Can I get QuickLook to work as it did on 10.6?

Perhaps some 101 stuff here, but I am trying to regain some characteristics of QuickLook from 10.6.
1) Is QuickLook part of Preview (I think so)?
2) I want two things back: in grid view, names shown for each image; and all images shown at max height/width when individually selected from grid.
I think the latter may be easy, because when an image is selected, it first (most of the time) shows full screen, but immediately reduces to whatever size the program wants to show it at. So I think the code is there.
I would replace 10.9 Preview with 10.6 if I could find it and if it would work. Lacking that, I would like to poke at the parameters - com.apple.??? - in 10.9 if I could find them. Lacking that, I would get an alternative program if I knew of one.

1) Open a folder.
2) Select all images.
3) Press the space bar.
4) Set 'caps lock' ON!
5) Select any image, which will then replace the grid, and will (most often) appear some size determined by the app.
6) Press the 'option' key, and the image will expand to the max size possible in the window.
Note that normally in Mavericks, if you release the 'option' key, the image would return to the smaller size. Having 'caps lock' on leaves the image expanded when you release 'option'. It is two more steps for each image displayed than it was in Snow Leopard, but at least it works.
