i have an inspiron 8600, and my itunes wont open, it just started doing this. if i uninstall itunes and then reinstall it is there any way for me to get all of my songs back without re-paying for them?

Yes you can get your music back IF you make a copy of them all into another folder.
For example on my computer:
1. I would go to My Documents (Open)
2. (Open) My Music
3. (Open) I-Tunes
4. (Open) I-Tunes Music
5. Push (Hold) ctrl and press "a"
6. All should be selected
7. Push (Hold) ctrl and "c"
8. Create new folder "BUZZ"
9. Paste inside the new folder "BUZZ"

They are only where you put them, if you did not download them on the computer or transfer them from the iDevice, there is no logical expectation for them to be on the computer.

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting those tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those songs and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

You don't download iTunes by connecting your phone to iTunes and yes of course, by syncing your phone with your husbands computer, of course you will have lost all your stuff and you will have his.
When you connect to iTunes, you sync.
To get back all your things, then you need to sync your phone to the computer that you used originally to set your phone up - if this is your computer, then connect your phone to that and sync it with iTunes on that and you will get your stuff back, but when you connect to iTunes you sync and don't download.
Ringtones should download automatically to your phone and if not, if you are getting them on your computer, then download them to your computer with your iTunes on and double click to get the MP3 file to open in iTunes and then sync your phone to your computer and you will get the ringtone on your phone.

I cloud worked fine for a while on the latest version of windows then threw up an error since then I can longer get the programme to run . I've reinstalled itunes but this doesnt help any ideas

It maybe worthwhile trying to uninstall and then reinstall the icloud control panel, if the issue is with your outlook.

At present I have no power to the Gen 7, so need to get some power to it I think. I pressed the buttons as you suggested, but nothing is showing up at this point. Thank you for your response as the more I can rule out before I take it back the better I think.

Computer Crashed - How Can I Get My Songs Back?

My computer crashed so I had to reinstall itunes. Now when I plug in my ipod shuffle it tells me my ipod is linked to another library and asks if I want to replace all of my songs with the songs from this library. I have over 200 songs on my ipod, many that I bought and I don't want to lose them all. Is there any way that I can get the songs on my ipod shuffle onto my itunes?

Are the songs only on the pod? It also sounds like from the urgency that you don't have a backup. Computers crash or hardware fails all the time, this is why backups are soooo important. Lecture over, sorry about that.

I did this last night, and copied all the music from old laptop onto new one. But there was still a lot of stuff missing, mainly from my own CDs that I'd ripped. Also I'm still getting the icon on my iPhone that the music is on the iCloud. This doesn't suit me because it will cost me a fortune to download each song by cellular when I'm out driving. I need all my stuff on my iphone. Do you know how I can get it to download everything i need apart from clicking on every album and selecting "download" from cloud one at a time?

My computer has crashed several times since I bought my first ipod in 2005. Recently, it crashed so badly that my fella who fixed it just wiped everything off it and reinstalled things. I have a new ipod now and just got my computer back. I log in to itunes, register my ipod, and, its bad enough that everytime my computer crashes and is fixed that itunes thinks I am connecting yet another computer to my account (it believes I have four computers/devices but I have only ever had one ipod and one computer simultaneously),. but on top of that, all my songs listed in my purchase history are not in my library. Hundreds of songs.
How can I download them again? I was told in the Apple Store to deauthorize the computer and reauthorize it and it should begin downloading my previous purchases into my library. I tried that, but to no avail.

It is the users responsibility to maintain a backup of their files.
If you have failed to keep a backup, that is not good.
If the content is on your iDevice and it was purchased via iTunes, connect the device (DO NOT SYNC) then select File > Transfer Purchases.
If the content is on the device but was not purchased via iTunes, you're out of luck mostly. Do a google search, you can find utilities that will allow you to extract the content.
If you are in the US and running iTunes 10.3 or later, there is an option to redownload previously purchased iTunes content. To do this, in iTunes select Purchased, then at the bottom select Download Previously Purchased. There are options for Music, Apps, and iBooks. Select the "Not in My Library" option and download what you want.

There are a few reasons why you might receive this message after installing iTunes. You may need to verify that iTunes has been completely removed before trying to install again. See this article for the steps to completely remove and reinstall iTunes:

Ok, here is the deal. I purchased about 360 songs from the itunes store. My ipod is lost and my computer crashed. I know that apple keeps a record of each song i purchased because when i try to purchase a song that i have purchased in the past, i get the message that says that i have already purchased it. it is very frustrating that is so hard. i paid for the songs so how to i get them back from itunes??? Am i the only one with this issue? Ho can it be that the people at apple have not thought of a solution for this problem. i want my songs and it shouldn't be this hard. can anyone help????

Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications. It's your responsibility to make backup copies (as iTunes itself advises) in case something goes wrong with your system, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places. If your hard drive was erased and you don't have a backup of your purchased items, and don't have them on another iPod, you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your tracks.
If you have your tracks backed up, post back and someone here can help you get them restored. Otherwise you can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service (select the "Music Purchases" or "Video Purchases" category, as appropriate, then "Lost or Missing Items". Then you'll see a button that says "Email Us") and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.

the music i had in my iphone wasnt bought from the itunes store i just copied them from my blackberry, i was having trouble with my phone so i decide to put it into recovery mode and once that was done, i did a restore and everything came back except my songs. Is there a way i can get them back?

Unless you've got a copy of them somewhere no - media content in the iPod/Music and Videos apps are not included in the device's backup.
