Can I get Voice Memos out of iPhone without adding them to my Music Library

I don't want Voice Memos in my music library. Is there any way to get them out of the iPhone? Why can't I see the iPhone in the Finder when I connect it to my Mac? I want to navigate its file system directly & get my Voice Memos.

Because the iPhone does not support disk mode as is supported with most iPods.
The only option that is supported for transferring voice memos to your computer is syncing with iTunes. You can transfer the voice memos out of iTunes followed by deleting them from your iTunes library.
There are some paid 3rd party utilities that may provide for this.

  • I can't get voice memos off itunes iPhone 4

iTunes 10, Iphone 4. I have deleted the voice memos from the Library>music but they are still there under Devices>iPhone>Music. They are also not on my iPhone when I launch the Memos app. I have tried checking and unchecking the "include voice memos" and have sync'd after checking and unchecking. I am out of ideas and have not found any help googling. Anyone else run into this problem?

I'm having this issue as well.
I have a number of voice memos that follow my iPhone back ups every single time i upgrade my phone.
I have about 10 voice memos dating back to 2010 that are not visible on my phone via the voice memos or music app, but in iTunes > Devices > Music OR iTunes > Devices > Voice Memos, i can see and listen to them.
I don't have any way of deleting them either, as the delete option via "Edit" is greyed out and the "del" key doesn't do anything either, and as i mentioned above, the voice memos are not visible inside of the Voice Memos app either.
Currently on an iPhone 5 but these voice memos have existed since purchasing my iPhone 4 in 2010.
Invariably someone will always suggest "why don't you wipe your phone and start fresh?". This isn't a solution to the problem nor should it be considered. I'm not about to lose my contacts, messages, save games, and all of my other personally generated data just to delete 10 voice memos which SHOULD be easily removed via iTunes.

  • How long I can record a voice memo in my iphone 5s, how long I can record a voice memo in my iphone 5s

how long I can record a voice memo in my iphone 5s, how long I can record a voice memo in my iphone 5s

Thanks Caramby.  I actually found another work-around
Here's how to copy the voice memo to your laptop (and then email it if you need to):
With iTunes open on the Voice Memo folder of your device (an iPhone 4s in my case), simply drag the required file from iTunes and onto the desktop of your pc/laptop.  It won't remove the file from your device but simply make a copy.   Then you can play the file from your pc/laptop (through Quicktime) as the file is in AAC format.  You can also attach the file to an email for sending.
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • I downloaded and paid for an app on my ipad, how can I get it free on my iphone without using itunes as my laytop is broken. I cannot seem to find the purchase tab in app store? I am logged in using the same ID

I downloaded and paid for an app on my ipad, how can I get it free on my iphone without using itunes as my laytop is broken. I cannot seem to find the purchase tab in app store? I am logged in using the same ID

First, the app must be universal...designed for both iPhone/iPad:
    Tap App Store.
Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
    Tap Updates.
Tap Purchased on the resulting screen.
Locate the app in your Purchased tab.
    Tap the download icon.
The app will begin downloading and you'll be taken back to your home screen.

  • How do you get Voice Memos off the iPhone and onto my Mac???

Is this yet another iPhone dead end??
I used the Voice Memo app that comes with the iPhone to record some rehearsals and now I want to move them to my Mac, edit them, make CDs, share online.
I can't find any way to get them off the iPhone, unless I click the "Share" button, which means I can email them. But, it won't let me email the longer ones. I don't know how large the files are, but it just won't do it. I don't see any other facility for moving these files to my Mac. What is up with that???? iTunes provides no access to these files.
Is there some proprietary utility for the Mac that will allow me to access these files and move them to my Mac??? It would be nice if the iPhone would show up as a mounted volume which I could then browse for files, but that would make too much sense and be contrary to the control freak nature of Apple and it's iPhones/iPod Touches. I would call it another lousy user experience, but it's just a user non-experience, a complete dead end.
Is there any way to get these Voice Memo files off of the iPhone besides emailing them??

    Thank you for replying!
That kb article refers to the iPod Nano and not the iPhone nor the iPod Touch.
The Synchronizing section you pointed to does not work. I have a big bunch of voice memos on the iPhone. I tried the sync. Three of them were moved to the Mac, the rest were ignored. Four others were moved to iTunes Music/Music/Unknown with numbered names (i had given several of the voice memos names with the Custom label on the iPhone). For the synch I selected "Include voice memos."
After a sync, or several syncs, none of the other voice memos were moved to the Voice Memo playlist, nor are they in the iTunes Music library.
How do you get them to sync? I need to move them off of the iPhone and onto my Mac!

  • How can I transfer Voice Memos from my iPhone to my computer?

    Dear Iphone users,
I have a very nice Iphone. I know how to transfer the pictures on my Iphone to my computer but I do not know how to transfer my "audios" (from the "dictaphone" function in French). How can I do that ?
    Thank you very much

iTunes automatically syncs voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer. This lets you listen to voice memos on your computer and provides a backup if you delete them from iPhone.
Voice memos are synced to the Voice Memos playlist. iTunes creates the playlist if it doesn’t exist. When you sync voice memos to iTunes, they remain in the Voice Memos application until you delete them. If you delete a voice memo on iPhone, it isn’t deleted from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from iTunes, it is deleted from iPhone the next time you sync with iTunes.
You can sync the iTunes Voice Memos playlist to the iPod application on iPhone using the Music pane in iTunes.
Sync the Voice Memos playlist to iPhone:
    1. Connect iPhone to your computer.
    2. In iTunes, select iPhone in the sidebar.
    3. Select the Music tab.
    4. Select the “Include voice memos” checkbox and click Apply.

  • How can I transfer voice memos from my iPhone 4 without syncing and having all music/video/audiobook content deleted from my phone?

I would like to be able to transfer several very long voice memos from my iPhone 4 to my PC.  They are too long to email to myself. I manage music manually, so the phone doesn't sync automatically.  I have also not checked off "include voice memos" in my music sync preferences because of a warning that pops up which suggests that I will lose all the music, video & audiobook content on my phone and that it will be replaced with all iTunes content. (Several of the audiobooks on my phone were transferred in directly from my library system's audiobook service & I will lose them permanently if they are wiped off the phone.) Is there a way around this? I am able to transfer photographs directly to my computer because my PC recognizes the iPhone as an external disk and I was able to locate the photo folder, but I have no idea of where to look for the voice memo folder in order to transfer them in the same manner.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • How do I get voice memos off an iphone which hasn't yet been synced with my computer before?

I know that voice memos can usually be transferred to itunes by syncing my phone with itunes however the iphone I am using has never been plugged into my laptop.  When I plug it in it gives me two options: to restore from a backup or to set up as a new phone.  Both options mean wiping all the data currently on my iphone.  The voice memos are a total of 3h30mins which I would rather not have to email to myself in 105 two minute clips!  I know there is software available for extracting files from iphones onto PCs/macs but I'm not sure what will work with a phone that hasn't been recognized by the computer before.  I have also in the past wasted almost $100 on an app (desperately trying to retrieve lost voice memos!) which did absolutely nothing, so I'd rather not waste my money buying an app unless I know it will definitely do what I want it to do.  Please help!

To follow this user tip using iTunes 11, fist go to View>Show Sidebar.  Also, Transfer Purchases (step 5) is now in File>Devices.
If they're too large to email and you don't want to sync, the only other option is to use 3rd party software to transfer them using usb, such as PhoneView (Mac only) or Touch Copy (PC or Mac).

  • How can I save voice memos from my iPhone 4 to my MAC?

I recently updated to the 4s, but really need to save the memos because they are mostly of my deceased Father. I am very concerned that I will lose these memos. Thanks.

You're gonna have to get that version in an iTunes library that does not currently have the Navigon app in it. So, you could delete the current Navigon app in your iTunes library, move all files to trash when prompted, then empty your trash. Then, connect your iPhone 4 & File>Transfer Purchases. This should put the version on your iPhone 4 in your iTunes library. From there, you can sync it to your iPhone 3G...assuming this version will run on your 3G.
You can always re-download the version of Navigon, you deleted, later.

  • Can I get calendar information off of IPhone without syncing?

I would like to export my calendar info from my IPhone before I sync with google calendars and contacts. I have my contacts synced with google, but am unable to get the calendar info off without losing it during the sync. Is there a way to do this? I want to avoid losing all of my calendar data on my IPhone when I sync with Google Calendar. Can I do this without having to reenter everything manually?
I have also backed up everything in Itunes, can I just pull the info from there with a restore? Nor sure what to do.

One thing that might help out.
In order to sync calendar events to a windows computer, you would need outlook 2003 or 2007.
If you tried to get them back by doing a restore from back up, you would over write the google exchange information and be back in the same spot you started.
    Hope this helps.

  • Over capacity iPhone 4 - can't sync and get voice memos to computer

Hi, My friend is overcapacity on your iPhone, and can't even sync at all to get voice memos off her iPhone to her computer. It says can't sync Photos. She is syncing songs with her iTunes library, I guess, it would be good idea to remove a bunch of songs from iTunes library on the computer so when it sync's it will remove those from iPhone. Or, would it better to manage music on the iPhone manualy and have them be removed... ? (Would this delete voice memos)
I ask because the voice memos are important and we dont want to lose them... thanks for any advice

I have 16GB of 'Other' on my iPhone4, 3.7 GB 'Audio', 5.7 GB of Apps and 3.9 GB of free space.
If I try to sync my voice memos, it says I cannot sync because it will exceed total space by 4.4 GB. I can't get them off. If I try turning off other syncing options, itunes tells me it will delete everything. How evil is that? What should I do? These are priceless recordings of my late grandmother. What can I do that is risk-free? I have around 400 recordings and around 700 priceless notes.
Is Apple really like this? Or am I having a nightmare? Why can't I just copy or drag the files off my f$#%ing iphone?
iPhone explorer seems to delete the subject names and destroy the recording dates information. I just triediphone explorer. It marks each date and time as now (insane) and deletes all title information. Don't do it. I am a documentary maker and this is the stuff of litigation. I call for a class action lawsuit against apple to anyone who has lost data. Go to www.publicopinion.co.

  • How do you get voice memos from iphone onto itunes with MANUAL sync?

Ok, the iphone voice record function... I can't get the voice memos onto itunes or my computer. I don't use the autosync function, I like to manage my music and such manually.
I cannot find a way to manually access the voice memos on my iphone through itunes. Many of them are too large to email so I'm stuck.
The only option seems to be auto-sync, and if I do turn on the sync function at this point, itunes will completely erase my iphone and the voice memos I've recorded on it. Kind of defeats the purpose.
    Any tips?
I've looked at a lot of posts and haven't found anything to help here. Just a bunch of posts complaining about how bad the voice recorder feature is integrated into the new iphone 3.0 software.
    i'm using a 32gb 3gs.

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but I'm not quite sure if there is a solution to this.
I have the same desire as OP, but yet I do not see my voice memos automatically syncing when I have manual sync selected. I also do not see a playlist folder or anything that indicates voice memos have transferred. Am I missing something? Is there no way to get voice memos onto the computer without having to autosync it?
If someone can provide more details on how to do this, that'd be great. But it seems at this point that I cannot get voice memos onto my computer through iTunes with manual sync on.

  • I just got my first mac pro and I can't get the photos out of iPhotos moved on my hp external hard drive, I try export says unable, then I try to drag it from the desktop to the external hard drive but same problem. Thank you so much

I just got my first mac pro and I can't get the photos out of iPhotos and move them on my hp external hard drive, I try export says unable, then I try to drag it from the desktop to the external hard drive but same problem. what to do? Thank you so much

How is your external drive formatted? Use Disk Utility to check the volume format. If it is NTFS, you will need to reformat the HDD as exFAT in order to retain universal compatibility (RW to it on both Mac and Windows).

  • I want to take a voice memo off my iPhone, put it into iTunes Library and convert it to an .mp3.  How do I get the voice memos from my phone?  I can't seem to move them out of the Devices folder, no matter how much I try to copy and paste or drag and drop

I want to take a voice memo off my iPhone, turn it into and .mp3, and email it.  My iPhone shows up under "Devices" in my iTunes but doesn't allow me to move the voice memo files I see sitting there into my Library no matter how much copying and pasting or dragging and dropping I try to do.
Also, I need to convert the file to an .mp3.
How come no voice memo files show up when I go into my iPhone via My Computer?  All it shows are the videos and pictures in the DCIM folder, but not the voice memos.  Is there another way to access the voice memos other than through iTunes?

Email it to yourself, then save the file and then see if you can convert it to MP3.

You transfer the purchases to the computer you use to sync the iPhone.  You can use a thumb drive or an external HD, etc.  Read this: iTunes for Mac - How to copy purchases between computers:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1373
