Can I get music off of a broken iPod Video, 30GB?

This isn't detrimental, I have an iPhone as well as an iPod touch and have all the music I need. But I found my broken iPod video today, and it hasn't worked for a few years. I dropped it about three and a half years ago, cracked the screen, and ever since it's been fudged up. If I plug it in, it'll try and start up, then shut itself down, so it's *trying* to work.
I'm simply curious to see what music was on there, so it's not a big deal if it's not possible. I know I had over three thousand songs on there, and they're all bound to be terrible, but it's fun and also horrifying to look back on my previous taste in music.
If anybody has any solutions, or ideas, let me know, but like I said, not in a panic, not taking it to be repaired or anything.

I don't think the iPod's coming up on my computer. I just plugged it in, and this is my old crappy computer since my PC decided to crap out, but there's no sign of it being recognized so I'm assuming it's probably a lost cause, but oh well.

The only suggestion I have is to try and force the iPod into Disk Mode.

My Ipod nano had a cracked screen soon after I first got it and the screen was replaced.

Old laptop died, can't get music off iPod

So I tried to follow the instructions for backing up my iPod, but I couldn't get it to work.
My old laptop died, but my iPod is fine. I want to transfer my songs from my iPod to the new laptop. My purchased music moved over just fine, but I can't get my CDs (which were ripped as mp3s) over to the new laptop. I'm using Windows, and when I mount the iPod as a hard drive, I only see the following folders:
Calendars
Contacts
Notes
iPod_Control (hidden)
Under iPod_Control, I have Accessories, Artwork, Device, iTunes, and Music subfolders.... the Music subfolder doesn't have any of the file names... any idea on how to quickly fix this? Thanks!

my iphone 4 has just stopped working and the power button has been broke for weeks so i cant even restart the phone. Also it is not being recognised when i plug it into my computer. Is there anyway at all that i can get my phots from the broken phone?

If it is not being detected by the computer, then there is no way to get data off the device.
If PhotoStream was enabled on the device, all pictures taken should already be there and can be synced to another iOS device.
If the device has been used as designed, pictures taken with it would have regularly been copied off to a computer so any loss should be minimal.

I am trying to get some music (from a CD) off my ipod to teh laptop..I have set computer for manual, etc. When I look in ipod music library they are not lsited by artist as in itunes so i don't know what to drag and drop. HELP!!!!

Itunes will not allow you to transfer music from the Ipod to Itunes however their are workarounds if you require access to the data. Here is one such clumsy workaround (or you could use some third party software)
1) If Itunes is already installed disk use may need to enabled so you can see the Ipod in my computer. Itunes hides your ipod from windows otherwise.
2) Make sure you can view hidden files. In MY computer go to tools>folder options>view>show hidden files and folders.
3) Windows should see the ipod and your music should be on your ipod in several hidden folders. To be safe I would copy it all to say your desktop.
4) Install Itunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and the Ipod updater http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ (if you don't already have it installed)
After that drag the copied folder to Itunes (drag and drop or in Itunes (File>add folder to library)
You may need to authorise your new computer by playing it in the library first.

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not work with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

The syncing of music is not a true sync process - not really a sync at all. It is a transfer process. No iTunes content in your iTunes library will ever be touched or removed by syncing an iDevice.
Where is your old computer - the one with your iTunes library that was used to sync with your iPhone? Why didn't you transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer along with all other important data such as documents, photos, etc.?
If your old computer is still available, transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer per the instructions included with this link. This will prevent any iTunes content from being removed from your iPhone with the first sync with iTunes on your new computer.

How can I get music onto my 2nd gen iPod Touch?

My mum recently gave me her old iPod, a 2nd gen. My sister tried to upgrade it up to iOS 5 but couldn't.
Every time I plug my iPod into charge it pops up in iTunes saying, "This iPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.1 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest vesion of iTunes."
Alls well saying that, but my problem is I'm running on version 10.4.11 Snow Tiger on a MacBook Pro.
When I go to download the iTunes it states that I need version 10.6.11 Snow Leopard.
My mother and sister both have Snow Leopard and Snow Lion but they will not let me use their iTunes.
What I need to know if there is anyway that I can get music onto my iPod without purchseing songs from the iTunes store.
Can anyone help?

I did not sync my iphone3 music to my computer. Thought I did it properly but did not. New at this stuff. Now my IT person installed and configured my new iphone4 and my music is on old phone. Anyway to get it to new phone. Help.:)

Set up your new phone as if it were the old one. Settings, mail, mobile me, same email same password that you used on old phone. You can still sync the old phone to iTunes library. You may have to click on picture of phone on the left & click on back up iPhone. You'll see songs, contacts & calendar downloading in apple slot at the top. When done connect new phone. Authorize computer put in apple ID when that screen comes up & that should allow both phones to share the library. If you use the same ID the same information will be on both phones.

I hope you take this as an opportunity to learn a very important lesson: Back up your iTunes library as soon as you can after resolving this situation because right now you are only one glitch of your iPod away from losing your music entirely.
Many people come to the Discussions having lost their music in just such situations and, believe me, it's not a happy time for anyone.
If you place any importance on your playlists and the data they depend on, you will want to include your iTunes Library files in your back-up regimen as well.

Can't get music off ipod into itunes

I have an ipod touch that will not transfer songs onto itunes on new computer. I added the computer to the network so that's not the problem. I have tried "tranfer purchases", and only some of them are added to my itunes library. I have other music on my computer that I want to add to my ipod, but it keeps telling me that it will only erase everything on it and then add my itunes library. I don't want to loose everything that's on it, since it will only partially transfer the music.
Does this description of my problem make sense?

The music sync is ONE WAY - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases. You can transfer itunes purchases only: Without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases
The ipod will sync with ONE computer only. When you sync to another, it will indeed erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
You should move everything from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old computer, to your new one.
The ipod touch is not a storage device or backup device. It is intended to mirror the selected content of your computer.

I synced my iTunes music library to my iPad by mistake and now want to remove it. There is nothing about removing music from the device in the operating manual and I can't find anything in the support section on the Apple website. I would prefer a solution that didn't involve removing music from the iTunes library itself.

I just purchased a new iMac today and I have all my music on my other iMac.
I used to plug my iPod into the new computers I got and copy the songs onto it.
But my iPod got stolen.

Can't get music from my CDs to Ipod!! Please help!

I am SOOOO frustrated. I told the sales person I needed something easy. Told him I wanted an MP3 player for music only. He told me the IPod Touch (4th) would be the best and easiest. I've had it three days, and still don't have a song transferred to it.
I first tried Windows media player. Couldn't get that to work. Contacted my son (lives in another state, so can't help me) and he said the Apple IPod wouldn't work with Windows media player. He recommended I download ITunes.
I spent six hours last night, and still couldn't get ITunes to work. I got it downloaded (I think), and got it to recognize my IPod. But no music! The tutorial says when you put a CD in the computer drive, the songs will automatically come up, and you can transfer them to the IPod. I put the CD in, and...nothing! I tried SEVERAL times.
I kept getting a message that said ITunes was not my default setting, and did I want to change it. Several times I clicked the link to do so, it looked like everything was checked for ITunes, and I said save. But it didn't fix whatever is wrong, and I kept getting the message.
I am so frustrated that I would really like to return the expensive IPod and find something easier to use - however my son said they may not take it back, or they may charge me a restocking fee.
Another quick note...I've purchased three songs (alas I feel I may be listening to three songs for the rest of my life)...and the IPod seems VERY sensitive. If I even touch it while a song is playing, it will stop, and I need to hit the play button again. Is there a setting that will help this?

- Did you successfully import the CDs into your iTunes library? If not go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Import Music Video and more and following the instructions for importing the music.
- After that follow the instrction in iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod... for instrction for syning the music to the iPod.
