Can I force middle click to exclusively activate auto scrolling only?

I don't want the middle mouse button to do anything except auto scroll. I don't want it to paste, open new tabs/windows, or close tabs/windows ever no matter where i click. When trying to auto scroll over a link (ex. wallpaper galleries), firefox opens the link in a new window. As far as I can tell, I have all relevant settings and about:config options set correctly for the function i desire.

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type '''''about:config'''''.
If a warning screen comes up, press the '''''Be Careful''''' button.
This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run.
At the top of the screen is a search bar. Enter '''''mouse'''''
and press enter. At this point, '''DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ! ! !'''
Just look around and if you see something useful, ask about it.

You didn't mention anything about Cover Flow in your orignal posts, did you? I am neither content or not content using Column view. This has nothing to do with me! I was simply trying to help you by suggesting that Column view works.
By the way, I am not wrong. Column view resizes perfectly well when the vertical separator line is double clicked.

Why can't I middle click "Paste and go" to launch a new tab?

When right clicking the address bar to paste a link, the context menu gives you the option of "Paste and Go" but only allows you to left click. How do I get it so that I can middle click the the context menu so that it will load in a new tab, like normal middle clicking behavior?
Does Firefox have any plan to enable this feature? Its extremely annoying to have to open a new tab and click on it before being able to paste and go. I usually will just paste, then ALT+Enter to open a new tab but don't always have my keyboard handy while surfing the web from my couch.

Note that you can paste the text in the location bar and then middle-click the Go button to open the link in a new tab.

There is no filter feature available for fileUpload. You can't force the component to only show specific files.

Hi !!! I'm looking for the way to detect the middle click with AS3.
I know there is a MouseEvent.MIDDLE_CLICK, but it's only for AIR:

Here the solution was to use JS to detect the middle click and then to pass the control to Flash (Flex in that case).
But I'm looking for a native solution. I think if it was possible in AS2 it should be possible (and even better) in AS3!
Why Adobe is so skimpy with mouse clicks? (Right Click, Double Click, and of course Middle Click, always are a problem in Flash).
And I can't understand why you can use it only in AIR!

on my eeePC, middle click is achieved by clicking both buttons at once. not sure if something's needed in xorg.conf or a hal policy for this, it worked out of the box for my 900.

Ctrl-T opens a new, blank tab at the end of my tab list, which I like. In IE 11 middle-clicking on a link in a web page opens that new progeny tab next to the parent tab, rather than at the end of the list, and groups them if you have more than one parent-and-progeny tab groups. IE 11 goes so far as to assign tab title background colors to such groups (which isn't as important to me as the functionality). Tweaking Tab Mix Plus just resulted in modifying where Ctrl-T puts a blank tab. Is there a way to make my FF parent-progeny tabs work like IE 11?

If you use Tab Mix Plus then you need to check its settings where links are opened.

How can I turn off dashboard from middle click on magic mouse?

As the title says:
Whenever I have a gesture set up on my magic mouse to hit middle click, it automatically does the dashboard. This I don't want, and I cannot for the life of me work out how the **** to disable the dashboard from middle click.

I was getting the same problem, I have Jitouch installed, but that really wasn't the issue, it was a setting in the system preferences as sureshk mentioned. It took me a little bit to figure out where the setting is located in case someone else has the same issue.
System Preferences > Expose & Spaces (Snow Leopard & earlier) or Mission Control (Lion & later)
The keyboard and mouse shortcuts are at the bottom. My "Show Dashboard" was set for F12 and Middle Click

How can I force an app install in App Store, or otherwise get App Store in a consistent state?

I've recently reinstalled OS X Mountain Lion on a laptop (completely and thoroughly erased the partitions of the previous installation), and on this freshly created system, after I sign in to the App Store (to download previous purchases), the system behaves as if packages are already installed - which they are not!
Under the Purchases tab, packages (such as Xcode or other previous purchases) are showing with a greyed out "INSTALLED" button on the right. Other packages (which have not been installed) are showing with a (pressable) button of "UPDATE". (For example, iPhoto has a newer version in Mavericks; it seems always possible to click on UPDATE and be prompted to install the latest version for Mountain Lion -- even though that process can be infinitely repeated). But iPhoto (along with any other packages) has not been installed to the host yet. /Applications/iPhoto.app and any others are not showing at all on the system, but App Store still believes that they're installed already (preventing a real install, or pretending that an upgrade is an upgrade and not an install). There are some packages which DO say "INSTALL". Those are the ones that I have never installed before on the laptop. So it appears to be possible to still install some packages - but that's the set that I do not want to install. So for example, now I can't seem to install Xcode or iPhoto or any other previously purchased applications. It seems pretty clear that there are some bugs here. But I am concerned about the source of the association - how is OS X determining that THOSE packages are "installed already", but others are not? Is the upstream App Store server keeping track of machine ID to make this determination? I heard at one point that App Store uses Spotlight internally - is it somehow querying that? Finally I wanted to confirm that this is really a complete reinstall. I set /dev/zero to the first few sectors of the raw hard drive in order to ensure that I could make a few partiiton table, and when I then reinstalled the system, I chose a different partition arrangement. I have no other drives connected. So it's truly a reinstall of the OS from scratch, and at the moment I can't see a clear way to install apps! I also had killed the App Store agent running in the background, moved away App Store related files in ~/Library/Caches/ and started again. Yet I get the exact same response. This is concerning from a privacy perspective too. Suppose the App Store server is encoding the list of installed packages and associating it with the host and then perhaps I sell the laptop. Now the list of apps may be available to a new user of the laptop. But it may only show if the same Apple ID is used.
In any case, I'd like to know how I can best move past this issue, workaround it, and install packages. Can I force an app to install, even if it's believed to be installed already? Can I attempt to do an "uninstall"? Any suggestions about this would be greatly appreciated.

In firefox 3, when I middle clicked a link, it would open in a new tab for me to view later, but it wouldn't go directly to the tab; in firefox 4, it does. How do I get it to work like before?

E.g. if I was on google and middle clicked a search result, I would still be looking at google, but the page I opened would be loaded to the right side.

Google search and other websites have a user preference that can be set to open a search result in a new tab or a new window, for users who are logged in to their website.
Otherwise, when you don't have a 3-button mouse or a scroll pad with "middle-click" functionality, you can use '''{Ctrl + Click}''' to open a hyperlink in a new Tab.

New to the world of lenovo. I am trying to troubleshoot an issue where the middle mouse button randomly works and am trying to figure out if it is hardware or software related.
Some info
Hardware: Lenovo x230
OS: Ubuntu 12.04.2 (64bit)
Kernel: 3.5.0-23-generic #35~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 25 17:13:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Desktop environment: Cinnamon 1.6.7 (also tested with Unity)
What happens:
In terminal if I middle click I would expect it to paste, some times it could take two or more clicks
In firefox if I middle click on a link I would expect it to open in a new tab, some times it can take two or more clicks to work, frequently it will stop working after the first successful middle click
scrolling in firefox/terminal/any window with middle click and the pointer works consistently. I also have a logitech m570 wireless mouse which behaves as expected.
Has anyone experienced similar and know how to resolve. While I have it in the back of my mind that it's a hardware issue it does not make sense as the pointer+click consistently works so I assume it's software

If the printer does not recognize the door being opened you could fool the printer as follows: press copy and once the printer starts going through the motions of printing unplug the power. Once things have come to rest open the printer and manually move the carriage, then change the cartridge. Plug the printer back in and power it up, it may take a bit of time for the printer to initialize.

How do I get my hotmail to open in a new tab instead of a new window and I've tried the middle click/ctlr option.

MSN is my home page and when I click on the hotmail link in the top left hand corner of the page it always opens in a new window even if I press middle-click/ ctrl keys. The hotmail link is the only link that I have had this problem with thus far. Can you help me correct this problem?

Hotmail opens in a new window because the code or set of instructions on the MSN website tells Firefox to open Hotmail in a new window. I would suggest you right click on the Hotmail button and left click on "Open Link in New Tab". This will open a new tab in the current window.
