Can I get another system install disk?

My boyfriend and I recently moved and he threw away the box for my MacBook away without telling me. My system install disk(s) were in the box and are now gone.
Is it possible to get a replacement from Apple?
If so, how do I go about doing so?

Maybe I'm just an idiot, but where can I find the serial number on the computer? I had to have overlooked it...and now I feel stupid.
Option-click the little apple logo top left and run System Profiler
Serial number is the next to last item under Hardware Overview.

  • How can I get a Leopard Install Disk?

    Hi there,
I have a 13" MacBook Mid-2007 model and it ran into some problems, I got a Apple MacBook 13" Mac OS X LEOPARD 10.5.6 disk off eBay, but I get an error everytime I boot, says "Mac OS X cannot be installed on the computer." Also, I'd kinda like to save some money, so if it's about the same amount to get Snow Leopard, that'd be just as great!
    Thanks in advance!
    --C.J.

You will need a retail copy of Mac OS X 10.5. The install disk from a different model of Mac will not work and is not legal to use. The Apple Store may still have copies of Leopard if you call them (they're not available via the web ordering); if not, you'll have to look to other dealers or on eBay. Again, though, you must get the retail (black label) version.
There is no longer a Snow Leopard package available for those who do not have Mac OS X 10.5, at least not on the Apple Store, but again, the Apple Store may still have it if you call. It was called the "Mac Box Set" and included iLife and iWork as well as Snow Leopard.
    Regards.

  • Anything a system restore disk can do that a system install disk won't?

Hi, I am eBaying a set of Jaguar installation disks (from an old system that I later upgraded). A fellow asked if they would work the same as a "recovery" disk. Apparently he has a powerbook G4 that only displays a blue screen when he boots up, and Apple support told him to use his recovery disks (which he doesn't have). Any reason he couldn't use these original system disks to do the job? PS. I also have an Apple Hardware Test disk that I have leftover from my powerbook G4 that I'm going to throw in for free- think that might help?

Gray colored discs that came with a specific model computer are not universal and are only intended to work on the model with which they were supplied. There may be numbers on the discs that will help delineate compatibility but somebody else would have to help you with that.
AHT too applies to groups of machines. [X-Lab: The Apple Hardware Test|http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/aht.html]
[Apple's AHT support|http://www.info.apple.com/support/aht.html] - Apple Hardware Test Images and Information
Here's the list and downloads for AHT if you have an old G4: http://www.info.apple.com/support/aht.html
If your discs are black retail installation discs, those will work on any model capable of booting Jaguar. However, retail version discs do not have a complete set of software for "restoring" a computer. For example, they often omit Classic, and bundled software such as iMovie. etc.

  • Where do i get a windows install disk???!!!!

where can i get a windows install disk? do i have to buy a new windows os?
    thx

No because then you will have not only have installation issues but also validation issues. If you are using Boot Camp on your Mac to install any of the windows versions then you will need a FULL version of the Windows operating system.

  • I lost my Hard disk and had to replace it, how can I get another copy of lion OS, P.S. I bought my macbook pro with preinstalled Lion OS

I lost my Hard disk and had to replace it with a new one, how can I get another copy of lion OS, as the guy at the serive center installed 10.6 for me.
P.S. I bought my macbook pro with preinstalled Lion OS

If you have a way to wipe 10.6.8 off, you can then reboot your machine (with no OS) and since your system came preinstalled with Lion, Internet Recovery should occur which will boot to Apple's servers into a Recovery HD for you to redownload and install Lion.
To be safe I would first make a clone of the current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!. This way you have a way to recover.

  • Can I use an iMac install disk on another iMac?

My wife just bought a 2010 iMac (3.06 GHz Intel Core i3), and it's identical to mine, but it didn't come with the 10.6 install disk.
    Can she use mine?
I can't seem to find a solid answer.
    Thank you

No.  System DVDs are machine specific.  Your wife needs to get the system DVDs from the place she purchased the comp from.  Older Macs are not to be sold w/o them per Apple's license agreement.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html Another resource:  International Support Phone #s.

  • How can I get Lion re installed after crash and no recovery disk?

I bought Lion some time ago I did not do a recovery disk and now I had a huge crash. I started over with Snow Leopard cause that's all I had. How can I get Lion re installed?

Make sure you're up to 10.6.8 through Software Updates, and then re-download Lion from the App Store.
Incidentally, many Macs (from 2010 models onwards) have the ability to run Internet Recovery, even if your original hard drive crashed, which will allow you to re-download and install Lion directly from the internet.
But the best way is always to have a local backup of your system drive.

  • My mac os install cd1 is scratched how can I get another one.

    HI Mac Folks,
My mac os install cd1 is scratched. how can I get another one?
MY computer won't start again. I have tried several tips (safe mode, single user ...) without success. when I attemp to boot on CD1 while pressing C key to try a repair, the computer won't boot (broken apple displays on my screen). After many actions to sort the issue out, I would like to reinstall my Macbook 2006 but I discovered that my mac os install CD1 is scratched, how can I get another CD?
    Thanks for your help.

Apple may still supply the original restore CDs/DVDs for a nominal fee. Have a your serial number and model information available when you call them.

I am not sure why you can boot into diagnostic OK but not install from the cd. I think it is a dvd not cd. You sure you have the correct cd/dvd?
You can boot in startup manager on your machine by holding down the option key when you poweron. This will give you a little more info. Click on what you want to boot the click on the right arrow.

  • I purchase this macbook at a yard sale. did not come is os disc. i can not get the system preference to open up an operate to change desktop and remove old accounts. any suggestions will be very helpful

hello community, im new to macbook; i purchase this macbook at a yard sale everything seems to be working ok but i am unable to access the system preference in order to change the desktop or remove old accounts. the owner did not have the os disc. does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem.
    thank you

If you don't have your install disks you can get the gray install disks by calling Apple StoreCustomer Service at 1-800-676-2775 They can send them to you for about $16 per disk plus S & H. Just give them your serial number and they'll know which ones you need. Which would be $32 for the two disks. With the original disks you also get the iLife that was current when your MacBook was bought included on the #2 disk.
You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

  • I have installed Smile Box and can't get it to install, I am running a Mac Powerbook G4 10.5.8 1.33 GHz help?

I am running a Mac Powerbook G4 OSX 10.5.8 1.33 GHz  and can't get Smiebox to install, it downloads the program just fine but will not let me install it, can someone tell me why?

    Hi SusieQ,
Seems they have no idea what they're doing over there, to wit...
    Mac Snow Leopard and above*
In general, we recommend a multi-core processor and at least 2 GB RAM.
Connection to the Internet is required; Smilebox is optimized for a high-speed broadband connection, and that faster connection will give you the best performance.
Smilebox uses your Internet browser and Flash11 (or higher) to run. We automatically detect whether Flash is installed and will help you install the free download if need be. You will also need javascript enabled. Your internet browser and any security software (firewall, antivirus) you have on your computer may need to be configured to "allow" Smilebox internet access. Please refer our article on - I have security software (firewall or anti-virus software) that I suspect is blocking Smilebox.  What can I do to fix that?
If your computer shipped with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 you can install run Smilebox; we do require that Windows XP computers have Service Pack 3 installed.
To run Smilebox on your Mac, your Macintosh should have an Intel or Power PC processor on a G5 or higher (if your Mac was made in the past 3 years, it should meet this requirement), 2GB or more RAM.
*Smilebox will not run on earlier versions of the Mac OS X including Leopard (10.5).
Snow Leopard is 10.6.x, no G3/G4/G5 PPC Mac can run 10.6 or above.
So this line is wrong, or two other lines about Snow Leopard are wrong....
To run Smilebox on your Mac, your Macintosh should have an Intel or Power PC processor on a G5 or higher

I accidentally deleted GarageBand on my MacBook Pro, version 10.6.8.  The new version of GarageBand is only compatible with 10.9 and above.  Is it possible to still get the older version?  OR, can I get another copy of the startup CD that came with my computer so that I can reinstall GarageBand?

The new version of GarageBand is only compatible with 10.9 and above.
If your Mac can run MacOS X 10.6.8, it probably can be upgraded to Yosemite, if you don't have to stick to Snowleopard for other reasons.
Is it possible to still get the older version?
Amazon or eBay are still selling iLife '11 installer disks, and you could reinstall GarageBand from these DVDs. But it will be expensive.
Have you checked your backups, if you can restore GarageBand from a backup?
OR, can I get another copy of the startup CD that came with my computer so that I can reinstall GarageBand?
Sometimes the AppleStore Support will replace missing installer CDs for a fee.

  • How can I get Verizon to install fiber in my neighborhood? Have been waiting 10 years.

How can I get Verizon to install fiber in my neighborhood?
I have been on the notification list for nearly 10 years with no action.
Current DSL download speed is only 3.0 Mbps, the max available for copper twisted pair, so I am told by tech support.
Unless Verizon will install fiber in my neighborhood, my only option to obtain faster internet service is to change to another provider, though I would prefer to remain a Verizon customer.
Any suggestions for alternate providers, under the circumstances?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Forget it. I've been waiting 13 years and every town around me has Fios, in fact my town is a small [27k population] city who provides the phone exchange numbers for the surrounding towns with Fios! Figure that out. I myself have given up and am moving on to Time Warner for my internet and phone and will not return even if fios does appear before the end times.. They are actually cheaper than verizon when flat rate phone service and real broadband speeds are figured in. Verizon only has last century's DSL technology available. Leave verizon, they don't care if do or not.

  • I lost all my purchased songs when my hard drive.  Can I get another copy from Apple?

I lost all my purchased songs when my hard drive.  Can I get another copy from Apple?

Quite possibly, at least assuming you are based in the US. Install the latest build of iTunes, sign into the iTunes Store and click the Purchased entry in the Quck Links panel. Here in the UK I only get tabs fro Apps and Books but, if I understand correctly, you should also get a tab for Music. Click on the Not in My Library button and you should be able to download your purchases again.
