Can I get my money back? (UK)

Hi all, I'm hoping for advice here. I live in the UK, so I could do with knowing what my rights are here. Anyway, here is the situation:
I own an Apple Cinema Display 20. It is less than a year old. I really dislike it, and I would like my money back. I don't want a repair or a replacement.
I have about 3 problems. One of them is something I just dislike a LOT, and the other two are actual faults. Here they are:
1) The screen looks very dirty, even although it is perfectly clean. They obviously used some kind of coating on the screen, and it gives the screen a grainy/sandy/dusty look. (NOTE: I know it's the screen and not what I'm looking at, because the "dirt" stays still when I move the image around).
2) The screen has terrible image retention. If I display something for a minute or more, and then I look at something dark grey (a scene in a movie, or a game etc..) I can still see outline of the previous image clearly.
3) The brightness of the screen is not uniform. There are vertical bands up and down the screen, where it is brighter or darker than other areas.
The last two I consider faults with the screen, and the first one is the reason why I don't want a replacement or a repair. I really would like my money back so that I can just buy another screen. These problems aren't too bad when you are just looking at webpages, but if I was just looking at web pages, I would have bought a normal 20" widescreen monitor for about £120. This screen cost me £400, and these kinds of faults are not acceptable at all. If I was going to "just put up with it", I would put up with it on a normal cheaper monitor that only costs about £150 - NOT on a monitor like this which cost £400.
So anyway, would anyone please be able to tell me if I am legally entitled to my money back or not?
p.s. I would rather not get into a discussion about anything else, because last time that happened here, I was sidetracked by irrelevant and incorrect information. Also: I have tried 4 other monitors, two different PC's, and two different graphics cards, so I am 100% positive that these are faults of the screen and not anything to do with the PC it is plugged into.
p.p.s: I would also question whether it is truly Windows XP compatible, as stated. I cannot control the colour or contrast as none of the on screen controls work in XP. Luckily I can do it via my graphics card, but that is not the point.

Thank you. I will have to sell it on Ebay and hopefully get some money for it I'm so sad about it. I hate losing money like that.
It actually seemed fine in the fist 2 weeks, but this image retention problem seems to have got worse and worse in time. I can now barely do anything for more than a couple of minutes and it's burnt in. And I can see it now if I play a movie. Luckily it goes after a few minutes more.
My main problem is the dirty look though, and I didn't notice that until a month or so after I bought the screen. Some things really bring out the worst of it, and most of the time it isn't noticeable. But if I'm playing a game that looks bad on the screen, the entire time I am playing that game will look bad.
Oh well

    Please, help me :)

Your best bet would be to try resetting the password to the account that you would like to use via iForgot
Once you log in to that account change the email address to anything, it can even be fake its just a placeholder
After you do that you will be free to change your old email address on your appleID to the new one that is now free to be used as it is no longer attached to the other account.

  • HT204266 I bought an app for 4.99 and it not the app I needed. Can I get my money back or a credit?  It didn't do what I thought it would do.

I bought a 5 dollar app that didn't do what I understood it would do. Can I get my money back or even a credit? The app I bought I wanted it to zip a file video so I could get the video off my iPhone cause it took up all my hard drive space and it wouldn't zip a file from my phone like I understood it did. So since then I've found a free izip that did what I needed. Is there any way to get my money back and or return the app?F

Here is a link to the return policy.

  • My 3 year old has downloaded a £70 app can I get my money back? He has somehow purchased, 'vault of gems' on Mini Pets. It seems unbelievable that an upgrade to a kids app is £70!!! I suppose this is how these robbers make money.. Any help appreciated.

My 3 year old and I downloaded, 'mini pets'. app. Whilst playing he managed to purchase a 'vault of gems' for a staggering £70!!!!
Can we get our money back? I can't believe there was no security or the iTunes password to submit and how is an app upgrade £70 these people are rob dogs.
    Please help....

    JohnGeorge,
Apple allows apps to list themselves as "Free" if the initial download is free, even if the app has kid-oriented inducements for costly in-app purchases.  The in-app purchases are almost always ridiculous, over-priced game accessories, of which your example of "vault of gems for £70" is right up there.  It is way too caveat emptor for my taste, but each consumer can form their own opinion on that.
To Apple's credit, they have a good record of granting refunds providing you explain the extenuating circumstances (purchase by a minor) and only ask once.  Contact iTunes Customer Service.
And immediately, you need to place restrictions on the devices.  The restrictions are off by default (caveat emptor!), so you need to take action to place them.  See this document:  iOS: Understanding Restrictions

  • HT4098 How can I get my money back from app store when I did not renew my app

I didn't not renew the app that I never really use and now the apple store charge me from my card. How can I get my money back and what number I should call because I totally lost at apple store and don't know what to do. This is really frustrated that apple have this kind of customer service... could someone help?

These are user-to-user forums, they are not monitored by Apple (there are too many forums/threads/messages for that to happen).
If the apps aren't working as described in the store then you could the report a problem link from your purchase history : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1933

  • I have bought un-useful app which is an image converter app. It did not mention unsupported formats can I get my money back?

    Dear Apple support team

    Refunds -
All sales are final. the App Store is not a try it and return it situation.
Apple sometimes gives a one-time per account refund. If this is the app which you wish to use your possible one refund with use the Report a Problem link in the emailed receipt that you receive on the purchase in 24 to 48 hours to ask for the refund.
    If your purchase was in the last few weeks you may also use this link to report a problem;

  • HT204266 If an app doesnot do what it says it will, can I get my money back ?

If I purchase an app and it doesn't work can I get my money back? How do I go about it?

You've tried deleting and re-downloading the app, and tried contacting the developer (there should be a contact link on the app's description page in the store) ?  If you don't get a reply then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that app and use the 'Report a Problem' link (iTunes support should reply within, I think, 24 to 48 hours).
Some people have had a problem with the 'report a problem' link (it's been taking people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) - if it does that to you then try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

    Hi...
Apple's policy states that, "all sales are final" >  iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
But since you are not getting any help from the developer, you can use the email form to contact Apple and ask for a refund >  Apple - Support - Mac App Store - Contact Support.
    No guarantees.

  • Can I get my money back or a new computer?

Hi I have problem with my laptop. I bought it in april 2009. Since that time it has been broken 3 times (doesn`t want to turn on), it was sent to service 3 times because of this reason (everything was deal with toshiba service without help from the shop where I bought the laptop they gave me 1 year warranty). I have international warranty (for 2 years) now and my network card is broken. In Polish low when 2 different things get broke I can ask for a new computer (without defect) or money back. Can I get my money back? How to do this?

    Hi,
To be honest, i don't think that someone can say you if they return you money or replace it. It's user to user forum. But in my opinion, you won't get your money back but they can replace it... You contact the Asp (service center) in Poland
