Can I get purchased music back??

So my Mac HD crashed a week ago and I have since installed a new HD. Of course I didn't back up any of my music... why would I? I have a Mac!!!
I have read on multiple sites that Apple will give you one "free pass" so that if you lose everything, they will let you re-download your purchased music once only. I contacted Apple and that was not the case. As itunes policy states, which I am aware of, "it is not our responsibility to back up your files". Needless to say I will not be purchasing any more music from itunes.
Has any one else had any luck with getting a "free pass" from Apple?

Same answer as your other post asking the same question.
