Can I extend the range of my Time Capsule with an Airport Express?

I have read on Apple's description of the Airport Express that it is possible to extend the range of an existing network. I have the OLDER version of the Time Capsule (it is still wireless-N but it can only broadcast EITHER 2.4 or 5 gHZ at a given time) that does not have the simultaneous broadcasting. Can I still use the Airport Express to extend the range of my Time Capsule network?

i think you have the same concern as mine....
would the express extend the n or g networks? i am pretty sure it cant dual broadcast.....
my guess is that it would extend the n network by default, but if an iphone hooks up to the part of the network that the express is covering, it will probably slow down to a g speed.
i am one of those that suffer from my existing airport extreme and express slowing down when i turn on my ipod touch or iphone! the whole network slows down to the lowest common denominator.
by getting the new time capsule (or the new airport extreme), i will be fine in the part of the house that is being served by the new machines, but i am expecting the network to slow down where the express is in incharge!
this is all in preparation to buy a new TC...... is my understanding correct?

A universal may work but reliability tends to be poor..
You are much better using another airport .. extreme or express.. even a second hand older one.
Or do not use wireless bridge or repeater.. simply run ethernet or use EOP adapters to a second WAP run independently of the main router.. it is far more reliable and far faster solution .. wireless bridge/repeater will halve your wireless speed.

  • Can I link up one time capsule with two airport express, Can I link up one time capsule with two airport express

Hi, I would like to know whether I can link up one time capsule with two airport express. The result why is that I would like to put one time capsule at first floor, two airport express at 2nd floor and 3rd floor. All these three share one network. Please advise. Thanks.

There are several ways to conenct them. We need to know what it is you want to accomplish first. Do you want better Wi-Fi coverage on the second and third floors or do you want to stream music to the xpresses?

  • Time Capsule with (2) AirPort Express connection problem

I have (1) Airport Time Capsule with (1) AirPort Express connected. I'm trying to connect another Airport Express but only get a yellow light on the 2nd Express. If I connect it with a ethernet cable I get a green light. How do I connect a 2nd Express?

The 2nd Express needs to be about the same distance from the Time Capsule as the 1st Express....and....it cannot be closer to the 2nd Express than it is to the Time Capsule.
The reason for this is that the Express will pick up the strongest signal and you want the Express to pick up the Time Capsule signal to be able to extend it.
Then, start over as LaPastenague instructs on the 2nd Express and configure it again.

  • Extending the range of my Time Capsule N Network

Not sure whether I should post this here or on the TC forum but...my TC is set to provide a wireless N only network at 5ghz but the range is not long enough to reach all parts of my house.
A google search didn't seem to show any range extenders for wireless N networks.
Does anyone know if I can use either an airport extreme base station or an airport express base station as a range extender?
I know I can use either as an access point but that means that data will only get to the base station at max 200mbps (I have a powerline network with a max speed of 200mbps) whereas I know my macbook is connecting to the TC at 270mbps which is why I'd really like to achieve this with a range extender.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Anthony

Yes, you can use either the 802.11n AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express base stations to wirelessly extend your Time Capsule's wireless network.

If you were able to access the AX using the AirPort Utility but your PC is still not able to connect. I would try performing a "factory default" reset on the AX to see if that helps before going to the store. This type of reset will put the AX back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration which would broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. If your PC still cannot "see" or connect to this network, then a visit to the store would be in order.

  • How can I extend the range of my chart?

I've asked this question before on here, and found that shift-clicking for more cells has usually worked, but I have now run into a new problem...
My chart used to cover the range B5:P50. However, since moving a column it now only covers the cell range H5:P50. My chart is on a separate sheet. Usually if I want to add more to the range it will be downwards, so I just click on the chart, then click on the Main Sheet and shift-click to add more cells. Unfortunately, because the range I want is to the left of the highlighted area this time, I can't use shift-click.
How can I extend the range of my chart so it includes cells to the left of the currently selected range? In Excel I'd be able to just type the range in a box somewhere, rather than all this GUI-based clicking and dragging which is actually more difficult! Is there somewhere I can just type the range in that I want?
    Thanks!

"I want to add some series that are missing from the chart. How do I do that?"
Here's a two step process to do that:
Select the chart to show the the data selection on the associated chart.
Click in the leftmost column of the data, and drag left to change (move) the selection (blue arrow) for the result below:
Grab the control handle (small circle) at the bottom right corner of the selection, and drag  right, as indicated by the blue arrow.
    Result shown below.
Reassign colours and do other formatting as desired.
    Regards,
    Barry

You can't. It's not your network.

  • My mac can't find the volume" Data" on Time Capsule. Also Ican't find with the disk utility program the hard disk in the Time Capule; so I can't format the disk again. What can I do?

My Mac can't find the volume " Data" on Time Capsule, Also I can't find with the disk-utility program the hard disk in the Time Capusule.
So I can't format the disk in the Time Capsule
Deconnevt and then connecting the power tp the Time Capsule gives also no solution.
    What can I do?
    Joe

I listed the commands.. that is how you manually mount the disk.. follow exactly the commands I gave you.
In finder use top menu, go, connect to server.
    Type in the following.
AFP://TCname or AFP://TCIpaddress (obviously you replace with the actual name or the actual IP address).
    If that fails..
    try
    SMB://TCname
    Here is the screenshot.
tardis4 being the name of my TC.
It should then ask you for your credentials.
And it should remember them in the keychain and be able to then get TM to connect.

    What info would that be??
If you mean how to recover TM back to a computer.. see Pondini Q14-17

If that isn't it .. we do not know what.. "the info" you are talking about.

  • How can I set up a wi-fi network, using one time capsule and two airport express

how can I set up a wi-fi network, using one time capsule and two airport express ?
The time capsule is near the Mac. ok
The first Airport is on the corridor, ok, works well and the App on the iPad signals so, ok
But when I plug the next Airport on another room nearby nothing happens, and signals disconected ....
is the signal so weak that is not able to go to ono room to the other ?

Well, even if you have the first express set up to extend the network, the second express can only extend from the TimeCapsule.
Maybe you got walls of sheetrook in the way, or kitchen/bathroom tiles, etc, dampening the signal rapidly.

  • What is the maximum distance between a time capsule and an airport express?

What is the maximum distance between a time capsule and an airport express?

You can only "extend" the signal one time, so you need to have the AirPort Express located approximately 1/2 to 2/3 of the distance from the Time Capsule to the area that needs more wireless coverage.
I doubt that this will help much since you have a very challenging setup. Wireless is really only for "same room" or "nearby rooms" around the corner.
To do this correctly you will need to use an Ethernet cable connection from the Time Capsule to the AirPort Express, which could then be located close to the xBox.
If it is not possible to run the Ethernet cable, you might look at a pair of Ethernet powerline adapters to send a "psuedo" Ethernet signal over the AC wiring in your home.
This will not be anywhere near the performance of a regular Ethernet cable, but it will likely be much better than wireless.
Since Ethernet over powerline (EOP) is somewhat unpredictable, you would want to have a very clear understanding of the store's return policy in case things don't work out as hoped.  Any computer / electronics superstore will have a selection of powerline adapters to choose from.

  • I have a "n" time capsule and "g" airport express

Hi, I'm trying to extend the range of my Airport Time Capsule (1st generation "n").  I have a "g" Airport Express and I've been trying to set it up as a remote base station (or do I mean "relay"?) to strengthen the signal in a distant room.  It's not working!  Is the problem that you can't use a "g" express with an "n" Time Capsule???  Do I need to buy an "n" Express, or is there something I'm doing wrong?

I'd suggest reading the Designing Airport Networks manual. There is a section on setting up a WDS with a Time Capsule and an Airport Express.
