Can I forward IPs without Server.app?

I want to forward a local IP range (the gateway that a virtual machine uses, Parallels Desktop 8 with host-only networking) to an IP (that a VPN connection of mine uses). By the time I figured out how it should (?) work using the modern tools of recent macs, I ran into an error suggesting that the feature might be missing from the non-server version of the latest update.
Shouldn't the following work?
sudo pfctl -v -T add 10.37.129.0 192.168.1.84
If it should, is the following error suggesting that this (NAT, IP forwarding) requires Server.app now?! It sounds silly to pay $20 for this single feature, no real server use. (Simple Googling did not yield a definitive answer on this though.)

Btw, I hope the IP I see on the Networks Preference Pane (once connected) is the local address of the VPN connection, not the address I received on the remote network. Please let me know if the IP forwarding should not work, esp. you have a superior solution.

I was more concerned with Linux to be trueful. You see the idea behind this program is that a user running Windows, Linux, Macintosh, etc. can just pop this CD in and execute a command to run it and they have a console that will run identically on any OS. Since I'm building in P2P features they can even use this to copy files between systems without any installation. If this happens in Windows, where running as Administrator is natural for most users, what about with Linux where you're only supposed to run as root in only extreme circumstances. I haven't tested it yet on it but I doubt most users are gonna want to give the program root permission just to run.

Yes, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard before upgrading to Lion. You can purchase Snow Lion from the online Apple Store, a brick-and-mortar Apple Store, or from Amazon.
Then you will have the App Store application and you can upgrade to Lion.

To track a device, ALL of the following criteria must be met:
1) You already registered the device with the Find My iPod/iPhone/iPad utility
2) The device is currently turned on
3) the device is currently connected to the internet (Wi-Fi in the case of your iPod, or 3G on capable devices)*
4) The device has not been reset/wiped/restored
If one or more of those conditions have not been met, then there is no way to track the device.
* if connected to Wi-Fi, locating the device will only be as accurate as Apple's location database of Wi-Fi networks. Some users say that Apple sees their home Wi-Fi network as located in another country!

No, what's crap is your logic (if I dare call it that). Mavericks Server App connect remotely

I'm running OSX Mavericks Server App and when I'm working on the server remotely and I need to restart it I'm unable to connect to it after I restart and the server app doesn't start until the admin user is logged in.
I'd like to be able to connect remotely even when the server is still no the login screen so I can login and start the server app.
And more importantly I'd like to have the server app start automatically preferablly as a service so if anything causes the computer to reboot, the server app services startup immediately after without having to have any interaction.

How to reset users and groups in Server.app?

Recently after change settings in the Server.app (like turn off/on open directory, delete/add certificates), I got a strange problem:
In the users and groups list, it display all local users and groups (looks like system users and groups, about 100 users and groups, but this is a new server)
I tried reset the server.app by following

Have you seen this before and how can I completely reset the server.app to factory default so that I can start over the set up?

In theory, that should restore the users. You can do some surgery if you are really brave. But the reinstall generally should be enough.
These accounts are in the DSLocal data store. Basically, this is very similar to the any OS X machine. Apple keeps a default copy of the Local Database here:
/System/Library/DirectoryServices/DefaultLocalDB/Default
Should you need to reset a machine to the default local database, you can remove the current database (/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default) and then copy the default one to the same location. I would not go this far unless the reinstall was unsuccessful.
To check, you can run this command:
dscl . list /Users
That will list all the Users in the local DB. To get a count, pipe to wc
dscl . list /Users | wc -l
On a Server that I just jumped on, I see 79 users and 111 groups (dscl . list /Groups | wc -l) But this is a system will man SACL groups so I likely have more than the default.

IPlanet can't forward request to app server, why?

My opinion is , iPlanet Web Server 6 + websphere 6 App Server.
I generate the "plugin-cfg.xml" in WAS6 for connecting to iPlanet, but iPlanet can't forward requests to App Server at all, error log as below:
"for host 172.17.18.80 trying to GET /DataExpert/jsp/login/Login.jsp, handle-processed reports: The request method is not applicable to this requested resource."
I guess it must be the configuration problems of iPlanet, what do you think?

Server App can't connect to a Mountain Lion server

Hi,
I installed OS X Mountain Lion Server (2.2.1) on a 2012 Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.4. I am able to access all the options using the Server.app on the Mini. Then I installed the Server.app (2.2.1) on a 2010 MacBook Pro running 10.8.4. On trying to configure the Server options on the Mac Mini from the MacBook Pro by providing the correct Mac Mini admin credentials, the password is not validated correctly. This happens when both the systems are on the same network or on different networks.
I am certain that the username / password provided is correct, since using the same credentials I can successfully remote into the Mac Mini using Apple Remote Desktop (3.6.1) when both the systems are on the same network or on different networks.
My situation supersedes the resolution provided in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3960?locale=en_US. Note that the command sudo launchctl list | grep -q com.apple.servermgrd && echo loaded || echo not loaded returns loaded on the Mac Mini.

I am having exactly the same setup and exactly the same problem - nevertheless I would like to add some more information in order to hopefully find / get help from other readers in here.
I am using DynDNS - not a dedicated domain. I do not utilize an AirPort Extreme for port forwarding and else. All the necessary port forwardings were triple checked!
- First of all "Apple Remote Desktop" is able to connect to my server over the internet (screen sharing) and locally in my LAN. No troubles here.
- My iOS devices can connect using various VNC clients without any troubles.
- VNC connections started within Safari (MacBook Pro) do work very well, too.
- All kinds of WebDAV connections are working like a charme.
- When connecting with "Server.app" from my MacBook Pro it asks if I would like to trust the self-signed certificate before I can enter name and password. After trusting that certificate it doesn't matter which account information I am entering: none is accepted. It does not make any difference if I am using a local user account or a user network account (both configured as being allowed to administer that server). "Server.app" does not accept any information provided.
I've been following the KB advice, too that c xavier mentioned. "servermgrd" is loaded!
For some odd yet unknown reason neither WAN nor LAN FTP login does work, too. It just gives me a time out, as already mentioned WebDAV is working fine.

Forward to different web-app on same server

I can forward a request from a servlet to another web-app on same server, but the authenticated principal is not propagated from original servlet to forwarded servlet. I'm using the requestDispatcher.forward(req,resp) method. It seems that if you forward to a web-app within same EAR or server than the user's identifty should be propagated.

How can I set up Mavericks Server on a Test Mac without affecting the production server

I have Mountain Lion server running as on an xserve as our main server, it has developed a few issues particularly related to Profile Manager and Certificates.
So I was going to use the move to Mavericks as an opportunity to have a fresh start.
So I want to set up Mavericks Server on a mac mini temporarily to test it and configure all the services before moving it to the Xserve as the main server.
My question is what is the best way to do this, obviously I can't use the same IP or hostname as the main server if it is connected to the network, and some services can't be set up without a network connection.
So do I give it a new IP and hostnmame for now and then change it later on, my concern is that changing the hostname might cause issues down the line.
So what is the best way to set up a fresh server in preperation as a drop in replacement of the current server?

Ok I got the test server set up fine and cloned it over to a spare partition on the Xserve.
But when I booted into the new partition several things broke.
1st the IP address changed itself despite the fact it is set to Manual, The Alert section of Server.app let me repair this.
Profile Manager no longer worked, the web page just said Profile manager could not be found, was working fine on the test mac
Tried deleting the OD master and resetting Profile Manager but it still didn't work.
DNS needed repairing and restarting
I decided at that point to abandon it and go back to the test mac where everything is still working.
Any tips for overcoming these issues.
I have thought maybe it would be best to turn off all server services before making the clone and then turn them on one at a time once it has been restored to the new partition on the xserve
Also if the certificates that are created when making an OD master were made on the mac mini does that cause a problem when it has been restored to a different machine, should I leave OD off and just set it up when it is in its final place?

Can't see list of backups of TimeMachine service in Server.app

We can't see the list of backups (users and date of last backup) in Server.app anymore. Load the settings will say, after a couple of minutes:
Error Reading Settings
Service functionality and administration may be affected.
Click Continue to administer this service.
Code 0.
If I click Continue, I see the list of backup destinations and nothing else. In system.log, I get the error below. Both forward and reverse DNS works fine.
Any ideas? I didn't find anything useful on Google...

Back up all data.
Quit the Server application and drag it to the Trash, but don't empty. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to stop all services. You won't lose any data.
Put the app back where it was and launch it. Test.

Can't connect to server with Server app

When I try to login to my server, it is in the servers list in the 'other mac' page (as jsmini.jorestha.be), but I can't login using that item. I can however log in using Other Mac item, typing in its intranet IP address... I can't connect with the real IP address either. Does this have anything to do with the settings? It used to work fine...

See if the IP addresses and the domain names involved are resolving locally, and without having Server.app involved. If there are multiple DNS servers listed in the DNS resolving settings of the Mac client, and some are not on the local network, then apparently-weird problems can happen with a variety of tools.

Can you elaborate a little more on how 9iAS integrates with 9iDS. I have 9iDS up and running on win2k, and I'm developing forms there, and they publish to the web just fine.
But you say for production, we need 9iAS. I have v9.0.2 of 9iAS on a linux box that I want to use. But I can't find a publish directory for forms on the 9iAS box.
Or anything related to forms, except for a $OH/forms90/server directory with 3 or 4 xml files. I can't find any forms configuration files on the app server machine. That's it on the 9iAS machine, form-wise. Do I need to install 9iDS on the same machine as 9iAS to use 9iAS to run forms?
If I develop forms on the windows machine, where do I put them on the 9ias app server? I'm new to forms, so please bear with me.

Calling Reports 10g from Forms 10g without an app server

I have Forms 10g, and for development/testing purposes I am able to run a form in my local machine using the standalone OC4J. I needn't to deploy the form to test it.
I can do the same with Reports 10g -- run a report in my local machine without an app server.
However, I could not manage to call a Report from a Form that way, without an app server. It does not seem possible -- is it? Is there a way to set this up using the standalone OC4J or something like that?

Sorry for the late reply.
Here's how you start the report server from windows XP machine.
1. Choose a unique name for the report server. Eg. <your_pc_name>_repserver
2. As the report server runs in its own process, it can be started by the following command, accessible from the \ bin directory of the
Oracle Developer Suite or Oracle Application Server 10g installation.
rwserver –install <server_name> . It is now treated as a windows service and hence you can stop/start or restart from the services menu.
3. If you want specific settings for your report server, look for the <rep_server_name>.conf file under <orahome>/reports/conf directory, after starting the server from above command. This file is created by oracle automatically, once the rep server gets started.
