I'm giving a 30-minute talk, and want to know where I am in the half hour. Can set the 1st gen iPod Touch as timer on 30 minutes, and not have it go to sleep during that time?

You set the Clock to alarm in 30 minutes. If you do not want the iPod to sleep, then go to Settings>General>Lock-Screen and set a sleep delay interval to 30 minuter or longer.

I noticed that when I am using the watch, it only stays awake for a matter of seconds before going dark. For example, I was using the Stop Watch app and while trying to time something, the watch went dark after a few seconds. This caused me to have to lower and raise my wrist again to access the app again.

I Think it varies with what app you're using, I just went on the message app & left it & it lasted for a good 10/15 secs before going dark plus like what DonCote said you can always just tap the screen to get the screen back up instead of flicking your wrist. Not sure whether apple will change this as they'll want to do anything to help battery performance...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

It works fine outdoors but inside our metal buildings with metal roofs the location services do not work (and PayPal Here does not work) even though I am still connected to our WiFi network. I am not sure what device you are trying to replace the battery on, but usually the battery is at least 30% of the cost of the device from what I have read. Apple likes to keep a monopoly on batteries I think. I have never seen them replace a battery at the store, usually they have to ship it out. You can find batteries for sale online, but you will have to crack the device open yourself.

Can't Update 1st-gen Shuffle

I have iTunes 7.0.2 and Mac OS X 10.4.8. My (1st-gen) shuffle is recognized and syncs older or non-DRM songs just fine, but won't sync some newer songs purchased through the iTunes Music Store. I get a message telling my to perform an update from the Summary tab.
Unfortunately, the Update and Restore buttons on the summary tab are disabled, so I can't use them. Nor can I use the iPod Updater 2.0.1 -- it never recognizes the iPod. The iPod Updater 2006-06-28 *does* recognize the iPod, but fails to recognize a software version. Likewise, the summary tab in iTunes says "n/a" for both Software Version and Serial Number. (I've tried "updating" using the 06-28 version; it tries, but gives me an error.)
How can I update this thing? I'd like to have my newer music on my iPod.

I downloaded and tried the Shuffle Reset Utility, but it couldn't restore the shuffle. I received an error message saying "No Firmware."
However, I went to my wife's Windows computer, downloaded the Shuffle reset utility, and it worked fine, there. In fact, the Shuffle worked flawlessly with Windows (I was able to sync it with my wife's iTunes library, etc).
I thought -- great, back in business! However, when I returned to the Mac and tried to sync with my own music library, I have the same problems; the Shuffle's version, serial number, et cetera isn't recognized, I can't sync newer songs, et cetera.
Obviously, the Shuffle isn't the problem. Also, the Shuffle worked fine with my Mac before the latest iTunes update; I'm beginning to think it's a Mac software issue with the update. The other possibility is a connection issue, but I've tried all the direct USB ports on the computer, and also a powered hub (also, the fact that the Shuffle worked fine, before, makes me think that the connection probably isn't the issue).

I keep trying to sync things among my MacBook Pro, iPAD, and iPhone. Usually this works fine for a few days, but then I notice that the calendars aren't syncing and the "notes" aren't syncing. How can I get them all to stay in sync?

I have an iPhone 6 Plus running 8.1.1
I have my Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Notes set up to sync over iCloud among the three devices.
I haven't had a problem with the Mail or Contacts syncing (at least not as far as I know), but the Notes and the Calendars don't seem to stay sync'd up. I will notice that they aren't sync'ing, will delete and re-sync and they are fine for a while, but inevitably they stop sync'ing at some point. This has been true through earlier incarnations of operating systems, so not something new.
How can I get them to sync and stay sync'd?

I think this is in the right place, But When I set up "App Tabs" they don't stay? They will be gone the next start-up, How can I get them to stay? I am using a dell laptop, Vista 64-bit.
I just recently( today) Installed FF4, Everything works great but the "App Taps", I tried to Pin Funny-junk (I was on the site when I figured out you could pin tabs) to the App Taps and it didn't load back as a App tab, Just a regular Tab on the next start up. I went up to the red X and clicked it to close Firefox(thought I would throw this in in-case someone says it might be because of a Bad exit way like task manenger or something)
