Can I filter apps by excluding a category, i.e. games?

I'm not a gamer, but whenever I browse the app store(s), Mac and iPhone, I have to endure all the game apps that proliferate the screens.
Is there any way to filter out a category, ie -Games or <not> Games in the search criteria?
Thanks

Type in the category you want like recipes or entertainment in the search field but no guarantees you won't see some games.
You can provide feedback to Apple with a suggestion for just this issue.

    Hi flegno,
    Depending on which version that Firefox is on, currently in the Simulator is looks like there is only a way to pin the apps that result in a searched category. Searching for people in contacts who have a particular app installed does not seem to be an option? However I cannot know for sure.
    Can you give another example on what you are looking for everything.me to do?

  • How can I filter alerts shown in the Server app?

    In the time I've been running OS X Mavericks Server, the only alert to come up in the Server app's Alerts pane is "Virus detected in inbound email". That's about as surprising as finding that water is wet, so I'd like not to see those alerts. I don't want to turn off the email filtering, I just want don't want to hear about this one kind of event.
    How can I filter the alerts in general or this one in particular?

    Hi ephraimephraim
    I dont know if you found a solutions, but I hit the same problem so here is what I worked out...
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Server/Mail/Config/amavisd
    In there you will find a file called amavisd.conf
    Make a backup copy of this just incase! Now open the file using TextWrangler (its free from here http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/download.html).
    Now scroll down to line 119 and it will look like this:
    #$virus_admin              = "[email protected]";  # notifications recip.
    #$spam_admin               = '[email protected]';
    #$spam_quarantine_to       = '[email protected]';
    #$banned_quarantine_to      = '[email protected]';
    #$virus_quarantine_to      = '[email protected]';
    What I waneted to do was stop the useless "Virus detected in inbound email" emails and just send a copy of the emails to one account that I could keep an eye on, so this is what I did.
    First deside on a alias to use, such as [email protected],
    Now you can insert that like this virus-admin\@$mydomain its relly is important to add the \@$mydomain this resolves up the top of the file so it should now look like this
    #$virus_admin              = "virus-admin\@$mydomain";  # notifications recip.
    #$spam_admin               = 'virus-admin\@$mydomain';
    #$spam_quarantine_to       = 'virus-admin\@$mydomain';
    #$banned_quarantine_to      = 'virus-admin\@$mydomain';
    #$virus_quarantine_to      = 'virus-admin\@$mydomain';
    now delete the # notifications recip. after the virus_admin to stop the Virus Notifications, then I deleted the # before the spam_quarantine_to, banned_quarantine_to, virus_quarantine_to  this "turns on" the line and then add # notifications recip. after them, so you should end up with
    #$virus_admin              = "virus-admin\@$mydomain";
    #$spam_admin               = "virus-admin\@$mydomain";
    $spam_quarantine_to       = "virus-admin\@$mydomain";  # notifications recip.
    $banned_quarantine_to      = "virus-admin\@$mydomain";  # notifications recip.
    $virus_quarantine_to      = "virus-admin\@$mydomain";  # notifications recip.
    Now just create a user on the server called virus-admin of add it as an alias using Workgroup Manger.
    Hope this helps

    Sorry, but I don't believe there is way that you can.  You'll just have to make sure to read the minmium requirements of any App you are about to purchase to ensure that it is compatible and will run on your iPod Touch running iOS v3.1.3.

  • Searching for a type of App in a particular Category ?

    A couple of years ago I complained about the ridiculousty pathetic search facility on the iTunes Store.
    Now I need to search for a certain type of iPad Apps in a particular category, i.e. I want to filter the results.
    I seem to remember Apple brought out a "Power Search" (?) that was supposed to improve the search facility on the store then, but I can't seem to find it now, and I'm not at all certain that it was much of an improvement then anyway !
    Apart from just typing hit and miss words into the little search box, is there any expanded or advanced search facilty on the store that I have missed ?

    Hi Bobsax,
    Looking at other posts over the last couple of years there have been several about the pathetic Search facility, and it seems that the "Power Search" facility just disappeared along the way !!!!
    Presumably it was there in one version of iTunes and not the next ?
    I can't understand Apple's attitude towards this lack of a decent Search. It not as if they don't actively update iTunes.....there seem to be updates at least once a month !
    Being able to filter your Search to a particular category would help.
    It's as if Apple doesn't want you to find what you are looking for ?
    If Apple thinks the existing "Search" is good enough for us to find anything in the iTunes Store, maybe they can make a video tutorial showing us dumb mortals it's hidden magic ?

  • Can't install app even though iOS ver is OK

    My wife's workplace gave her an iPad for attending a class, so she gave me her iPod Touch (second generation, 8GB), and iPod Video (5.5g, 30GB). These are my first Apple products. I am a disabled old ****, but in an earlier life I was a somewhat prominent Windows author (software dev/book/magazine).
    I am trying to set up these very nice little devices, but running into some snags. Right now the main roadblock is an app I am trying to install (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/official-drudge-report-free/id375614185?mt=8) -- it goes through the initial steps, places an icon on the screen, but then it pops up a box telling me that it needs iOS 4.2 or higher. When I look at the About page on the iPod, it tells me the version is 4.2.1 (which I gather is the highest version that this model can accept?)
    Can anyone help me figure out if there is any way around this apparently irrational conflict?
    BTW, I was also trying to find documentation for this machine, but I cannot find anything available. There are manuals for earlier iOS versions, later iOS versions, but nothing for THIS version. Likewise, I can't find any manual for the Second Generation iPod Touch. If there is any way to find the relevant links, I'd really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.
    FWIW, the device is able to access the Internet without problems. I have not yet plugged it into my computer -- I need to download Itunes (a nontrivial affair, since we are probably the last people in the country to be stuck with dialup modem access; we live in an uber-rural area where there just isn't anything else; my wife has decent connectivity at her workplace for her Mac laptop, but out here, it's misery). I've been using the iPod via the in-home WiFi that I set up (loads of fun making it work with a dialup modem system, argh). In any case, the device CAN access the Inet, so at least one variable is nailed down.

    The app liny you provided says:
    Compatibility: Requires iOS 4.3 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
    A 2G can only go as high at 4.2.1
    You might be able to get that app and some othr aps by:
    Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
    App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
    App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
    You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
    Also:
    To more easily find compatible apps:
    iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
    Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.

  • Can't download apps on my Ipod touch 1st gen

    I have an Ipod touch 1st generation, and I've updated it as far as i can, but when I try to download anything on appstore it says that I need iOS 6.0 to download any program... This kinda means that I can't use Spotify or anything that I want to do with my ipod. Is there anything I can do to make it work? idk what to do.

  • Since Apple already has a SMS/MMS app for the iPhone, which can be used over WiFi, can the same app be installed on the iPad 2?

    I have an iPhone 3GS, and realized I do most of my SMS/MMS messaging at home, when connected to my WiFi. Then I began to think, if I'm using the messaging app over WiFi, can the SAME app (which, personally I like much better than the third party apps) be installed on the iPad 2 (which I'm still waiting from back order)?

    Incorrect.
    SMS/MMS is exchanged over the same network as calls.
    "Dumb" phones or phones not in the smart category that don't have internet access in any shape, form, or fashion can exchange SMS/MMS.
    Since SMS/MMS (a poor man's email with cell phones since it is very limited) is a cash cow for carriers and very profitable, why wouldn't cell phone carriers be interested in including SMS/MMS as an additional option (and of course at an additional expense) with a data plan only for the iPad? They certainly are interested in it but they can't since SMS/MMS is exchanged over the same network as calls.
    Get me the IPAD SMS app
    Take your whining someplace else. The self-entitlement displayed here by some is laughable.

  • How can i get apps with out using credit card info because i do not have a card ?

    how can i get apps with out using credit card info because i do not have a card ?

    Yo Chris. I've been following your answers to different threads and quite frankly, you're very keen in answering everybody regarding this stupidity that Apple has brought upon its customers. Kudos to you. But the problem is, most of the time, in some devices, your solution doesn't work because the NONE option is not there. The same goes for me.
    Meanwhile, I found a temporary workaround for the iPhone 4s, iPad 2 and iPod Touch 4th Gen.
    Register a free Apple ID from the iCloud Settings.
    Go to Settings>iCloud>Account>Tap Payment Information on the Storage Plan Category.
    Fill in the other boxes and choose "None" on Credit Card Information.
    That's it! Hope I helped those who still couldn't find the "None" Option.
    Must be running IOS 5.0.1 though, else there would be no iCloud.

  • Can a demonstration App for a make believe business be placed in App Store?

    Can a demonstration App for a make believe business be placed in App Store as an App Dev sales tool, or likely to not go through?  I am experienced launching real Apps but not in this new category of business interest.  Let’s say hypothetically I want to sell DPS Apps to small restaurants who want to share menus, atmosphere photos, etc. As a demonstration tool, can I make up a restaurant name, use royalty free restaurant stock and have  a related demo App as a client sales tool and expect that to make it into the Apps Store?  If not, any suggestions other than Adobe Content viewer alone to have a demo tool that clients can see working like a native App to help me get started?

    I haven't tried it but my guess is that full on dummy app would probably have problems getting through the review process.
    What you could try is building an app for your business, and within the app having a section that is devoted to the dummy app, showing off the functionality you offer.
    I could see that still having a few potential problems, but it seems like it would be a lot more likely to get through the review process.

  • Can't download apps with ios 4.2.1

    I have an Ipod touch 8gb which I purchased in early 2010.  The software won't update past ios 4.2.1 which I understand is the newest software I can get on this Ipod.  My question is are there any apps that are "kid friendly" which will run using this version of software? Every app I've tried to download won't because the software version isn't high enough.  This Ipod is seeming to be useless so I'm hoping I'm doing something wrong. Please help.
