Can I Get a Full Refund for Uneven Backlighting on MPB  after 50 weeks?

I bought a Macbook Pro C2D 17" exactly 50 weeks ago from one of the mac re-sellers that are in towns like Bristol and Swindon in the UK that don't have proper mac's own shops.
I've developed some really bad uneven backlighting on my monitor which is really noticeable when I put a mid tone colour to fill the screen (and even more noticeable when I look at it from a slight angle) and also a light coloured area at the bottom of my screen with is noticeable when he screen is black.
I also have the slight 'grainy' effect that people have been making a lot of fuss about ever since these new macbook pros were brought out, It's a glossy screen also.
A few days ago I passed round the shop and asked if I could qualify for my computer to be replaced with one of the (new) new ones, I'd like this since I find the fans go on with I use second life (and stops and starts a lot) and photoshop on full blast with various other software. Also could do with the extra RAM and resolution.
The salesman at the mac re-seller shop said that It would take about 10 days for my computer to be fixed, now I'm a graphic designer and depend on the computer for my income so that's not an option.
What I'm wondering, and the reason I'm writing this post...I heard somewhere that under UK consumer law that if a product fails to live up to what it's promised to be or is faulty, the consumer is entitled to the choice of a repair, replacement or refund. Is this true and can I qualify for it? The mac re-seller shop is only giving me the option to replace the screen it seems for a lengthy delay instead of giving me other options, what I'd like is the computer to be replaced with the new machine or mac to refund me, so I can give it to apple again by buying the (new) new macbook pro that's just come out.

I can't speak for British Law, however, you should still be covered by the Apple 1 Year Limited Warranty. If you have a verified problem with your computer you should be able to send it in for repair, however, Apple is not required to replace the machine so long as they are making an attempt to make your machine operate normally.
Normal repair time will range from 10-30 business days on most issues when the machine is sent in for repair and, unfortunately, Apple is not responsible for any lost productivity time you will encounter during that time.
You may wish to contact Apple Support or Customer Care for more details.

    When I try the "Download now" button at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/, I only get a stub installer that then requires downloading the remainder of the installer.  I maintain both my own PC and my wife's PC.  I want to install Flash Player 11.1.102.63 twice but download it only once. 
    When I instead try the link for "Flash Player for other browsers" under "Windows 32-bit", I get the full installer for Flash Player 11.1.102.62, not the full installer for Flash Player 11.1.102.63. 
    The latest version of Adobe Reader is available via FTP at ftp.adobe.com.  Why cannot the latest version of Flash Player also be available there? 

    at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/889580 the link for downloading "flash player 10", "for other browsers", still results in the OLD version of FP 10 being downloaded, not the newly updated version, build 10.3.183.16..
    in adobe's security bulletins, it says that you can download the updated versions of "flash player 10" on the "archives" webpage but there are no direct downloads for FP 10 on the webpage, except for downloading the zipped packages, with the "debuggers".. it would be good if there were direct downloads for the updated versions of FP 10..
    also, when i go to the "download center" page, http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP , if i go there with "firefox 3.6", it recognizes that i am running "firefox 3.6" and offers to install "flash player 10.3", but if i go there with "internet explorer 6", it is not recognized and so i am not offered "flash player 10.3", for installing.. in this situation, i need some other way to get "flash player 10.3" for "internet explorer 6"..
    adobe should make things easier for everyone by providing direct downloads for flash player..in my case, i use "flash player 10", so i need direct downloads for it.. yes, it is nice that the downloads are posted in the forum, but why not do it right and have in on some webpage, like on the "archives" webpage where adobe says that "flash player 10" can be downloaded, except that there are no links there for downloading it..

    If you are looking for a refund for the purchase of this application, you must request this from the support web site for the itunes or app's store.   You should note that officially the iTunes Store does not give refunds and that the terms of sale state that "all sales are final". You can ask, though, and perhaps they'll make an exception for you.  Just state why you feel a refund is deserved.

    I don't remember those arrows in 10.6, only 10.7 & up!?
    I have 10.6.8, as you do. To make your Safari full screen, make sure you have the left hand side of your safari page moved  all the way to the left.  Then move your cursor to the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the safari page, and simply drag your page towards the lower right hand corner of the screen. NOTE: you will see a series of lines on the bottom right corner of the page, indicating where to place you cursor arrow.

    iTunes Store menu > View My Account...
    Sign in and select "See All" in Purchase History.
    You can only see them in "batches" of ten. As far as I know there is no way to obtain a comprehensive summary.
    The prices are tabulated in that list. If they were supposed to be free, and they show that you were charged, then click the arrow next to the suspect purchases and click "report a problem".

    I placed an order for BT Infinity and Weekend calls on 30th April to replace MY Virgin Media service. Installation was due on Friday 22nd May. On Sunday 17th May, I made an enquiry over the phone and said I wasn't sure whether to cancel the order as my husband was considering taking a new line in his name instead. The agent kept pushing for an answer and unable to access the information on my computer quickly enough, I eventually said cancel.
    Having spoken to another lady a little later in the day, I was still undecided. Eventually, I discussed the matter online with BT Chat and was told it was fine, I would get a full refund of all monies paid.  A total of £206.85. I asked for confirmation that I would get a full refund if I cancelled. The advisor said 'Yes that is correct'. 
    I printed the chat transcript for my records.
    My husband placed a new order, for BT Infinity and weekend calls in his name with a new phone number and paid £220.43.
    Today, 18th May I have spoken to BT on the phone and the original order in my name has been cancelled. At lunchtime I received an email saying the equipment was being dispatched so I checked again and was told it has been cancelled and if the equipment HAS been sent out to refuse or return it. 
    My husband tried to activate his BT ID. As we share the same email address it would not allow him to put in his security question and his own password, it would only work on my password but now his order is showing under my login details. My husband spoke on BT Chat and we spoke to the agent on the phone too. We are advised this is a technical issue and that it would be passed to the technical team to resolve and they will contact Brian to confirm when it is resolved.
    On top of this, I have had a confirmation that MY BT Sport is being cancelled but no email confirmation that I have been refunded.
    I am obviously very concerned as I have seen posts that say the advanced line rental is not refundable but I allowed the cancellation to go ahead on the assurance of BT that it would be refunded in full AND Brian has paid again for the NEW order in his name.
    How long does it take?  Should I be worried?

Help!  Further info:  I am a complete newbie to Mac.  Had three macs prior to 2000 then four PCs.  Just come back and struggling a bit with the unfamiliarity. On my old PC laptop I could simply switch from the laptop screen to the large external monitor (and back)  with the F4 function key.  While I can get the background image from my MBA to display, that's it.  Until I noticed on the far left of the external monitor, the very edge of one of the web pages I was on.  So Idragged it over to display in the centre.  But that's all that's there.  And now I have gone out of those web pages but they are still displaying on the monitor.  There is some wierd disconnect.  I'm sure it is just a setting thing.  Will keep searching for answer but any advice welcome!

    Your dsplay is getting extended onto the external monitor. Chcnage the setting to duplicate it or only display on the external monitor and you should be fine,

    Theoretically you can use the itunes version to qualify for adobe's upgrade discount, but that's it. All download versions are single platform. And in many countries the street price of the full version of PSE is less than adobe's upgrade price, so it's usually not worth pursuing that. However, if you wish to, I'm told you use your apple ID as your serial number when asked. I don't know anyone who's done this, so I don't know how well it really works.

    The boxed packaging is not sold by Adobe direct. If you want to explore that type of purchase which offers the perk of a Windows and a Mac installation disc, you need to purchase from an authorized reseller who is not going to offer you "upgraded pricing". The seller would be its own entity with its own pricing and own return/refund policy. Sometimes the authorized reseller price may be less than the Adobe"upgraded pricing".
    Did you purchase your Premiere Elements 13 Mac from Adobe direct and are within 30 days of purchase? If so, you can contact Adobe Chat Orders to ask for return/refund. And, then you can explore the authorized resellers for pricing and availability of the box packaging. Maybe check out the pricing all around before making any final decisions.
