Can I flip entire document including images / text to portrait?

Hello,
I have a 500+ page document that I need to upload to an on-demand publishing site. The book in it's final version will be 8.5" x 11" LANDSCAPE. This is how I have the book layed out on indesign. However, the publishing site only has an option for 8.5" x 11" PORTRAIT, thus there is no way for me to upload it in it's current state. I would like to avoid rotating the entire document page by page in a new indesign file (I could export each page as an xml and then place each one individually). Is there a way that I can create a PDF of this file in PORTRAIT, just for uploading the the site? The PDF would appear to be sideways, but for our purposes once we got the physical book it wouldn't make any difference. Thanks for any replies.

Your book in landscape will be bound on the 8.5 inch short side.
However, if the ONLY option is Portrait, it seems they will bind it on the 11 inch long side, which is probably not what you want.
You can't assume they will realize your book is different and bind accordingly. Their system may just be set up to only bind the tall side.
You need to contact this on-demand publishing site before you do anything else. Explain what you have and what you expect.
There are issues that need to be clarified and clearly stated before you order. Also, the price may change.
Good Luck

  • How can I stop Exchange from including previous text in message replies?

This is an issue because many people use "reply to" from their iPhone and the previous messages are included at the bottom of the message. But they are not aware of the earlier messages. Now and again, especially when we have several ".cc" persons, a confidential discussion is messaged out to people who do not need to have it. In Outlook Exchange on my PC, I have this turned off. This means that when I want to include the original message, I select and copy it, then paste it at the bottom of the new message. That is much more secure.
In Nokia Symbian it was possible to leave out the original message. Can the iPhone do this?
    Many Thanks for your help.

There is no setting for this with the iPhone's Mail app - to include or not include the recieved message when replying to the message. The recieved message is included by default.

  • Resizing document (including locked & hidden objects)

Is there an Illustrator equivalent of the Photoshop Image Size command? I want to globally scale my entire document (including the artboard). But I also want to make sure any hidden or locked objects/layers are included.

Is there maybe a script for this?

  • Pages works with all other docs, except the one I need to work on.  From my downloads folder I can preview the entire file, however whenever I try to open it, i get the "opening" pane filled to ~90% and then the SBBOD.  Only file it does this on...help??

From my downloads folder it recognizes the file as a Pages document, I can preview the entire document, but I try to open the file in multiple ways (from right click, to open from preview, from inside pages) and it refuses to open.  The "opening" prompt comes up, fills ~90% and then I eventually get the SBBOD.  It will fail out if given long enough to think it through or i need to force quit.

Pages: downloaded from App store when i purchased my mac mini last fall. fresh update.

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • HELP!  I saved a document.  Copied the document.  Went to delete some extra characters.  Accidentally deleted the entire document.  Now I can't find my document.  When I open the saved document, the page is blank.  Does Pages save copied text anywhere?

I saved a document.  Copied the document.  Went to delete some extra characters and accidentally deleted the text of the entire document.  I did not save a blank page.  I cannot recover the lost text.  Please Help.  I'm NEW to Pages.

    Hi Jan,
Copied text (or other copied material) is on the Clipboard, but only until you copy something else or log out of your account. If you act before doing another copy, you can paste the copied material back into the document. If you don't act right away, you may still have a path back.
One of the most useful keystroke combinations on the Mac is the "Oops! key," as a friend of mine once named it. That's command-Z, also known as "Undo". In some applications it will let you undo only a single step, but in others, including Pages, you can do repeated undos, so it's not quite so essential that you act immediately on making an error. Undo, done via the Oops! key, or via the Edit menu takes you back one change at a time. You can't skip any steps, so to get back to the state before the accidental deletion, you'll have to undo any work you've done since then. The memory of what to Undo disappears when you close the document or quit the application.
At that point you're at the mercy of your backup plan. If you've had Time Machine running, you'll be able to enter Time Machine and go back to an earlier, saved version of the file.
All these are in addition to the steps Ian suggested above.
    Regards,
    Barry
PS: Best piece of advice I can give a new Pages user (beyond Backup early and often) is to download and read through the first few chapters of the Pages '09 User Guide, available through the Help menu in Pages '09. Mostly pretty easy reading, and will get you through the basics without much trouble.

I need to make a copy of an entire email, including the header w/the sender's info and time, etc. to insert into a letter, etc. How can I do this w/out cutting and pasting   the header separately from the text. I know there is a way besides a screen shot but I've spend hours trying to find it.

For the particularly persnickety types you might want to expose the full headers in the email message as well.  It's easy enough to do, from mail's 'menu' select "view"; then "message"; then all headers.
Another option you could use is a screen capture using Grab.
Activate Grab, then shift + command + w (for a window screen shot).  Then confirm the window selection and click the mail message.

the cursor includes a text box from a previous image or link when the cursor is positioned on the side of the page. it will mainly happen when i hit "back" from the page i was on. i click and it goes away but only to return again on the next launched page. i also keep several tabs open and it will carry over to any one of them i go to. how do i get rid of this?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== when i upgraded to most recent version 3.6.8

A number of extensions can cause that problem, you'll need to do a little troubleshooting to find out which extension is causing that to happen for you.

  • Is there a way to include a text document within the DVD?

I am using Encore CS5. I do a DVD series. For the latest installment, I have been asked to include a 17 page document which the user could print from their computer or view from their TV, and which the main menu of the DVD would link to.
Is this possible? I know I can include a text document on the disk,as part of DVD Rom materials, but I don't know if I can link to that via my DVD menu. Also, I don't think that would be viewable on a TV.
On the other hand, I could include stills of the document (as a slideshow perhaps?) on the DVD and link to that ection via my main menu, but then it wouldn't really be printable from computer, like a text document would be, right?
Anyone have any advice or anyone faced a similar challenge with including text materials as a menu option within a video DVD? (also to note, these are SD DVDs we are making, not blu ray)

The printable option is the ROM. Include a menu in the DVD that explains this.
You are correct, this can't be viewed on the computer. And yes, you can use a slideshow. Except that the text will be too tiny. The text will have to be formatted so that it is presented in reasonable chunks.
Do a short sample, burn, and test it on both a upscaling HD as well as a traditional set.

  • How do I get the default zooming to not include images or how can I resize everything but actual images?

I have a problem with the default zooming in firefox Using default layout.css.devPixelsPerPx=-1 or layout.css.devPixelsPerPx=1.5 makes all UI and webpage text look nice and readable, spacing is fine and everything. The only problem is that images are ALSO zoomed which is ridiculous. I guess I would like a way to scale everything BUT images. I have a hi-resolution monitor and think it's silly to have to zoom out every image on a web page just because I wanted text and the UI enlarged. I tried NoSquint using 65% for pages and 150% for text only, but that had the issue of making ONLY text scaled up and not spacing and other stuff (google searches looked even more silly using only 6 cm to the left, rows too close overwrote themselves etc.)

    That is not possible.
The layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref affects everything in Firefox, both the user interface and the browsing area.
'Full page zoom' affects all elements on web pages including images and 'zoom text only' affects the text and can cause issues with text overlapping or disappearing similar to setting a minimum font size because the containing element keeps the same dimensions.
You can't just exclude the images from zoom and have the containers expand automatically.

  • Entire document momentarily flickers white when editing/adding text

Using Adobe Illustrator I exported an Adobe PDF.    Back in Adobe Acrobat Pro -> content Editing ->   I select some existing text and  as soon as I type a single character, the entire document momentarily flickers white.   Afterwards, the character I entered is visible.   This happens each and every time I try to type.   If I try to type a full sense, the screen is basically strobing until I stop typing.
This also happens in Acrobat Acrobat Professional.
    I have Acrobat Pro 11.0.06
    thanks!

You really should update the source document in Illustrator and generate a new PDF. If you need to retain any links, fields, etc. that you added in Acrobat, you can replace the old pages with the new in Acrobat (Tools > Pages > Replace).

I need to convert PDF file to Word Document, so it can be edited. But the recognizing text options do not have the language that I need. How I can convert the file in the desired of me language?

The application Acrobat provides no language translation capability.
If you localize the language for OS, MS Office applications, Acrobat, etc to the desired language try again.
Alternative: transfer a copy of content into a web based translation service (Bing or Google provides a free service).
Transfer the output into a word processing program that is localized to the appropriate language.
    Do cleanup.

If you already have a PDF document, ExportPDF can help you with this task. https://www.acrobat.com/exportpdf/en/convert-pdf-to-word.html
On the other hand, if you have a physical document, you'll need to scan it into a PDF document first.
Depending on what you need to do you may require different tools & services, so please help us out with more details.

  • Does anyone know of an e-reader app for the iphone that has text to speech capability? I have a Kindle 3G that can read whole pdf documents and books but I cannot figure out how to do it on my iphone 4.

Does anyone know of an e-reader app for the iphone that has text to speech capability? I have a Kindle 3G that can read whole pdf documents and books but I cannot figure out how to do it on my iphone 4.
All of the apps I have found on the App store either do not have the text to speech capability or if they have it they will only read a page at a time or simply read the text you paste into their window. I really do not understand what is so difficult about having this feature as Kindle provides it--though Amazon does not make the feature available on its iPhone 4 app.
    Please help.

thanks. yes i am aware of the VoiceOver feature but it is NOT the solution to my problem. as you said, it is a solution to a different set of issues. i want the text to speech ability because i there are books i need to read but do not have the time to sit down and read them and have become used to listening to them read to me either by a professional human reader or with the text to speech software on the Kindle.
I think Apple makes the best audio devices but i am really disappointed in this inexplainable shortcoming. if apple can give us siri they ought to be able to design a nice little button that i can push to turn on text to speech while i am in a document, book, magazine or webpage. clearly it is possible as apple has added the "reader" button in safari to have web pages dropped into the reader format.
thanks for your suggestion though, it is what everyone suggests but it does not address the issue.

  • After placing a new text box in my document, typing new text, clicking away, then coming back to edit the text, I am unable to get my cursor to reappear within that text box. I can only select the box itself. I cannot select the text. Where is my cursor?

After placing a new text box in my document, typing new text, clicking away, then coming back to edit the text, I am unable to get my cursor to reappear within that text box. I can only select the box itself. I cannot select the text. Where is my cursor?

    Even simpler than that.
Clicking once in a text box selects it.
Clicking once in a selected text box places the insertion point in the box.
The clicks do not need to be close enough in time to be read as a double click.
The same behaviour applies to table cells in Pages and in Numbers.
