Can I get Firefox to go full screen in its own space with bookmarks shown (OS X Lion)?

Under OS X Lion, many apps will operate in their own space, separate from the desktop. Firefox in full screen mode (or otherwise) sits on the desktop space. also, the only way to view bookmarks is to leave full screen. It just seems so awkward compared to Chrome or Safari. There are so many compelling reasons to use Firefox, but these issues keep me from doing so.
Please tell me that I have missed the settings that will fix these issues.

Set it to full screen?
What happens when you set it to full screen, quit, and restart Safari?

I can't get Firefox to populate full screen. It's live on the task bar (because it will give me a mini preview when I move the mouse over it) but nothing I try, including uninstall and re-downloading, has worked.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

• How can I get Firefox to fill my screen? There are gaps in the top and bottom of my screen, thanks.

I dropped my laptop recently and messed up the hard drive so after installing new hard drive I reloaded win 7 and Mozilla Firefox. When Firefox loads up there is a 1" plus gap on the top and a half inch gap at the bottom of all pages. How can I get the browser to fill the screen? Thanks.

This website is using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving and filling the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save names and passwords and other form data.

• How do you name the icons at thr top of thre page as I could with the old firefox ,ie the reload arrow as its own icon with name title.

with the previos version of firefox I could name the icons on the address bar line at the top of the page...it was easier to do this than find for examplr the arrow for reload...all I did was go to customise and add the titles to the icons in lower case letters.........this I cannot do with this new version of firefox [ 29.0.1 ]....I have checked the custoise section but cannot find an item to title up the icons ...this is proving very inconvenient .

Move your mouse to the top of the Firefox window, then right click.
You will see a menu of the available toolbars. Select Customize.
In the new window, look for the icon. When you find if, hold down
the left button on it, and move it to where you want it to be.
You can move any of the icons you want from here, but some
icons are locked in place.

• I can't get past the grey apple screen using mavericks

I can't get past the grey apple screen trying to boot up with Mavericks. I had been using Mavericks for about a month (only had issues of freezing occasionally). I read in one of the posts here that I should try holding command R down when booting. I did now I just get a grey screen without the apple.  Any advise?
I have a Mac Mini

Hello ther cnickers,
It sounds like the initial install of Mavericks went ok, and you have been using it for a while, but now cannot boot to your desktop and are stuck at a gray screen with an Apple logo. I would recommend a couple of things here:
First, try performing a Safe Boot to see if that will load up for you. If so then leave Safe Boot and restart from the Apple menu to try and get to your deskop:
To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), follow these steps.
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key.
The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
After the logo appears, you should see a progress bar during startup. This indicates that your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
To leave Safe Mode, restart your computer without holding any keys during startup.

If that works fine, I would next also verify and repair your disk if needed.
Disk Utility 12.x: Repair a disk
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5836
Print this help page so you can refer to it later. (You don’t have access to Disk Utility Help when you restart up your computer in the next step.)In the Disk Utility Help window, choose Print from the Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear).
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts. When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
Click Repair Disk.If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done. Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility reports “overlapped extent allocation” errors, two or more files occupy the same space on your disk, and at least one of them is likely to be corrupted. Check each file in the list of affected files. If you can replace a file or recreate it, delete it. If it contains information you need, open it and examine its data to make sure it hasn’t been corrupted. (Most of the files in the list have aliases in a DamagedFiles folder at the top level of your disk.)
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

• How can I get rid of a split screen?

When I use my bookmarks I get the web site on the left side of the screen and fire fox opening page on the right side of the screen

None of the "solutions" described in this help list works. There is no "properties" option when I right-click Bookmarks. The smaller side screen has nothing to do with Bookmarks. I start with a full screen, launch another URL and lo I have a half-screen for ever. I can get rid of the half-screen by killing it, but what I want is to get rid of the main screen (Google News) and NOTHING will do that -- and I have the most recent Firefox!
HELP!
PS I just discovered that the problem only appears with one URL and it is not set to open in a sidebar, so the problem remains although its simpler than I thought.

• My dock disappears when I am using Word. How can I get it back on the screen?

My dock disappears when I am using Word.  How can I get it back on the screen?  Thanks very much.
Bill

You may have blundered into "Full Screen" mode, an abomination ported from iOS, the iPhone Operating System, land of tiny screens and one-at-a-time Applications.
Try clicking the double-arrows in the extreme upper right of the MenuBar or Window.

• I have tried all can not get firefox to search for website

I run Windows XP.
It all began with the fiollowing error - "could not load xpcom. From there I redownloaded and installed - the foillowing scenario followed on this.
I can not get firefox to connect to the net.
I re downloaded and installed firefox, 3 times, no difference.
My home page shows on my desk top screen - but it clearly does not work as it will not do any searches and connect to other websites.
When trying to use in "Options" it closes the firefox home page, as though I had exited it.
I have now spent 2 days reading and trying all as given in firefox help and community forum - nothing I read fits the bill, or has been of any assistance.
The search field is empty and I can not get it to accept a search engine name like google or any other. I know firefox has a choice - but the pull down choice menu does not open.
I am now at a total loss and desperate to get back to work having wasted 22 days already trying to repair same.
I tried the automatically install add ons as per this very "automatically add" button, but it says Firefox can not modify the required file.
Please help I am desperate!

As I said, I have read about all.
There is no solution there for me - I am not an internet guru and must be honest some of the solution provided seem high tech and beyond me - they refer to certain aspects of the system which I do not see on my computer.
I would like some one to give me a step by step solution if there is one.
It began as follows when I tried to open firefox...
It told me (for some reason) about 5 days ago ..."could not load xpcom."
I have read and read and eventually found what I thought would be the solution. - Reinstall.
I re downloaded/installed the latest version of Firefox. Now the page opens but it is inert - does no searching and does not accept any search engine addition - neither does it provide a choice of search engine as it used to do.
I USED THE FIREFOX PAGE ABOUT 5 DAYS AGO SAME COMPUTER.
I can open various url's which i have saved for research purposes and also things like my bank account to do tfrs. No problem.
My email also works fine.
For some reason the newly installed version of Firefox does not see the internet or react to anything - (have reinstalled 3 times) -neither does it accept anything one types into the search field - when I click to activate the search it simply deletes it.
I need some "help fpr dummies" please
Thank you for your interest to help - much appreciated.

• How can I get an image from the screen? Like screen printer in PC to pasting after in word or other program.

How can I get an image from the screen? Like screen printer in PC to pasting after in word or other program.

If you do Cmd+Shift+3 you'll get a full screen image saved to your desktop as a jpg file.
Also, you can use Cmd+Shift+4 and you'll get a cursor which you click+drag to draw a box. When you release the drag the boxed in area will be saved to the Desktop as a jpg file.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance

• On Firefox Nightly (64bit) full-screen is not full-screen. Menu bar and tabs appear above the full-screen.

I'm running Debian Testing (Jessie) with a 3.15-10.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 kernel. I'm running Mozilla Nightly 34.0a1. All is well except in full-screen mode. The problem is present whether running a video using the Flashplayer or HTML5. When playing a video and selecting "Full-screen mode" Firefox goes into full-screen as usual, except... the tab bar appears above the so-called "full" screen and so does the navigation/search bar which appears just below the tab bar and just above the video itself.
I can make this problem disappear by creating a new profile which is basically a "blank slate" (nothing added). I can show you a screen-shot if you wish to see the non-full-screen yourselves.

Hi dsiddens
You can right-click empty space on the Tab bar or Navigation Toolbar to open the toolbar context menu and set a tick on "Hide Toolbars".

• HT4623 Just installed io7, now I cannot get Netflix  to be full screen. Also ipad start up etc seems a lot slower.

Just installed ios7 on ipad 3. Now cannot get netflix to be full screen. Also start up of ipad is suddenly slow.

I don't use netflix yet on mine but the slow startup I might be able to help. I just restarted mine and in maybe 5 seconds is restarted.
If you have a lot of programs running in the background that may be causing the slow start or shutdown. To close those running programs, 4 finger upto get to the running programs and to close them, tap one and hold for a second and flip upwards,, it will go off the top of the screen, closing it. Do this with all that you want closed, there will only be the main screen you can't close that will be left.
I also shut off location services, Bluetooth and under safari there a use data option which for some reason turned on but I could have clicked yes somewhere and those got turned on, but I turned them off since I don't need them on.
Then try a restart.

• Can't get firefox to autoupdate. It fails every time and I have followed your instructions to fix it

I can not get firefox to auto update. It down loads the update then fails when it restarts firefox every time. I have followed your instructions and it still fails. I have gone into the MS firewall and insured it is in the exceptions list as well as Trend micro systems. I would really like to get this fixed as I love your program. this is just driving me nuts. Thanks in advance for your help. Sure would be nice if you had phone support, I guess we get what we deserve when its for free.

Install over the existing install (will not lose profile).
Use another browser for this (IE, Chrome etc.)

• How do I get Elements to occupy full screen on my macbook pro? - the docking station remains visible and I don't want to have the dock in hide mode?

How do I get Elements to occupy full screen on my macbook pro? - the docking station remains visible and I don't want to have the dock in hide mode?

Unfortunately, there is no answer to this problem via this link. It may be that this is simply how the software actually works. It is a design fault in Adobe Photoshop Elements. It is possible to temporarily hide the dock within 'system preferences'. Oh well. Someone may know better.... I hope!
