Is there a way to extract particular information about stuff like contacts, notes or reminders from a backup in iTunes?

Hi,
I am interested in extracting various pieces of information from strings (which were originally email bodies). For example email addresses (that are in the body of the email not the "from" field), phone numbers (which could have spaces between, international formats/conventions, ie not all numbers), profession (to match against a list I have), etc etc.
I am expecting that I would need to use Regex to find emails and phone numbers, and maybe tokenizing the string to match against my list of professions.
So I am more interested in some high level suggestions of how I should go about this.
In most cases, the source of the emails will be from 3 known sources. So in these case I will have a pretty good idea of the format/template that the response's will follow ( ie ".... name is XXXX XXXX ....." ) . This would then make extracting the useful information much easier. However, I need to allow for emails from unknown sources where nothing would be known about the format of the email.
Any help/suggestions/info would be appreciated.

Re: function object; You tip about the function object sounds like a very good idea. I have been thinking about the best way to do this and this sounds like a good way to do it.
Re: Regex - I have not used Regex much but I am assuming it wont be hard to find or create Regex expressions to find phone numbers and email addresses. Although as you say, names could be hard. Although in this case I will just have to rely on locations in known templates.

Any way to extract iMessage information from encrypted iTunes backup?

I have an encrypted backup, from which I'd like to extract a single iMessage thread (which dates back some 2 years, many attachements there that I'd like to be saved). Any way to do it? I have tried likes of Aiseesoft (yes even the full version) but it won't accept it due to encryption. Is there a way to delete the encryption?I know the password for it, can't unlock it anywhere. Is it possible if I roll back to iTunes 8-9? IIRC you could choose there whether to encrypt it or not.

No, it's simply not possible to crack the encryption or turn it off short of entering the encryption passcode during the restore process.

On your computer's iTunes you should be able to edit the payment info on that account by going into the Store > View Account menu option and logging into the account, and on the account's details page there should be a payment link. If you are doing it on an iOS device (iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch) then tap on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and select 'View Apple ID' on the popup - that should also give you a payments link on the account's page.

First of all, PostScript is not a "text" file. It can and often does contain binary data. Since PostScript streams often contain nested procedures, unless you process the procedure definitions and can "execute" them, you cannot simply "scan" a file to get what you want. No, Apple cannot locate your iPod for you. If you didn't have Find My iPod set up before you lost the iPod, there's no way to trace it.

Hey,
I think you will find that you have to have a debit/credit card stored on yur account regardless of whether your have iTunes Credit or want to purchase a free App. I don't know why, I assume its for ID verification or is part of the terms and conditions. I occasionally have to re-verify my credit card info even when just trying to run Update on one of my Apps or like I said downloading a free App.

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app. I am certain other applications also need this information. Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information. Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. you can do this by keeping the external hard drive connected and doing the following
-hold shift key down on computer while opening iTunes and a prompt will appear to choose a library
-select choose library, iTunes should bring up your explorer windows where you can search for the external HD
-after you find the external HD find the iTunes folder you just copied to it
-after opening the iTunes folder look for the file that says iTunes library.itl or if you can't see that extenstion just look for a document looking thing in the iTunes folder that shows up as a database file
-double click the database file and boom iTunes should load your library without having to copy it to the computer
PS: do make sure that if you are going to do it this way, make sure that the external HD is connected at all times, because if you don't then you will get exclamation marks next to your iTunes songs
double PS: if you are unsure how to find out if the iTunes library file is a database file just right click it and choose properties and under the type it should say database file
