Can I go back to Lion, please?!

I've just got hold of the new iMac 27". I'm not happy with Mountain Lion at all, right now. Is there any way at all that I can get rid of it and install Lion in its place, please?
Thanks for any advice.

".... aren't that many typical uses of Mountain Lion that are different from Lion...."
if you think about it, it's true.. he's referring to typical uses and not features per say... keyword "typical"...
some examples:
ichat is now messages (imessages) what's really changed? you're still chatting, now your chatting across different platforms....
notes and reminders are now applications, but they were always in calendar...

You actually can.  If you call in to apple and ask for lion, they will email you an app store code that can be redeemed.

  • Can you go back to lion if you have already gone to Mountain Lion? I wish I had the old OS back.

Can you go back to lion if you have already gone to Mountain Lion? I wish I had the old OS back.

    Try this:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My friend wanted to get some of the music off my itunes. when syncing it needed to udate her phone which it did - now all her photos are gone. and the last back up was from when she used my itunes 6  ago. How can we get back her photos :(Please help

My friend wanted to get some music off my itunes - when syncing it it said she had to update her phone software first - which it did. Now all her photos are gone. When we tried to restore the last back up - the only one was from when she used my itunes 6 months ago which was from her old iphone. So now it has put all her photos from her old phone onto her new iphone and deleted all the new ones. We cannot find her new photos. Please help and there was 100 new pics. Is there any way we can get them back. I already have the program Asoftech - but it doesnt seem to register the iphone only C and D drive. Please help!

This is called "stealing". You do not have the legal right to give her the music you have in your iTunes library unless you are the copyright holder.

That's not quite what it said.  Someone should have paid more attention to the great big warning about the possibility of losing data if the phone wasn't backed up.

It restored the backup that was made on your computer 6 months ago, which did not contain those photos. You're wasting your time trying to find them on the phone. They don't exist.
Hopefully, your friend syncs her phone to her own computer on a regular basis. She needs to plug her phone into her computer and restore it from her last backup. That will restore it to the state it was in when the backup was made.
She also needs to get in the habit of extracting the photos on a regular basis, like she would from any other digital camera.

  • Black Screen following install, can't boot back into Lion

    Hi all,
I just tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 via Bootcamp on my Late 2010 iMac (21").
Following installation (it completed installation fine) right before the part where the dialogue says 'Setting up your computer for the first time', the screen goes black and nothing appears to be happening.
I cannot boot back into Lion by holding Alt- it does nothing.
Holding C to boot from disk keeps brigning me to the same Windows Error Recovery screen where I am prompted to 'Start Windows Normally' or in the various Safe Modes.
Trying to start it normally results in this hanging black screen, trying to start it in safe mode results in a dialogue saying 'Setup cannot be completed in Safe Mode' and restarts the computer.
Obviously this is quite a tricky situation, I'd appreciate any help to make some part of my Mac usable again,
Thanks in advance for any input.
    tl;dr:
    Can't boot into Lion
Any action available to me in Windows results in the same loop of black screen hanging.
I'm not even sure where I can go to try and change any settings...

Reboot, hold the option key down when you hear the chime, release it when the boot manager appears. Select OSX as the startup. Once started go to Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk and make OSX the permanent choice until you get the Winjunk running, even better, remove the Winjunk partition and stay in the light.
You might find it useful to read this, all kinds of basic information regarding OSX, no need to not know what to do next.

  • If I update to Mavericks can I go back to Lion

If I update to Mavericks can I go back to Lion

If your system shipped with Lion, you'll need to use Internet Recovery so that you can repartition the disk and so remove the Recovery Partition:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
If your system shipped with Mac OS X 10.6, you'll need to boot from the 10.6 installer DVD and use Disk Utility to repartition, then install 10.6, update to 10.6.8, and download Lion again from the Mac App Store.
    Regards.

  • Can I roll back to Lion?

I just updated finally to 10.8.4, and most of my folders don't open? my names on folders (when open) the boxes are all blank? and im not mad keen on the Mac iMessages from 10.8 (one of the reasons I upgraded)
I'd prefer to go back to 10.7.4 (last version wasn't it?)
My App store on the Mac (where I downloaded 10.8.4) is constantly crashing and won't open at all??
Plese help as im stuck after several reboots on a Macbook Pro i7

    Hi pitchfork,
If you are currently backing up with Time Machine, you can revert to a previous version of the OS via the “Restore from a Time Machine Backup” option:
OS X Mountain Lion: Revert to a previous OS X version

  • Mountain lion has murdered my response time.  iPhoto, Safari, iTunes are all S.L.O.W.  How can I revert back to Lion?

Since I installed Mountain Lion, all of my apps are running extremely slowly.  iPhoto is the worst, Safari is second worst, followed closely by iTunes.  Yesterday I waited a full 3 minutes for iPhoto to update one picture.  This morning almost a minute for Safari to come up.  Nothing wrong with my internet, my work PC is very fast.
I want to go back to before I installed Mountain Lion.  Is this possible???

all of my apps are running extremely slowly.
How much free space on the startup disk? Better to troubleshoot than try reverting to Lion.
Click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info then select Storage from the menu.
Make sure there's never less than 15% available space.
Not enough free space can slow the drive down.

  • Can i revert back to lion?, from mountain lion?, happy to wipe the drive, but my disk dont work..

So yeah im not happy with the mountain lion update, i was looking forward to getting it, got it, and i do not like it..
I dont like that the fact they have blocked java applets running and i now can no longer play games, and access some online stuff, i just want lion back ;(,
I am happy to wipe the hard drive as i have backup, however my install disk doesnt work and was wondering if there is a way around this?
    Also i have a late 2009 imac

The Java thing is not specific to Mountain Lion. Wen Apple blocks a vulnerable plugin, that affects users of Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) and up. However, the blockage is easy to get around... Just install an updated version of Java. I've got to warn you, though, that Java has been a repeated security issue, with no less than 7 different malware families in a one year period using Java to install as "drive-by downloads" on the Mac. And you cannot predict what sites will infect you... Some hi-profile sites have been hacked recently, including NBC just recently. Using Java to play games online has become extremely risky, rather like playing Russian Roulette. I wouldn't advise doing that, and would encourage you to disable Java in your web browser.
Beyond that, what problems are you having? For most people, Mountain Lion is far superior to Lion.

  • Can you revert back to Lion after installing Mountain Lion?

Since I have bought ML basically all my software (Saf,Mail,iTunes etc..) is not operating correctly. Safari drops out if I stop using after about 15min and the only way to get it working again is to do a hard (forced) re-start and this is constantly happening. Also when opening some applications the icon's just constantly bounce and do not open. Is there a way to re-install Lion and get my money back as I have had enough of not being able to use my 2010 iMac as it was designed to be.

Unless you have a backup made right before installing ML, it's not an easy task. You would have to erase the hard drive, reinstall the previous system, reinstall all your apps and then import data from somewhere. And some data formats have changed - Mail, for example, has had slight changes to its mailboxes in both the last two major system upgrades. The only way to import messages that aren't still stored on the server into an older version of Mail is one at a time.
Since your problems are not normal, I would recommend troubleshooting instead. Start with Understanding upgrade nightmares.

  • Can you roll back updates?

I've recently had a notification on my Xperia T to say it had a software update available. So I installed it today. It's perhaps a bit more modern but it's terribly annoying. For a start it deleted the android browser with all of my bookmarks, which was pretty annoying, but mostly it's the way the keyboard works. I use the swiping method mainly and it worked everywhere and was very intuitive. The new one is garbage. For a start it doesn't work on Google and YouTube and doesn't offer close matches if you got it slightly wrong. Often it won't get basic words and doesn't offer alternatives. It's horrid.
Can I roll back the update (please say yes).

So as far as I can make out. My first problem is the keyboard. When I used to type it would show alternatives in case a word was misspelled. This new one jumps straight to inaccurate predictions for what you type next, so if you've made an error you have to tap your way back to the misspelling. This is crap.
Also you get the full functionality of the keyboard on Facebook and forums and the url bar of the browser. But you don't get it on Google searches. So you start swiping and nothing happens. This is crap.
Could someone explain why you have different functionality of the keyboard on various sites, whereas it used to be one excellent keyboard for everything and also explain how this constitutes progress?
    Cheers.

  • If i upgrade my current OS X version to the latest version, can i go back to previous version via the time machine backup?

If i upgrade to yosemite which the majority of ratings are poor (thats probably my answer) can i revert back to lion via the time machine back up I have on an external hard disc?
***So if I upgrade my OS X and dont like it, can i jump in my time machine and go back in time to my previous OS X?***

Yes, you can restore back to a previous OS that you backed up on Time Machine prior to upgrading.
If you're not sure you will like Yosemite, why not create a 2nd partition on your internal drive or to an external drive and install Yosemite there. This way you keep your current system in tact and get to try out Yosemite.

  • Roll back to Lion?

How can I roll back to Lion from Mountain Lion?  I recently upgraded, and lost functionallity for QB for Mac.

Sorry - QB is Quickbooks for Mac.  They indicate that QB2012 is supported for ML, but I am having portions of the program hang repeatedly following the OS upgrade.  I have a query to QB support also (in the hopes that they will come out with a fix), but they have historically been slow to respond.
Thanks for the info. on CMD Opt R.  I will try that for accomplishing the roll back.
As a stupid newby question - am I correct in assuming that rolling back will take me back to my prior, working state, with programs and data in tact, or will I have to reload everything?

  • Why do I have to turn the volume in my car up to at least 30 to hear newer songs from iTunes normally? Older versions I can hear just fine at a volume of 12
