  • I can't get Mail.app to open.

After I installed 10.6.8 the old mail icon from OSX 10.6.3 was still on the desktop so I trashed it. When I moved the new mail.app from the harddrive to the desktop, it wouldn't open. But the harddrive still had the mail icon in the application folder. So it looked like I might be trying to open two copies of the mail app at the same time? Anyway, after trying to move and trash extra copies of the mail.app, and twice reinstalling MacOSXUpdCombo 10.6.8 I now have just one icon of Mail.app on my desktop that still refuses to open. HELP! Please!
I'm using an iMac from 2008 or so using an Intel core2duo processor running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, 20" display. Model 8,1

This  didn't work, alas. I moved the desktop icon to the trash as suggested. When I tried to start Mail from the dock it gave me an error message saying it couldn't start up because the app was in the trash

  • Getting notification when the APP is closed (Android, iOS)

    Hi
I'v been searching for a while with no luck. Is there a way to get notifications even when the APP is not opened.
As I can some native APPs have some kind of notification system which works even if the APP is not opened.
Is there a way to do that with AIR?
    Thanks
    Behzad

an event is dispatched if your open app is closed
    NativeApplication.nativeApplication.addEventListener(Event.EXITING, onExit);
but it doesn't make sense to get notification of i-have-no-idea-what-you're-thinking when your app is already closed.

  • Can't get twitter notifications on twitter app

For some reason my twitter notifications are not working anymore. I've turned my phone on and off so many times, deleted the twitter app and reinstalled it numerous times, checked my notifications settings on both my phone and twitter app and they still ain't working which is really annoying. Plus twitter support is no help whatsoever, does anyone have any ways it can be fixed?

Check out this article > http://www.businessinsider.com/mountain-lion-twitter-notifications-2012-7
    As for twitter.com on Safari.
    Quit Safari.
Now open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/LIbrary/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go the move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari. Try twitter.com

  • How do I stop Messages notifications when the app is closed?

Messages have an annoying tendancy to still "come through" even after I've quit the program, popping up in the right hand corner of my screen until I attend to them.  How do I stop this from happening?  There are many times in the day when I'd like to not receive messages from contacts/friends/families and just concentrate on work.  I can turn my phone off, silence it, etc. to stop messages from coming through there, but on my computer, where I am working, turning off the device in question is not an option.  With Messages on Mavericks, quitting the program doesn't seem to do the trick.

    Alternative.
In Messages > Preferences > General Section.
Untick the "When I Quit, Set the Status to Off Line"
This will stop the IMAgent Support app "listening" to the servers for new messages.
It works best if there is a Buddy list account as well as iMessages (such AIM or Jabber).

  • Get mail notification when mail app is closed

Just wondering if I can get new mail notification when the mail app is closed (closed by cmd+Q)
I knew this was not possible in previous versions. not sure about Yosemite.
It might be good to be able to get such notifications similar to imessage/facetime/calendar as those apps need not to be opened while getting notifications.
    Thanks!

Normally, Mail has to be open.

  • Can't Get Mail When in a Call on iOS 5!?

    Hello all,
I recently upgraded my AT&T iPhone 4 to iOS 5. However, I did a clean upgrade and did not restore any of my settings. I have added all of my e-mail accounts. Two of which are Gmail accounts and a third which is a Microsoft Exchange account. Also note that the Gmail accounts were added as exchange as well. All 3 accounts are set to push.
Everything is running great - however, ever since the upgrade, if I am in a call (connected over 3G) and enter the Mail app, I get one error for each mailbox saying "Can't Get Mail: The connection to the server has failed." Curiously, if I turn on my WiFi while on the call still, the e-mail accounts sync. Even more baffling, is the fact that Safari can connect to the internet just fine, while in a call over 3G. But my mailboxes refuse to sync!
This is driving me crazy - since I have deleted and re-added two of the accounts now... I just don't know what else could be wrong. The phone is GSM, so it goes without saying that it should be fine, but more importantly, this problem was not at all present in 4.3.5.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

SOLUTION @ LAST. Decided to keep the community updated, in case someone else runs into this problem!
After several attempts to restore the device, and even start from scratch over the past day, and still having the same issue, I resorted to Recovery Mode.
Upon placing the device in Recovery Mode, and connecting to iTunes, I was prompted to re-download the new iOS 5 IPSW. After the download completed, iTunes restored the device from an earlier backup (one that was made while the issues were still happening).
After this was completed, and the device had completely synchronized, I again tested the Exchange account's ability to sync over 3G while in a call... IT NOW WORKS!
So, this leads me to believe that something was corrupt in the original iOS 5 IPSW that was downloaded on the new firmware's launch day. Maybe due to overloaded servers...
Also, I have now found that iCloud works much more seamlessly, along with WiFi sync, which now completes a full sync in a matter of seconds, as opposed to minutes.
Hope this info can be of use to those that are having this or other problems relating to iOS 5!

  • Help me fix my email when i get the message, server has failed , can not get mail

How do I fix my email when I keep getting the message, can not get mail, server connection has failed? In very plain basic english or even on youtube?

    Hey helpsusanplease,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with mail on your iPhone. The following article may help to resolve your issue:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3899
Try these basic troubleshooting steps first
    1. Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage (try any webpage). If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you are unable to load a webpage, follow these troubleshooting steps.
              - Try to use an alternate Internet connection if available:
                        1. Try a different Wi-Fi connection
                        2. If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fiand turn off Wi-Fi.
                        3. If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
    2. Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    3. Restart your iOS device.
    4. Delete the affected email account from your device.
              - Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
              - Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
              - Add your account again.
    * If you are only able to use your email account while connected to your home network, this may be a limitation put in place by your email service provider. For further support, please contact your email service provider directly.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • After installing IOS 5 can't get mail to work...

I have been having trouble installing IOS 5 on my Ipad and part of the problem may have been with my home computer... In any event, I finally was able to get it on but the result is a bit discouraging. All my apps are there, but I lost everything on them... not that there was much... but my main concern is that I can't get Mail to work... I go in settings and when I click on mail... it just goes back to the page with all the icons... I have tried reinitializing and all... but nothing works... Any idea what is the issue and how to fix it ?

First try rebooting your iPad.  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  If that does not help, you may need to restore your iPad in iTunes.  You can restore from a backup (assuming you have a backup to restore from).

  • How can I get Mail to capitalise the first letter of a sentence?

    Hello all,
this is my first time using apple Support Community.  i am a new apple user and have just got my first MacBookPro (its wonderful).  however, i am having some difficulties.
How can i get Mail to capitalize the first letter of a sentence and also capitalize 'i' as 'I' automatically?
Also, how can i get apps like Pages to do the same? and for that matter typing into internet sites like this one? look at the lack of automatic punctuation!!
Thank you all for any advice and tips you may have.
    Paul.

I don't think whether it's easier or not is really an issue.  The problem is that all of these wonderful technologies are taking away our understanding of how to communicate in writing.  It's not a matter of being lazy and not "wanting" to do it, but rather getting to a point where many people "can't" do it.
I certainly wasn't pointing any fingers.  I use a calculator (or computer if I happen to be on one at the time) to do the most basic math calculations.  I can be out to lunch with co-workers and we have to pull out a calculator to split a bill 4 ways.  I went through school at a time when calculators were not permitted.  So, at one time, I could have easily done all of that stuff in my head.  So far as math goes, my mind has turned to mush a long time ago.  I doubt I could work my way through a long division problem at this point... even if I sat there and really tried.
Computers were not generally consumer items when I was growing up.  So I didn't grow up in a world with spell checking.  I have certainly grown to use it though and I'm sure my ability to spell properly has diminished somewhat because of it.  I tend to be less careful when typing something out.  If I'm not sure of the spelling on something, I just let my computer either fix it or give me a suggestion for the corrected spelling.  Fortunately, I grew up having to rely on my own ability to spell, so with that foundation, I tend to do fairly well when it comes to spelling.
We're at a point now where systems can correct grammar and sentence structure.  I think all of these are great tools to help us out, but they shouldn't be used to take the place of actually knowing how to do things.  Having said that, I'm fairly sure that is exactly what will happen.  Just as today, I rely almost entirely on some form of electronics for everyday math, I'm sure people growing up today with expert systems able to correct everything will rely on those equally.

  • Can I setup Mail app to access Yahoo mail via IMAP?

Can I setup Mail app to access Yahoo mail via IMAP? I think that my iPhone is doing this, but what about the Apple Mail app on my Mac? I don't like the fact that the Mac downloads the e-mail messages and removes them from the server, therefore making them inaccessible from Yahoo's online mail or my iPhone.
I'd like to get to work just like my Mobile Me e-mail... Any thoughts?

There is an option in the 'Advanced' section of the account setup to delete the messages from the server after a specified period rather than immediately on download; you could leave them for a week or whatever, then they will still be there when the iPhone accesses them.

  • One of my iCloud accounts can't get mail

I have 2 iCloud accounts, with Mail.app on my Mac configured to check them both from my main user account. The primary email address is fine. The other one has problems. It used to be a Mac.com additional address (not an alias), the kind that used to cost $10 extra. I converted it to an iCloud address when I moved to iCloud, and it has mostly worked until recently. I'd get the occasional spinning gear next to the mailbox, but mail would eventually show up. Today, The spinning gear is non-stop, and the account can't get mail. To check, I tried to log in to iCloud online with this account, and the same thing happens, endless spinning gear. What is going on, and how can I fix this?

I am having this problem too, I called Apple about it and was told they were having server problems, some were working and still some werent, My server...p04-smtp.mail.me.com , is one of those that is still screwed, I was told that it shouldnt be very long til its fixed but if its not tomorrow, to call back. its something that we cant do anything about

  • Can't get Mail working properly

I just got my new MacPro this week, and it's really great except for I can't get Mail working right. I've set up my accounts and a few emails come through, though not many, and because it's been a week since I've been online, there should be many more than that. Also, I can't send any emails at all, no matter what I do. They will eventually go into my Sent box, but I've been sending them to myself to see if it's working, and they never come through. I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with the tech support for my ISP, and they told me that I'd have to talk to the Apple techs because they didn't have current info for *Mail 3.1*, the version I have, that the latest they had was for 2.something. So I called the Apple tech support and spent 2 hours on the phone with them, and they weren't able to help me get it going correctly either. It keeps giving me error messages such as Connection Failed, or Unable to Receive Mail, saying "there may be a problem with the mail server or network" and that "the connection to the server on ... port has timed out." I'm on DSL and am always online, so I know it's not the internet connection that's the problem. Can anybody give me some advice on what I should try? Any help will be gratefully appreciated!

Is your ISP Verizon, Demon, or Glocalnet, then it might be Apples biggest Leopard Bug in conjunction with these ISP:s POP-servers.
The one that randomly changes the settings in "advanced" from "password" to "APOP".
The visual result of this bug is that you will get a popup-box where Mail asks you to enter your password. (Which is useless entering, since the preference settings are changed.)
My advice counts only when you are supposed to use "password" as the correct setting in "Advanced" and in conjunction with some ISP:s.

  • How can I get mail to address addressees by their first name, first?

I like it that Mail is integrated with Contacts. But when I type a name in the To: section, it is always shown as last name, first name. How can I get Mail to address my friends as Gary Smith, not Smith Gary??

  • Is it possible to get Mail.app back?

    Hi
I have a Macbook Pro 13'' with Mountain Lion.
Since I bought it I have only used Outlook as a mail program and subsequently, I deleted mail.app with the use of CleanMyMac, since I'm on a 128gb ssd and I wanted to free up as much space as possible.
However, now I want to get mail.app and cal.app back because of recent problems with Outlook, but I can't seem to find any downloads.
Unfortunately, I can't re-install the whole OSX. So I'm looking for a solution were I can get Mail and Calender back without re-installing the OSX?
Is there anyone in the fora or at Apple HQ that can help?
And BTW, I've search the fora, only solutions involving snow leopard is available.
Thanks for putting in the effort to help me!

The ONLY way to reinstall Apple OS X pre-installed apps such as Mail and Calenedar is to use OS X Recovery
The Mail app itself is only 54MB and Calendar 47MB.
These apps are not available for individual download anywhere on the internet.
    You can't reinstall OS X?
That's a huge problem if you ever need to repair the startup disk. That requires OS X Recovery utilities.
Can you get to an Apple Strore? If so, they may be able to help you restore OS X which reinstalls the apps for you.
