Can I get OS 9 free?

Since this OS is really old and I am wondering if it is free from Apple? I have a 12 year old iMac that used to have OS 9 but one of my stupid friend put OS X in it and it really slow to do anything!

Mac OS 9.2.1 is not available from Apple as a freebie, unfortunately.  But... what discs do you have that came with your iMac?  Depending on your model, you could have had an installation CD of Mac OS 8.5 onwards that should have come with your machine.
If a disc didn't come with your machine, I understand your interest.  But all iMacs can run Mac OS 9.2.1, and if you can find a copy for sale... buy it!  Should be cheap enough by now!
Then, when you get it, follow this URL to update it to 9.2.2:

Good luck!

HOW CAN I GET A PLAIN FREE BACKGROUND FOR FIREFOX?

Can you explain what you want, and please don't use all caps.
Firefox has personas that go behind the toolbars and make them hare to read, are you looking for a plain pastel background for toolbars.
You're on a Mac so it does not involve Window Aero transparency.
Where is this background supposed to be.
I color my toolbars so I can identify one profile from another

  • If i buy a macbook pro 2 months before the new operating system comes is released, can i get it for free?

If i buy a macbook pro 2 months before the new operating system comes is released, can i get it for free?

Generally once Apple gives the official release date, then Macs have become available for up to date pricing.  As long as just the season has been stated, there is no guarantee that Macs purchased during the season in question will get up to date pricing.  So watch http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/ or http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ the day that the release date is announced.   Past performance is no guarantee of future returns.  Thankfully since 10.7's release Apple's full fledged releases have only been $20 USD, and updates are free to the full fledged release.  I.e. 10.7.1 to 10.7.5 are updates to 10.7.
10.8.1 to 10.8.4 are updates to 10.8.  It was only with 10.6 and earlier the distribution for each full release was at least $99 and up to date were around $20 going back to 10.2.  10.6 is though available on the Apple Store for only $20.

Sorry, no. They are different versions for different operating systems.

  • I got my MBP on june 16 so how can i get lion for free?

i got my macbook pro for birthday and i read that if you purchased it after june 6th you can get lion for free but how do i do that?

The wording on this page seems convoluted to me:
"Users must request their Up-to-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchase of their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 6, 2011 and the date when Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from Lion’s official release date to make a request."
If I purchased my shiny new Macbook Pro on June 11, according to the first part of the statement, I must request my Up-to-Date upgrade by July 11, yet the second part of the statement states I will have 30 days from Lion's official release date to make my request.
I am hoping the second statement is the correct one. It would be helpful if Apple fixed this inconsistency...

  • How can I get imovie for free on my iPad?

So at my school everybody can be able to get imovie for free but for me it doesn't. It keeps popping up to have to buy it and I was wondering how I can get it for free?

The iWork apps for a Mac and for iOS devices are different, they are different operating systems.
If your iPad was activated after 1st September 2013 (and you are using the same account that was used to activate the iPad) then you should be able to download the apps for free in its App Store app. If it was activate before that date (or you are not using the same account) then you will need to pay to download the apps.

  • If I have iPhoto on my Macbook Air can I get it for free on iPhone?

I've had iPhoto installed on my Macbook Air since I had it in December and have just updated to the new version for free. Now can I get iPhoto on my phone for free or do i still have to pay the £2.99?

    No.
iPhoto on your Mac runs on OS X and you can have it on any Mac you own
iPhoto on your iPad runs on iOS and can run on any iPad or iPhone that you own.

  • Can you get iLife for free on a used mac?

I just bought a used macbook pro yesterday and i was dissappointed to see that it didn't have iLife on it. Doesn't Apple claim that all new macbooks come with iLife? The macbook pro i have is a recent model, the macbook pro is from 2011. I thought iLife should have been on it. i'm very dissapointed because im into songwriting and I wanted to use garageband. My laptop came installed with OS X 10.8.3 so i think it should've had ilife with it. is there a way i could get ilife for free?

    1. This applies to new computers. The previous owner of an used one may have deleted it.
    2. If it originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, install it from the computer's original disks, or if desired, erase the drive and install a new OS. If it shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, open the Mac App Store, sign in, and click on the Purchases tab; if you aren't given the option to accept it, contact Apple.

I have Iphone 5 purchased in US in March 2013. the screen got accidently Broken. Can I get it replaced in India ?

Nobody here on a public user forum can tell you that.  You need to take the phone to your nearest store and ask them directly how much it will cost.

  • I have bought Keynote on my ipad can i get it for free on my mac?

Hi, I have bout keynote, pages and numbers on my Ipad 4th gen. Should i be able to get it for free on my mac?

Not unless the Mac OS X version would normally be free. There's no credit in the Mac App Store for having purchased the iOS version of an application; the developer needs to create the two separately.

  • I had iMovie and iPhoto now i reset computer and it is asking for me to pay again how can i get it for free in my imac

Rest computer now imovie and iphoto are gone how can i get it back without paying again....

What do you mean you "reset the computer?" Please be very specific, remember we are not there to see what you did.
Also unless you did a erase adn install they are both still there, probably safely in the Applications folder.

  • Can't get a problem free Time Machine backup

I cannot get a clean first time backup to an external hard drive using Time Machine.
I have a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 Macbook Pro and a 2TB Western Digital external HD. The drive is partitioned to .5/1.5 sizes. The backup is 1.5TB. It is formatted as (extended) journaled. I have erased the partition several times and repeatedly tried to get a clean backup to no avail.
I have used Disk Utility to check my internal hard drive for any problems and it is OK before starting a backup
When Time Machine completes the first backup, I use Disk Utility to check for problems.
The error messages I get are:
    Keys out of order
    Invalid key length
The volume BackupDrive could not be verified completely
    Volume repair complete
Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required
Error: Disk utility can’t repair this disk. Backup as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files
    Another error message:
Mac OS X can’t repair the disk “BackupDrive.”
You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can’t save changes to files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can.
I have removed the com.apple.timeMachine.plist from the preferences an restarted. Still the same results.
    Any suggestions?
I think Disk Utility is a toy, compared to DiskWarrior. To date, Apple hasn't released the information required to create a new DiskWarrior that will work with the new macBook Pros.

    Update
    Changed the cable.
    Changed the port
    Erased BackupDrive partition
Ran First-Aid. Came back with no errors. "Volume BackupDrive appears to be OK.
Used Time Machine to backup MacBook Pro Internal HD
Ran First-Aid. Came back with no errors. "Volume BackupDrive appears to be OK.
    Ran First-Aid a second time
    Incorrect number of extended attributes
Incorrect number of Access Control Lists
    Invalid leaf record count
    Invalid volume file count
    Invalid volume directory count
    Invalid volume free block count
The volume BackupDrive could not be repaired after 3 attempts
Error. Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Backup, reformat and restore your backed up files.
This is driving me nuts. I have been an Apple guy ever since I got a IIE. I have never experienced anything like this. I have trouble believing I purchased two Western Digital external drives that have failed. Since my MBP continually comes back clean, I can only think that the problem is with Disk Repair Utility.
