    Hi williehunt,
       Yes that is possible.
You will have to connect the card  to this port "PCI Express x1 Ver 2.0*" on your computer.
Make sure the card you'll get has this interface so it will fit and communicate properly on your computer
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers!!

  • Firewire card or adapter for g7 1237dx

I have a G7-1237dx. Can I get a firewire card or adapter to allow me to run pro tools? Need a 6pin firewire solution.
    thanks
    Steve

If the "dual mirror" Power Mac G4 is the model immediately before the last one with FireWire 800, then it has FireWire 400. You need an cable like this one with FireWire 400 (6-pin) on one end and FireWire 800 (9-pin) on the other end
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/1394B96036/
Will also be moving data from a Lacie d2 external hard drive to the imac
Again, it depends on the type of connector it has. If it has FireWire 400, then that same cable will work. If it has FireWire 800, the you need a regular FireWire 800 cable with a 9-pin connector at both ends.

  • Firewire Card for H8-1256s desktop

Hello - I want to download videos from my camcorder and learned that my HP H8-1256s desktop does not have an IEEE 1394 firewire port. I was told I need a standard IEEE-1394 OHCI compliant firewire card. I have a couple of expansion slots available. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit. Can I install a firewire card? Which one should I buy and is it pretty simple? Thanks for your advice.

Be careful to pick a card that does not require a separate power connection for 12V.  I had gotten the Rosewill card that needs that and it would not work without getting some adapter cables to let me connect a spare hard drive power connector to the old style molex connector on the Rosewill card.  Rather than do that, I just got a different 1394 card that was able to pull 12V from the PCI bus cardslot.  The adapter cards are cheap.  I also have a thread down below where I routed the 1394 connection to my front panel for a very clean and professional looking installation.  That is probably more work than necessary, but my machine was new and I wasn't ready to live with plugging it in from the back.
The Rosewill RC-504 linked above is the one that needs MOLEX power connections to work.  The one I got that worked like a charm was this one:

  • Can't load masque card games on my laptop

why can't I load masque card game to my laptop. it said pro mac not supported

This says the game supports Mac OS 8.1, so I suspect it's a Classic app, which would require a Classic environment, which hasn't been supported by Apple since OS 10.5 or on any Intel Macs.

  • G3 B & W Graphics cards - can I fit ADC/DVI?

    Ey up all,
Have just been given a trusted but old G3 350 B&W by my boss (for free!!) so I thought it would make a nice machine to use as a basic Photoshop/scanning machine for the missus to do her artwork on.
It's got 1gb of RAM and a newish 60GB Seagate 7200rpm HD so has all the bits I need. However, the graphics card is the original ATI 16mb with a VGA connector. Can I actually fit a newer card from a vendor like ATI that carries ADC or DVI, so I can use something like the classic 17" Apple LCD Studio Display (M7649)? There are loads of these displays floating about on ebay for a good price. If I can do this, it means I don't have to go for one of the matching blueberry CRT displays that take up a bit too much room on a desk.
I know I could go for a third-party TFT from the likes of Dell or ACER but being a typical machead, I like to keep it Apple all the way!!
Any suggestions are more than welcome and if you can put me on the right track price-wise, that'll be great.
    Pat

Unless you really want an ADC-based Apple LCD Display, I'd go for an LCD display that uses a VGA or DVI port. There are plenty of them available today, and new ones are not extremely expensive. The ADC connection provides the video signal and power to the display. Using an adapter to connect the Apple display's ADC connector to a DVI port doesn't provide the necessary power for the display. The B&W G3 has a dedicated 66 MHz PCI slot for a graphics card, but doesn't have a power supply with a lot of output (by today's standards). If you were to install a newer Mac-compatible Radeon with a DVI port to use an ADC display, you'd need Apple's adapter, to power the display. If you want to use a widescreen display, be sure that the display card supports its optimal resolution at the 16:9 aspect ratio. The original Radeon Mac Edition and Radeon 7000 Mac Edition featured VGA and DVI ports, as well as 32 MBs of DDR memory. These cards can be purchased secondhand for little now, although the original Radeon Mac Edition is more scarce. There are newer Radeon cards for Macs, like the 9200, but PCI versions are not as abundant as their AGP counterparts.

  • Can a pcie-1x sound card fit into the third pcie-8x slot of P7N Platinium ?

can a pcie-x1 sound card fit into the third pcie-x8 slot of P7N Platinium (indicated by the green arrow in the pic below) ?
what is the intended usage or practical usage for that 3rd slot?
Also, kindly enquire if 3 ways SLI really feasible and any driver is released and tested to support it?
    My rig specification are as follow: 1)msi p7n sli platinium, 2)intel e8400 stock cooler, 3) 2x 2GB Crucial Ballistix  DDR2 800, 4)2x msi 8800gt oc 512mb  5) acbel M8 750 6) Samsung 160gb hdd 7) Asus DRW.
thank you. i do like this motherboard, very nice layout and the circu-pipe in particular. lack of sata ports has been compensated by purchasing a 4 sata ports controller card. if the third pcie x8 is a pcie x1 slot, that will be even better.

    Yes you can
great to hear that. like that, i can consider buying the Asustek Xonar D2X Audio Card PCI-E as the green indicated pcie x8 is my only unoccupied slot after using 2  gfxs (2 slots) and 1 sata controller pci card.
    thank for your prompt reply.
    cheers.

  • Can a G3 iBook airport card fit into my G4 17" iMac?

Just wondering if anyone know whether my old iBook airport card will fit into the G4 17" iMac.

Your iBook G3 uses the original 802.11b AirPort card.
Your 1 GHz iMac G4 requires the 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme card. Your iMac can not use the older card.

  • Can bad ram kill your firewire card

i recently installed bad ram in my eMac
it was a 512 module given to me by my boss, we use macs at work so i figured it was safe. it was the right speed for my mac and it seemed great!
well, I installed and everything was going awesome. Until all of my pictures dissipeared out of iPhoto. they were still on the HD but vanished from the program. so I ran the hardware test and bad ram. I replaced it with the old ram and everything was fine, until I tried to dump some footage into iMovie.
Now iMovie will not reconize my camera and i am scared as i use this program the most. could this ram have killed my firewire card?
    Please Help

It sounds to me as though your problem goes beyond bad RAM. While a faulty RAM module may cause issues, they are generally performance issues. Disappearing photos sounds like a hard disk (or other) problem. Did Apple Hardware Test uncover any other issues? If there was something wrong with your FireWire inputs, Hardware Test should indicate so.
Try deleting your iMove preferences file (User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist). Log out and back in again; open iMove and try to reconnect your camera. Also, check with your camera's manufacturer to be sure that there are no firmware or driver updates for your model.
Report back, and we can take it from there.

  • MSI 870-G45 Motherboard - Can it fit two MSI GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB Cards?

MSI 870-G45 Motherboard - Can it fit two MSI GeForce GTX 550 Ti Cyclone II 1GB Cards?
I'm planning to buy a MSI 870-G45 ATX AM3 Motherboard and two MSI GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB Cards, in order to run multiple monitors.
However my concern is that the cards might not fit into the motherboard.
So could someone please tell me if those two cards will fit into the motherboard?

It means that an x16 PCI-E video card will only get x4 lanes instead of x16 when used in that slot.

  • Can anyone help with a troublesome FireWire card reader

I have an Addonics firewire card reader to transfer image files to my Macs. It has never been predictable about mounting on the desktop when I insert a card. I've used it with OS 10.2, 10.3 and now 10.4.8. I have the OS set to open Photo Mechanic when I insert a card, but most times, nothing happens. After trying various daisy-chain connections, I have the reader connected directly to the computer, but this hasn't helped.
Usually, I have to disconnect the cable, then re-connect; I usually do this at the reader end, to save wear and tear on the computer port. Sometimes multiple attempts are necessary, but in the end, this procedure gets results better than anything else. I have tried a different cable, known to be good, with no improvement.
I have a little utility called Spindown HD, which shows what's attached, and in fact, the reader shows up as connected, but sleeping. So, perhaps this is a "wake-from-sleep" problem instead.
By the way, Addonics "support" was useless. Their site states that they offer no support on products over two years old. An email inquiry brought the response that they could do nothing to help. On service quality grounds alone, I have bought my last Addonics product.
Do others have problems with getting FW readers to respond? This is driving me crazy, and wearing out ports or connectors.

Here is the "Maintenance & Service Guide" for the computer.  On P.2 it shows in the right-hand column that there are 3 PCI Express x1 slots on the motherboard.  Here is a Firewire card that should work for you.
You could also check in HP PartSurfer to see if HP has a card that will work.

  • Best Firewire card for PC?

Hi Folks. What would all of you suggest as the best PCI Firewire card out there for a PC? Mine only has one port working and I need at the very least 2. So, I will be ordering one pretty soon.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    VG

To add a resource to this thread: http://www.firewiredirect.com/store/home.php
I've bought many cards from this source (all sorts of configurations), and they have been a pleasure to deal with. Their prices seem fair, but I usually shop for product specs. and good service, before price.
They offer some configurations, that I do not see from most card mfgrs. and several of these have fit my particular needs perfectly. Ease of ordering in nice, shipping always quick, but I've never had any problems, so I do not know about returns - would guess that they are good, but just have never had to return anything.
I also recommend the FW-800 connections, as does Chuck. If one's BIOS can work with IEEE-1394b, and so can one's peripherals, it is a really fast connection.
One comment on multiple devices on one FW connection: I have had great luck piggybacking (both FW-800 & 400) for HDDs. Though I have never experienced a problem, I do not do this for any camera, A->D converter, or even external DVD burners. OK, I did piggyback an external burner, with no problems once, or twice, but do not do this on a regular basis.
Luckily my workstation has 4 separate FW busses on the MoBo and I use one of the FW-800 cards (from above source) for those 1394b connections. Never a complaint on any from a wide array of peripherals.
