Can I get iDVD 5?

I have iLife '05 which I purchased a long time ago. It came with both an install CD and an install DVD. The CD only contains iMoveHD, iTunes and iPhoto. The DVD has those three plus iDVD and GarageBand. My problem is that I can't find the DVD... I'm trying to reinstall everything but all I have is the CD, which means I can't reinstall iDVD or GarageBand. Is there some way that since I have the CD I can download the other two that aren't on the CD... or can I get a replacement DVD somehow? Hopefully without having to pay for it since I did already buy the software...

With the price that iLife 05 is going for, you may as well get the newest version that your Mac can handle. (Be certain to check the system requirements prior to purchasing any version)

Since Apple has stopped supporting and offering iDVD you'll need to purchase the iLIfe 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: iLife 11 which will include iDVD 7.

iMovie wii no longer share with iDVD.  I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 and now I can't get iDVD to work properly.  Any thoughts?  This is what comes up.....

iDVD does work with Yosemite although, as Kappy pointed out unsupported for 2 years, so try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents of IDVD'S cache folder: User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
If iDVD crashes again post the first 50 lines of the crash report.  Don't post a screenshot but copy and paste the actual text.
To get a movie from iMovie to iDVD it should be exported out of iMovie as 480p and added manually to iDVD.

  • HT4711 where can I get iDVD for Macbook pro

Does anyone know where I can get iDVD for use with iMovie on a Macbook Pro - only 4months old

Just purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.

  • I moved a iMovie video from a macPro to an IMac. In iMovie the option to export the video to media browser is greyed out, but the video is not listed on iDVD media. How can I get iDVD to find it or find a way to re-export it to media browser?

I moved an iMovie from a MacPro to an iMac. In the iMovie share option Media browser is greyed out (It was previously shared to the Media b
rowser on the MacPro). The video is not listed in the iDVD media list. How do I get it listed in iDVD or find a way to re-export it?

Did you transfer a Quicktime movie files from the Mac Pro to your iMac?  If so make sure the video plays correctly in Quicktime Player.  If it does you can put it in your Movies folder and from there drag it into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.  It doesn't have to come from iMovie. You can just drag and drop into iDVD.

  • How can i get idvd for my new iMac?

Just got a new imac and went through the process of creating a home video and when it got to open idvd section it couldnt find it.
I called apple and was told they are no longer including it in ilife. Great. Can I buy the ilfe 11, or do I need to find an old copy? It seems like on some of the sites I have looked up idvd is not included in ilfe11 and some say's it is. I don't feel like the hassle of having to return it if its not included.
Also, is there a way to download it somewhere for free??? I wish I would have known because I did see a good deal on the previous version but figured I would pay a little more for the brand new model. I think this is an important little detail apple salespoeple should mention. After all, apple has made a pretty good name for itself in film editing. (although I realize if I had final cut studio it would include idvd) what about us novices? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Just got a new imac
That will prove helpful in getting a free copy of iDVD, because you are still within the return period.
I think this is an important little detail apple salespoeple should mention.
Agreed, buyers should have to sign a document acknowledging that iDVD is not included.
After all, apple has made a pretty good name for itself in film editing.
    Let's hope that doesn't change.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
Make a couple of phone calls.
iDVD is a “Must Have".   (Yes, it should be included.)
Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.

If you are still within your 15 day return period,  nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.
Most people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
they got a free copy of iDVD.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

For best quality, I use iMovie 06 and iDVD 11 on a Mac Pro tower.

  • How can I get iDVD into iMovie?

I made a short DVD by sending iPhoto pictures to iDVD. Everything works fine: music, captions etc., but I cannot get it into my iWeb page. Is there any way now to export it to iMovie so iWeb can take it?
    Frank

    that's a detour..
from within iPhoto, choose Export with Quicktime and export as a .mov
import THAT into iM, to process further..

If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

  • How can I get iDVD to not interrupt the music in a slideshow?

It plays fine on my MacBook, but when I burn it to disc it pixelates the picture for a brief moment and blips the music in between every picture on the slideshows. Is there any way to have the pictures load smoothly without a pixelation, music pause in the middle?

Is there any way to have the pictures load smoothly without a pixelation, music pause in the middle?
Slides in an iDVD created slideshow are actually Chapters and many DVD players pause on Chapter changes.  This will cause drops in your music.
In addition, I have notced that some transitions give worse 'pixelation' than others.
I only use iDVD for very basic slideshows (no transitions and no music).  I create all the rest as movies by using the commercial program from Bionx called FotoMagico.  Others here like the commercial program Photos to Movies and you can certainly use iMovie.

  • Can't get iDVD to burn disc/image

Heya, I've got my entire dvd working in iDVD, with the menus, movies, and everything totaling 2.9GB out of 4.2GB possible. Menus are 8:13 out of a possible 15:00, so I know the data sizes are fine.
Whenever I try to burn my disc, it gets to the "Rendering menu video asset" section, and nothing happens. The program just goes to the spinning beach ball and then stops responding.
I searched the forums a bit and found out to try saving the project as a disc image, and then burn it with disc utility, but even on that, it still freezes when trying to render the menus.
This is the third disc I have authored, and the other two worked just fine, and very quickly. Any ideas on why this isn't working.
P.S. I have not edited any of the videos directly, such as there are no transitions or chapter markers in any of the videos.

Have you used any MP3s in iDVD? AAC and AIFF are OK.

  • I can't get iDVD to write to my external DVD burner

Hi all. This is my first post. I looked around for some similar topics, but didn't find one that exactly answered my question, so I hope someone can help.
I've got a G4 that doesn't have a SuperDrive, just the read-only DVD drive. It's got 1GB of RAM and about 22GB of HD space available. I recently got my first digital video camera and decided to try editing my video using iMovie. I purchased a Sony firewire DVD burner since my Mac isn't equipped for burning DVD's. The Sony drive appears to be working fine. I put various discs in and the computer recognizes them, and I have burned several data CD's and DVD's already.
I just finished my first project in iMovie and got it all ready to go in iDVD 4. The only problem is that the "burn" button is grayed-out so I can't click on it to start the burning process.
My theory is that iDVD isn't recognizing the external burner, and still believes that my G4 is incapable of burning DVD's since it has no SuperDrive. Am I anywhere close in my diagnosis? But even more importantly, if that IS the problem, is there a way to make iDVD see the external burner?

Or you can download and intall Patchburn...

  • Can't get iDVD6 to work

I have Ilife08 installed on my machine and they work. I'm using imovie 6 but I can't get idvd 6 to work. I find idvd 7 takes longer and the icons are blurred. I would prefer to use idvd 6 but it will not boot. Even idvd 5 will not boot. Any ideas on how to get idvd 6 to work again.

Re: Can't get Mic to work? I'm using the Steelseries Siberias headset, with a standalone Zalman mic. I never unplugged them, I only reformatted from a cracked verion of Windows 7, to a legit version of Windows 7. The versions were actually the exact same, and now I regreat Formatting.

  • Can't start iDVD...

I've seen similar questions in the forum here for this problem, but nothing works so far...
I can't get iDVD to work correctly. I start it up, select & name a new project (Standard 4x3), and it brings up the 2 pane window and then hangs. In the past, if I've waited a long time (many hours), eventually it would start working. I shouldn't have to wait that long, though, so I'd like some serious help getting it to work. I've tried re-installing; deleting the preferences file; creating a new, clean account to run it; sharing a project from iMovie; and fixing the permissions. Nothing has worked, and I'm getting pretty frustrated.
Any new ideas? Anyone else had this problem & actually solved it?

Well, just after posting this, I think I've narrowed the problem down to Application Enhancer. Even with no modules enabled, it seems to hang iDVD. The only way to run iDVD is to use Application Enhancer's "Disable temporarily" mode, log out & log back in... I've e-mailed Unsanity about this, so we'll see what happens...
Of course, Application Enhancer is widely used, so there's probably something else in the mix or else I would think this problem would be more widespread...

  • Can't Open iDVD - only spinning beachball!

I can't get iDVD to open. I've let it sit for 10-15 minutes several times before force quitting. The current project is quite small, so it shouldn't be causing a problem.
I wish it wouldn't open the last project automatically.
    any ideas?

Your last project probably is glitched in some way. I have had this happen before. What you will want to do first is to delete the preferences file. Quit iDVD. Navigate to your home directory, then to Library/Preferences. Locate the file called com.apple.iDVD.plist. Delete it. Now restart iDVD. It should come up with no problem.
