Exactly what the title says.
My unlock button got to the point where it does not work literally 80% of the time. I've dealt with it throughout the past couple of months and I've been too lazy to lazy to go to the apple store.
I was planning on visiting the apple store about this issue and I've been told that I would be able to receive a brand new iphone 5 as long as I'm still under the warranty. I purchased the iphone 5 last year sept 10 (pre-order) and got it on Sept 21 i think....so I'm not sure which date is when my warranty will be over.

Stedman1 is right. Go to https://expresslane.apple.com and follow the prompts for iPhone. That's how you can contact Apple either by phone or by Genius Bar appointment for service or replacement. Your phone has a one-year warranty on it, so none of the 5s are out of warranty yet.
By the way, you don't need to restore as new multiple times. That doesn't do anything different than the first time.

My understanding is that any current iPhone owner with an AT&T contract can get the $199/$299 prices regardless of when they last upgraded or renewed. Rationale seems to be that the original iPhone purchase was not subsidized by AT&T.
If that were not true, no current owner would be able to get the prices above, since we all bought the iPhone about 12-13 months ago at most and have no less than 11 months left on our two-year commitments.
I'm sure there is info on this on line somewhere. But best just go to an Apple store or an AT&T store and ask them.

I can't get my new iPhone to sync

Just purchased a new iPhone. Activation went OK. However, I can't sync through iTunes. I get an error message asking if I want to turn on syncing. I say yes, then I get a second error saying something like "Syncing can not be started on this computer." I can get the exact wording if that is important.
What I have done so far:
Disk utility to verify disk and repair permissions.
Tried to run iSync seperately. iSync does not run and I see the following in Console:
dyld: Symbol not found: kCALSTR_XWR_fulldayprop
Referenced from: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SyncConduit.framework/Versions/A/SyncConduit
Expected in: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CALCore.framework/Versions/A/CALCore
I then downloaded and reinstalled iSync. No change.
Any help is appreciated.

Is there a way I can retrieve this data for the phone? I didn't have any contacts with the ipad backup, just the phone and I really need them.

Call Apple support or make an appointment at an Apple Store and have them evaluate the iPhone. If they determine that the button is defective and the iPhone hasn't been subjected to user damage, they'll replace the iPhone under warranty.
