It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.

It's most likely not you, no matter what they say. I have noticed a LOT of fraud with itunes, even with my own account. One time I caught them doing a database restore. Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
