Can I get books from any other source than iBooks and read them in iBooks?
I find that the iBooks Store list of titles is somewhat limited and some popular titles are not available. Can I purchase an ebook from another source, download it and then read it in iBooks? I have the iPad 2' my daughter has a Kindle but when it comes to getting books to read she has it all over me and my iPad.
No, eBooks tend to have digital rights management on them so can usually only be read in a store's own app i.e. iBooks in the iBooks, Amazon's books in the Kindle app, Barnes & Noble in the Nook app. iBooks will open DRM-free ePub books.
As there is a Kindle app for the iPad then you have the advantage over your daughter, because you can read Amazon's, Apple's and Barnes & Noble's ebooks (you just need separate apps).

Although with many hacks there could be some sort of workaround that advanced users may employ when attempting to circumvent the measures, such as the ability to use Firefox in safe-mode and then install add-ons, or even run a browser from a memory stick.

after loading yosemite can't get permissions from any network PC - OK from MACs on network...any advice?
would love to...way over my head so far...upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 - I have another MAC (motorola chipset...maybe 10.6?) and 3 PCs on the network...the older MAC linked up through the network just fine...
I can see the Yosemite MAC on the PCs...I can open customer file folders (I am a printer) from the shared drive...I can drag files (let's just call them PDFs, they mostly are) to the MAC customer file...but if I try to open them from the PC I get an error message that says permission denied - or may be in use by another user. There are no other users. After I uploaded to Yosemite, I noticed most if not all drives and or folders had permissions changed to either no access or to read only...I've changed as many as I could find...drives, and folders...I can open those same files if I'm on the yosemite mac...Here's the catch, though...I was on a different floor and that PC can open a PDF on the Yosemite...but the RIP that prints our large format prints now won't print those files (whole RIP locks up) unless they are first dragged to the PC desktop...then all is fine. I thought it was MAC upgrade oriented, but I do have a PC that halfway works...I'm really stymied... -

Since iTunes Match nor iCloud supports storing video content at this time (other than music videos purchased from the iTunes Store) what you want to do is not possible. There may be other cloud storage solutions out there, but none that integrate with iTunes.
FYI, if any of the movies are purchased from the iTunes Store the service Apple calls iTunes in the Cloud by be a partial solution for you. However it is strongly recommended that keep a local backup of all your purchased media and not depend solely on a third party (Apple) to keep your data safe. -

Can not receive emails from any accounts rather than Rogers(my ISP)
Hi all,
I have OCS10g installed on RHEL_AS4. Currently I got problem to receive and send emails both inbound and outbound.
When I send e-mail by either Oracle Web Access Client or Oracle Mail. It went smooth through the sending page. Unfortunately I can not get the e-mails neither from inbound or outbound domains, except [email protected]. Rogers is my current ISP and I am using the TZO dynamicIP service for the OCS server.
The configuration for smtp_inbound_server are as following. Has anyone known the solution of my problem?

.......When I check the logfile, I found the error messages like this :

If you no longer have access to your iPhone, you will need to contact Apple for help deactivating your phone number from their iMessage system so those with iPhones will send normal text messages to your phone number instead of iMessages.

Can I get photos from iPhoto into Lightroom 3 (or/and 4)?
I have PSElements 10 and iPhoto (iLife) 9. I am looking into purchasing LR-3 or the trial on LR-4. I have 10,000 photos in iPhoto. Can I bring them into LR? Individually? By folder? If they are brought into LR and also are in iPhoto, are they really on my computer twice? Thank you!
I'm a newbie to LR and have downloaded the LR4 demo hoping to use it with iPhoto 09. I'm basically OK with the Mac but not an expert and would like to point out a couple of problems I had which might make others think twice about 'experimenting'.
To access your iPhoto files, go to the finder, locate your iPhoto library, right click on the library icon and scroll down to 'Show Package Contents. A new window will open with various files and folders including Modified and Originals. I'm shooting Canon RAW and all my CR2 files are stored in the Originals folder in dated folders. From here on in I'm a little out of my depth but I believe the Modified folder holds .jpg files which are copies of the CR2 files which iPhoto uses when showing photos in Events and editing. They may also have some auto corrections applied so they look brighter and more saturated than the original CR2s.
The easy way to allow LR to 'see' these folders and files is to create an alias of the iPhoto library or the Originals folder and ask LR to import from the alias and this does work *but* I did something wrong and this is where you can start to screw things up in a big way. First, I didnt find it easy to understand the way that LR stores (or links) photos in Folders and Collections, second I found the import options slightly ambiguous so I tried to import just a few photos from 2012 / March (in the Originals folder) which worked fine. Then I did the same for Feb which worked fine. Then I imported the whole Originals folder and I was impressed, LR imported all the folders from iPhoto with identical dates and each dated folder had all the photos.
All well and good but when I next opened iPhoto my February and March photos were missing so I guess I must have used the wrong import option but I thought, probably mistakenly, that LR didnt touch the original files it only created links. Perhaps someone could help on that one.
Next, I tried a Time Machine restore on iPhoto which took ages and didnt salvage the missing photos so I copied the missing photos from a Time Machine backup using the finder to another folder and reimported them into iPhoto which worked. Great. And then Time Machine encountered an error (not enough space on backup disk), all backups were lost and I had to reformat my external drive to get Time Machine functioning properly again.
My apologies for this long winded summary but I really wanted to explain that it looks like LR4 can import from iPhoto (and do it really well) if done correctly and it would be really good to have someone (at Adobe?) with more experience than myself to write up a list of instructions for Dummies.
One final point, LR4 is using different basic adjustments to photos with a 2012 process which differs from the 2010 process in ACR which confuses things more and there's a beta version of ACR using the same 2012 process which I've downloaded. Took me ages to understand what was going on (and why exif wasnt showing / saving correctly) ... And very finally, there's other things I found out only by trial and error that are far too long winded to explain here!
LR4 looks really good but is sadly missing some very important instructions when it comes to importing from iPhoto 09. -

I did a search for the answer to this 2 part question but got only a jumble of answers,mostly from 2010.

2. What is the easiest and best way to read them once they are on my iPad?
I have seen some mention of .pdf reader Apps and also mention of using iTunes to sync .pdf's between desktop Mac and iPad but no explanation of how to do it. Even the iPad2 Missing Manual gives short shrift to this topic.

Another way to get PDF files to your iPad are to email them. I find this to be the absolute, simplest way transfer PDF files. It may not be practical for multiple PDFs but for a couple here and there it really is so easy and simple to do. When you open the PDF in the email you can choose the Open In function and then open them in iBooks where you can save, read and print them. Another method is to use DropBox for access to multiple PDF files.
There are any number of PDF reader apps available and you can look for them in the app store. -
Can't get book from itunes on to iPad

I downloaded a book "Bierbaum - Walt Disney World 2012" on to my windows computer in iTunes. However, when I try to drag it to my iPad it won't do it. Even when I connect my iPad online to my iTunes account, it says the book has been downloaded. But I can't find it anywhere on my iPad.
What am I doing wrong? How can I correct this?It should sync from your computer, or download directly on the iPad, into the iBooks app. If you can't find it in the iBooks app then try closing the app completely and see if it shows when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with iBooks 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iBooks app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset and see you can find it after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -

I see this a lot in CS4 and Mac. It means something damaged the License verification. Usually a move from another Mac or from Time Machine.
Two choices: Reinstall using your discs and your serial number. The easiest choice.
Or try the 150:30 fix using Terminal and the License Recovery scripts. 150:30 Start with post 11.
I would not recommend it if you have never worked with Terminal scripts.
It would be the last resort if you lost your serial number.

Connect the iPhone to your computer and select it on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes (if you don't have iTunes installed then you can download it from here), and there should be a series of tabs on the right-hand side, one of which is Music - select that tab and you can then select which of your music to sync to the phone.
