  • Can I replace a failed hard drive on mid 2009 MacBook Pro with 1tb ssd +hdd?

    Any help?

    You might be able to.
Check either Macsales.com or iFixit.com for guides of how to add a second drive to your 2009 MBP.
I know that the SSD needs to be placed in current HDD bay and the HDD needs to be placed in the optical drive bay. So you would need a dual drive kit from either of the places mentioned above.

  • How can I connect my existing firewire drives to the "new" Macbook pro

I'm thinking about getting a new Macbook Pro, to take on the road.
I already have four external drives with firewire and USB 2.0 ports.
After I looked at the new machine I noticed it only had USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports.
I dont see any Firewire to Thunderbolt technology out there nor do I see any  USB3.0 to anything technology. How can I connect my drives to the new system?

You can use the USB3 connections for USB2.  That's downward compatible.  Just runs at USB2 speed.
Just this week apple announced a couple of TB adapters, TB-to-ethernet and TB-to-firewire.  But the FW adapter is not at the apple store as yet (at least at the time I am posting this).

  • Can I put a 7200 rpm drive in a 13" MacBook Pro?

I'd like to upgrade my daughter's 13" MacBook Pro after she buys it to a 500GB 7,200 rpm hard drive. Apple only offers a 5,400 rpm drive as an upgrade. Any technical issues keeping me from going to a faster drive? Is the drive in a new 13" MacBook Pro easily accessible for swapping out? Best to ask before I buy.
    Thanks.

Yes, you can put a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 in there. It's considered a user-replaceable item, and there are instructions in the manual.

Thanks very much for the advice. I trawled through the other answers on the site and it appears others had the same issue. I doubled the available space and the install went like clockwork... which is what one would norma;ly expect from Apple :-)
Maybe Apple should have a ' definitely read me first' notice before a download takes place with CLEAR instructions to have more than the 6GB they indicate ofr the Mountain Lion download

  • Can i install flash drive in mid-2009 macbook pro

I want to increase the storage on my MacBook pro - mid-2009. I use Final Cut so there are demands. Must I stay with a spinning drive or can I install a large flash drive? I big can I go? 2.26 ghz, 8 gigs ram, running latest Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
    Thanks

One option is to remove your DVD drive and install a second drive.  So you could have an SSD (flash drive) for speed and a traditional drive for volume.  This might be helpful:

  • When I try to import pictures of my daughter, what gets imported is about 50 pictures of world flags, then masks.  I can't import any pictures now.  I am on MacBook Pro.  I called Applecare and honestly got 'gee I don't know' for an answer.

I can't import pictures into iPhoto.  (f I can right click and there is a choice to put in iPhoto that works fine) .  No matter what happens, even when I download them first, all that imports is a mass of pictures of flags and masks, and they are the only things that are imported, no matter what picture I try to import into my librarly.  Can anyone help me with this?  I live in a small down 5 hours from an apple store so I can't just take it in and get somene to look at it.
I am on a Macbook Pro.  I called AppleCare and all i got was 'gee, I don't know'.  Everything was fine until about 3 weeks ago

Elaine.  What are you trying to import from?  Are you inserting a camera memory card in the slot on the side of your mac? Are you connecting your camera to the mac through a USB cable? It sounds like you can see your pictures, where do you see them, on the memory card that you open on your desktop, or are you using software that came with your camera?

  • Where can i find EFI firmware 1.6 for 17" 2009 Macbook pro

Hi I'm havng freezing beechball issues with my Crucial M4 SSD and my 2009 17" MacBook Pro and have read that downgrading the EFI firmware from 1.7 to 1.6 can solve the freezes can anyone point me to where i can get this as the links I have found out there are only compatible with the 13" and 15"
    Thanks for your help

    Where did you read that?
Everything Apple says is the firmware can only be upgraded and not downgraded.
Apple is only going to supply the lastest firmware updates here:

  • Vertex 3 SSD drive painfully slow on 2009 Macbook Pro - Help!!

    Hi
I have just installed an OCZ Vertex 3 SSd drive into my 2009 Macbook Pro 2.4ghz, revision 5,2 with 4gb ram.
I made sure the SSD has the latest firmware and did a clean install of Snow Leopars which I then updated to be 10.6.8
The new OS boots fine when the SSD is plugged in via USB.
When the SSD is plugged in via the internal SATA cable it takes about 30 minutes to boot and then runs so slow it is unusable.
I have reset the P-RAM and the SMC.
When you boot from the original os on the original drive via USB the internal SSD mounts on the desktop but takes ages to do so and tryig to view any folders on it takes forever too.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? As far as I know SATA 3 drives are backward compatible with SATA 2 so there should not be an issue.
The fact that the drive mounts and boots eventually leads me to think something must be throttling the SATA connection.
Any suggestions on what to do next?
    Thanks
    D

Looks like I made a mistake - it is a 5,2 model which puts it as a 2008 model.
EFI firmware is up to date - version 1.7
I am only getting a Negotiated Link Speek of 1.5 gigabits instead of a possible 3 gigabits
Since finding it is a 2008 I have read loads of forum posts about SSD problems with this model.
Any advice still appreciated before I decide to sell the drive and take a loss on it.

  • My MacPro says the startup disk is too full.  I have 4 internal hard drives that have 2T each so there is plenty of space, but all start up programs, libraries, iTunes and application folder are on the '1st' hard drive. Can I move any to 2nd drive?

Your system will likely fit just fine on a small fast 250GB SSD
What you have is lots of stuff that should not be on the boot drive, data and graphics or media files and libraries that should be moved to another drive.
If you are getting a message like this, STOP, off load files, make room, and make sure to have 15% free or more.
Do not try to move anything from system and its library and sub folders. Move your home user account and just leave the essential home library but move all the rest.
A full drive can have trouble finding free space segments and writing out updates to files and to the directory. And loss of directory means loss of where files are located and their segments.
