Can I force Photoshop CC to regenerate preview images?

I have a photoshop file that seems to have corrupted preview images.  When I look at the file in bridge I only see a photoshop icon.  I have tried the following solutions, all unsuccessfully:
    clearing the bridge thumbnail cache
saving the file as a copy in photoshop.
     restarting my system
Photoshop CC 64, Bridge CC 64, Windows 7 64bit
Preferences->File Saving Options-> Image Previews is Always Save
Any other suggestions?

This doesn't seem to solve the problem as the new file also does not show a preview image.
Puzzling indeed!
I did notice, however, that most metadata also appeared to be gone (bridge reported no color profile,
or pixel dimensions for example).  This suggested an alternative approach.  I opened the original .dng
file again and then copied the layers from the damaged .psd per this suggestion.  When saved, there was
a preview!  However, it was only a preview of the base conversion.  No matter what layers are visible when
the file is saved, the preview doesn't change.  Still not right.  I hesitate to continue to work with an obviously
corrupted file.

  • How can i find Photoshop to edit my own image?

How can I find Photoshop to edit my own image? I have seen a lot of learning videos,

I'm not sure I understand the question. Have you purchased and installed Photoshop, but don't know how to start it on your computer? Let us know what version of Photoshop you have and if you are usinga Mac or a Windows machine.
If you don't already have Photoshop, you can find it on the Adobe web site at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop.html

  • Can you change the size of the preview images on an Apple TV without changing video resolution?

I have a 32 inch LCD TV. My room is relatively large and I can't easily see the preview images or read the text on the TV across the room. Is it possible to change the size of preview images in the menu screens without increasing the resolution of the TV itself? I think this should be possible, but can't seem to find a way to do it.

No that's not something you can do on the Apple TV.
If you have any suggestions that you think might enhance the Apple TV you can send Apple your feedback here.

  • Is anyone else annoyed that you can't open a normal file with preview in CS6 on the Windows platform

Please, please , please restore the the ability of Photoshop to open with a preview on windows machines. That is; a single click on a file from within Photoshop gives a small preview image to tell you what it is you are opening.  This is crucial to professional photographers in the industry working quickly with lots of images as I do in the medical/scientific photography field.
Every other version of Photoshop has had this feature and I can tell you a lot of power users like myself are not using CS6 just because a single click doesn't preview what you are opening.  My company just spent $10,000 upgrading six machines and no-one is using CS6 for work - they are sticking with CS5.  CS6 is only good for 'playing around' with photos, if production is key, then to save time, we need to see what we are opening on a single click - it's a no brainer!  Check the forums to see this that is true, and if you are reading this and agree with me, write and tell adobe to fix this - pronto!

Thanks for correcting my quote/unquote quotes.  Yes you are right.  Not a very good use of them.  I took time out to look at your photos.  Very nice.  I also play around with photoshop on my ladscape and fine art photos when I am not trying to make a living (that is paying my mortgage, sending kids to school buying food etc).   I exhibit these in galleries and enjoy the luxury of spending the extra time on them - they even sell occassionaly.
Sorry if you were offended by the use of the term playing around with photoshop. Obviously your work is very nice. Unfortunatly I cannnot show you the work I do at work because of patient confidentiallity and, quite frankly, the images are mostly gross anatomy, wounds, lots of blood - not the sort of thing I like to share unless you are a health professional.
Anyway, since you have posted, can you help me with the problem is the question I beg to ask.

  • How force LR to regenerate preview?

When I edit an existing TIFF file in the PSE Editor, save and close the file in PSE and return to LR LR does not always regenerate the preview so the changes I made in the Elements editor are visible in LR. How can I force LR to regenerate the preview for a specific photo? Thanks.

You may need to alter your prefs in PSE Editor (Expert Mode) so that PSE can overwrite the LR export and return it to the Library:
Edit >> Preferences >> Saving Files
Click the dropdown list and choose Save Over Current File, then click OK.
You normally make the round trip from Lightroom as follows:
    1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings (PSD or 8 bit tiff)
    2) Edit in Elements; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
    3) Ctrl+W to close in Elements and update Lightroom thumbnail.
N.B. Always use Save (Ctrl+S) in Elements and not Save As

  • Open with & Change All revert back to Preview. Can't set Photoshop instead.

To help with analysis of this issue, my system is a G4 PowerMac running OS X Tiger 10.4.11. This issue also involves Photoshop 6.0.1 running in Classic mode.
For my Photoshop files, the default application is no longer set as Photoshop, but instead as Preview. I would like to reset Photoshop as the default application for all files ending with the ".psd" extension. When I right-click (or control-click) on a file ending in a ".psd" extension, select "Get Info", then under "Open with" choose Photoshop, and finally click the "Change All" button, the "Open with" setting reverts back to Preview. I am able to change one file at a time, by selecting Photoshop under "Open with" and by then avoiding clicking on "Change All". Regrettably, it is not feasible to change the settings for every single ".psd" file on the computer in this one-by-one manner.
Does anyone know how to change the default application globally for all ".psd" files to Photoshop, using the command line? I have searched for information on the Internet about the "defaults" command line utility, but have been unable to find an answer in that regard.
Does anyone know of an alternative means by which to resolve this issue?
Thank you for your time and help.
    -John

Thank you for the suggestion, BDAqua. Regrettably, the problem continues to persist. The command at that link did indeed do something because the choices for "Open with" were different. Also, after running the command, Photoshop was not among the default choices, although it could be found after clicking on "Other". This might be shedding light on something. The copy of Photoshop is on a secondary hard drive in order to save space on the main hard drive. Maybe if Photoshop is on the main drive and then the command from the linked page is run, that might solve the issue.
After the opportunity to test that, I plan to post a follow-up message. I must confess that it might be a few days before that happens.
Thank you again for you help, BDAqua.

  • How can I see preview images of STN files in CS4?

I save many of my art files as STN (Genuine Fractals) files so I can print on demand at various sizes. I used to be able to see tiny preview images of these files; now, using CS4 32-bit or 64-bit with Windows 7 64-bit OS, all I see in my STN folder is little blank page icons - no images. I have descriptive filenames, but still - it would REALLY help to be able to quickly scan the images for the one I want to open in PhotoShop. I used to be able to see these preview STN images. Help??

Theoretically, to see Sting format (.stn) thumbnails, you'd have to get a codec from the OnOne software people and install it into Windows Explorer as a shell extension.  This has nothing to do with Photoshop.
I know of no such codec available, at least not for .x64 systems (64 bit Explorer).  I haven't seen .stn thumbnails for a long time, and I currently have their Perfect Resize 7 product.
But it seems to me that a long ago when I used a 32 bit OS there was a time that I could see .stn thumbnails.  Perhaps they once provided a 32 bit codec with their product, or I had a 3rd party codec that understood the format.
It would be a great question to pose to OnOne Software.  If you do, please report back here what they say.

  • Can I extract an InDesign preview image?

Somehow one of my Tiff images that I use in InDesign has been corrupted. PS won't open it (it tells me that it is not a Tiff file), so the only record I have of the image is the preview that InDesign grabbed when I first imported the image. InDesign shows me the image when I go to that page, but when I try to export or print, InDesign tells me it can't find the file.
This image is not a very important one. It is a simple drawing I made in PS with a few fills and I'm quite happy with the quality that I see in InDesign. So I thought I'd try to export it to PDF and grab the image from within the PDF. Wouldn't export. OK, how about embedding the file and exporting? No go. Print? No.
That is my problem. Instead of me spending a few hours to redraw the image, given that I'm happy with what I see on screen, can I get the image out of InDesign?

Sandee, maybe I didn't do what you suggested. Let me use colours to explain what I did. I clicked on the white pointer, clicked on the image and it was surrounded by a brown rectangle, then I copied (or cut) and nothing got copied to the clipboard. I tried images that are OK, and still nothing happened. I am using CS, maybe that's why I can't copy a preview image.
Do you mean that when you copy an image with the direct selection tool, that you are copying InDesign's stored preview to the clipboard?
    I also tried these:
    1. Copying the image and pasting it back into InDesign CS. That worked, but I couldn't copy the second image to the clipboard.
    2. Cut the image and repasted into InDesign. Again, I wasn't able to copy or cut to the clipboard.
Maybe trying to paste into Photoshop CS is where the problem lies. I'm going to download a trial version of CS3 to see if that works.

  • Can you set the print margins in Preview?

Simple question: Is there a way to set the print margins when printing an image from Preview?
    Thanks,
    -ME

I can set margins in other programs (like Photoshop, Word, Excel, Firefox, Chrome...), but there does not seem to be a setting for margins when printing from Preview. I don't want to resize the image, just get it to print in a certain position on the paper (template form).
In the case of Photoshop, you are placing an image on a canvas and can position the image to suit. Word and Excel have a Page Setup menu that lets you set the margin positions - which know since you have got the output you wanted. There is no Page Setup menu for most, if not all, Apple applications like Preview. Instead parts of the Page Setup menu have been added to the print dialog but margins is not one of them.
    EagleSongs wrote:
However, I was trying to find a way to print from Preview and get it to position the image on the page the way I want.
Understood. Unfortunately you don't get that option in Preview. The image will be centred - both horizontal and vertical - based on the paper size and the printer you have selected in the print dialog. You could create a custom paper size with the margins you want to position the image and then use that custom paper in Preview. But your workaround of using Word gives you more control over the positioning of the image.

  • Can I have a preview image(tiff) in panel?

I want a preview image(tif file) in my photoshop extension panel. However, the Flex control Image only support .bmp, .jpg, .png. Is there any control that can have any format image preview like photoshop LAYERS panel do? Or you have another way to fix it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

The Navigator panel has a preview of your .psd with layers. Infact I think it works with all file formats. It can be re-sized to whatever size you want. You may have already known all this. But if not, just open up the navigator panel.. would that work for what you need?

  • A not-deletable preview image is blocking my Adobe Photoshop Elements 11

Hello, thank you very much for your attention:
In the Organizer of Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 is an unconnected preview image named "7 Ostsee.wmv ". I am not able to delete this preview even after  having connected it manually. Since I can not delete this preview, Photoshop Elements 11 remains always hanging in the catalog backup. There must be a direct link between this file error and lost backup function.
I also have repaired and optimezed the catalog without any error message.

.WMV files is some of Windows Media file and you can move it to some other folder by launching the Windows Explorer and going to your pictures folder.  Click on that file once and press "Ctrl+X"  to cut it and then now go to your documents folder (or some other folder) and press Ctrl+v to paste/move the file in that folder.
Windows Media file are sometimes videos and all that and for that you need another adobe program like Adobe Premier Elements but I don't have much experience with it so ignore this for now.

  • Can't install photoshop CS3

I need to use an older version of Photoshop. Adobe said it was my mac.
I'm on 10.6.8 and can't install photoshop CS3. I've uninstalled and when I try to install, I get: please insert CS4. Doesn't sound right to me.
I called Adobe and they wanted $69 to fix the problem. They looked at my crash reports and said it was my mac. I was afraid to let them touch my mac so I didn't go for it. He said I will have problems with other Adobe installations if I don't hire them to fix my mac.
Can anyone read crash reports and help me out? I'm not sure which to include, mac or adobe.

  • Can't instal photoshop CS5 extended because of "subscription error"?

    Hi everyone!
I recently downloaded Photoshop CS5.1 on adobe.com and everything went well. I entered my serial number but at the end of the installation it says:
"We are unable to start your subscription for Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Extended Subscription Edition". It forces me to close the window and I just can't instal the program.
Has anyone got an idea what this is and means? And how can I fix this so I can finally use photoshop???

  • Can't get jpegs small enough in Preview

    Hi,
I get copies of original art posters that my company produces in PDF and jpeg format from my commercial printer, after he scans them. They are 2-7mb in size. I need to reduce them at times and when attempting to do so in Preview ( the default program) they will go down to a cerrtain size ( maybe 1.5mb from 4.5 mb) and that is it, can't get them any smaller.
I would like to be able to produce lower res files (jpegs) to email as samples, files that wouldn't print as well but still be good enough to see, maybe reduce to
    350-650kb.
Short of buying Photoshop, is there a way to do this on my iMac with the currently supplied graphic software?
If not, is there an inexpensive or free shareware/software that I can download?
    Thanks in advance.
    Joe

Items in the Mac App Store are for Mac computers, not for handhelds like the iPad, etc.
GraphicConverter is a full-fledged application. It's been around for decades, and has always been a real value for the price asked.
For your purposes, if you open a jpeg in GraphicConverter and then do a Save As (yes, unlike Apple's programs for Lion GC retains the Save As function), you will be offered an opportunity to reduce the quality without reducing the dimensions; this will reduce the net file size. The method is via a slider with before and after proofs, so you can see the effect before accepting it.
GC also will do batch renaming and conversions (I've done folders containing many thousands of files in one operation), add thumbnails and previews (you control the size), catalog and slideshow presentations, and more. It will convert from/to most any known image file formats.
GC also adds some contextual menu items which can be of use (contextual menus are what pop up when you Control-click or right-click on an item). One of these is the ability to remove a file's resource fork, which gets rid of the embedded preview image (this item is specifically in the Services submenu in the contextual menu). This can be of advantage when you need to reduce a file's net (on disk) size. In Lion the file will still show a thumbnail, provided the enclosing folder's attributes have been set to show icon previews (that setting is in the View Options screen for the enclosing folder - the Desktop counts a s a folder for this purpose), because Lion will use Preview to display a thumbnail for such files.
And, GC includes a basic image editor.
Yes, I am an advocate of GraphicConverter. No, I do not receive any compensation from it. I just think it's a great program.
