Can I get more memory added to my laptop in an applestore?

My mac book pro laptop has really slowed down and one of the guys in my local Apple Store said I needed more memory.  Please note this was not at the main genius bar, but the advice came from someone who helped answer a few questions for me when I just dropped in, without an appointment.  This chap said that Apple Stores sell memory but do not like to fit it, and gave me a number of an external local company who do repairs etc. on macs..  to be honest I am not comfortable about having my mac tampered with by anyone else other than Apple.. and find it hard to believe they do not sell & fit extra memory for their customers.. if it they may charge a bit more other an external company for this..
I would welcome anyone's help with this question..

upgrading RAM is simple to do your self.
everything you need to find what you need, videos to how to do it, and purchase much cheaper then through Apple

can i get more memory for my mac pro as its only 1gb 10.6.8 version

you want to ask in the macbook pro forum I assume.
regardless, yes you can and the model year (2008?) or MacBook Pro X,Y (number)
www.macsales.com/memory is a good place to check what is available.
I thought 2GB was req'd and 4GB would be strongly recommended for 10.6 and above.

It will Free up existing memory... But it will not Add Extra memory.

  • Need to delete whatever I can to get more memory...

...and I have no idea where to begin. I have only 5 of 38 GB left. I NEVER use the bulk of the applications that were loaded on this iBook when I got it and would love to start deleting those. DO I just drag and drop the icon to trash or is there a more complicated process for removing these apps?

    Hi kristin,
as a first step you should run some routine system maintenance: Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System maintenance.
Next run Monolingual and delete all language packs you do not need.
These two steps should gain 500+ MBs of hard disk space.
As a last step chack whether you need all the iApps. When you go to /Library/Application Support you can check how mauch disk space the iApps need for their support files. LiveType alone takes up more then 8 GB and iDVD needs another 1.8 GBs.

  • I bought my 20" iMac in Nov of 2007 and when I try to purchase the upgrade for lion I'm told I need 2GB of memory and I only have 1GB.  How can I get more?  I am currently running snow leopard

Trying to upgrade to Lion on my 20" iMac that I bought in Nov. 2007.  Currently I'm running on MAC OS X version 10.6.8.  When I tried to buy the upgrade I got a response that Lion requires 2 GB of memory and I only have 1 GB.  How can I get more memory and will my computer be compatible with Lion when I do get more memory?

Yes you can install more RAM. Up to 6 GBs. Two - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMMs. For the maximum use one 4 GB and one 2 GB. Otherwise install a pair of 2 GB modules for a total of 4 GBs.
You can purchase suitable RAM at DataMem or OWC. OWC also has video tutorials on installation.

  • Can i buy more memory

Can I get more memory for my ipod touch 4g.

    Hi,
All Apple products are closed (unopenable) so they cannot be opened, and that means you can't put any new items inside.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do i get more memory on my mac book air? is says that i can add 2 more gig how?

how do i get more memory on my mac book air? is says that i can add 2 more gig ??? or wat files can i delete

Macbook Air memory is soldered to the logicboard.
You can only get 4GB or 8GB (2012 Models) in the Air when you order it that way.  Otherwise, you're stuck with 2GB.
Unless you're talking about hard drive space - then it is upgradeable - click HERE to see which one corresponds to your model.

I used to have eight genius mixes and now I have four...I changed the genres around and nothing happened...I've added many more songs since it changed from 8 to 4 mixes...how can I get more again and why did it go from 8 to 4? I had the Hardcore mix and a rap mix and classic rock and grunge mixes...now I don't...I kinda want those back...the mixes I have now make no sense as most the songs on each do not correlate AT ALL to the genre mix they have been placed in. If someone could give me an answer that'd be great.

    1. Don't confuse "Apple ID" with iTunes Account ID.  You can have many Apple IDs but only one iTunes account active at a time.
    2. If you "changed" your iTunes account ID, you actually have 2 accounts - one under the old name plus the new name.
    3. You can't merge the accounts - they remain separate.  Apps purcahsed under the old account name will update ONLY WHEN THE PHONE IS SIGNED IN TO THE OLD ACCOUNT NAME  and visa versa.
    4. Likewise, you can sync only the apps, music, media purchased under the account the phone AND iTunes are signed in to.

I think you misunderstand... iCloud backups are stored in the cloud and not on the PC. So, if you do an iCloud backup, it won't take up room on the PC.
But, if you want to transfer the iTunes purchases over, set up Home Sharing. Also, see this link.

How can I add more memory to my iPod touch?

You are not able to add memory to a iPod Touch.
The only way to get more memory is to buy one with a larger capacity.

buy an external HD   1TB for $60
NO notebook is a mass storage device, so dont try to turn it into one, it doesnt work that way.
Unless youre using it every couple weeks, its static data and should be on an external HD
In the case of a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro Retina with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.  You should never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their computers internal HD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your macbook has a HD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your computer to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.

  • While sync : can't allocate more memory !!!(WCE)

    Hi All,
I'm synchronizing (/Orace/mSync.exe) several MB of data (not much more of 10 MB) on a CASSIOPEIA E-200 (64 MB) with a SD Card extension of 128 MB. While synchronizing, main memory decreases dramatically (main memory, not external memory) and finally i get the message:
    -2000 can't allocate more memory -2000:0
Other synchronizations with a smaller amount of data are working ok.
It is posible for a sync of ~10 MB to drain >40MB of main memory?? !!
By now, i'm using the SD Card directory to store the synchronized client DB, but this is not enough to solve the problem.
I think that temporary files and processes on main memory are involved in this problem. It is posible to use memory cards for this??
    Some ideas????
    Thanks in advance.
    Andris

    Humm,
I think the problem may be the size of a single table replication.
The replication of 10000 registers from this table is working ok, but replicating 25000 i get the error ("Can't allocate more memory").
Anyone knows a limitation in the number of registers or size of a table replication????!!!
    Thanks!!

  • Can't get new photos added to existing iPhoto albums to sync with iPhone

I tried talking about this in the iTunes area, but there was no response:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20660036#20660036
I thought I'd drop by the iPhone discussion area next.
The problem in a nutshell is that I can't get new photos added to iPhoto albums to sync with my iPhone 5. I can even unselect the albums, sync, see the albums deleted on the iPhone, select the albums again, sync, see the albums recreated - but the recreated albums don't include the photos I added yesterday.
I don't know if this is an iTunes 11 bug, an iPhoto bug or an iPhone bug.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    doug

Yes, but which album will be empty?
Anyway, as soon as I saw how creating albums locally on the iPhone actually worked I said to myself, "This is not reasonable" and as much as I dislike iPhoto decided to keep doing it there until that feature is improved.
It seems like an obvious thing to improve. Then the albums can sync between the iPhone, iPhoto and other iOS devices more like "it just works" (which it doesn't do now).

Can't find Genius in the store to turn it on (have searched on Google for help!) Can't get my recently added to synch either. Should I be cross with Windows 8 or iTunes???

    Hi sandierocks!
You can find more information about the Genius features of iTunes here:
