Can I have multiple apple ID's?

I have 4 devices on the same Apple ID.  I would like to seperate them and create a new Apple ID for 2 of them.  The 2 I want to seperate are my kids and I no longer want to get their silly apps and music.  2 are iPods and 2 are iPhones.  Can I do that without causing other problems?  Can I use the same computer and just log in for either or?  Will they lose everything they have so far?  Help!

It is possible to create as many Apple ID's as one desires.
Keep in mind that content acquired with an Apple ID is permanently tied to that Apple ID.
Content from multiple Apple ID's can exist on a single iDevices.  This article provides helpful information for using multiple Apple IDs on the same device: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895

Can you have multiple apple id's for the family members but we all us the same iCloud account?

You'll have to have an ID you all share in order to have a shared iCloud account. It would be sensible for each person to have their own ID and their own iCloud account for email and their own data (each would be on their own computer/iOS device or user account on a Mac) and then have a common account which everyone would sign into in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars to access shared data.
You don't want to be all using the email in a common account - if people are using email aliases remember these can't be detached from the account and transferred to another one. Having all your emails mixed up together can be somewhat impracticable.

Yes, there are even defaults for naming them, such as LivingRoom, Bedroom, etc, or you can even enter your own name with the remote for each AppleTV.

  • HT204053 Can you have multiple apple ids that access one itune account??

I need to know if I can have multiple Apple Ids attached to one itunes account.  Trying to set facetime up on these separate devices and it keeps failing.  Any help would be appreciated.  I tried to add additional emails, but I all I get is verifying and it never verifies it.

yes you can still sync all the devices on itunes using one master itunes/appleID account.
    Music:
If you want to select specific playlists for your kids, DON'T enable iTunes Match on their devices, otherwise they will get ALL the playlists on their devices (learned that the hard way)
If you have wi-fi synced enabled that should still work.
    Apps:
I manually select which apps they get on their devices using itunes. It only changes when they re-sync.
Don't enable AUTO downloads on their devices for Apps or Music purchases.
Since I also have young kids using these devices:
I have restrictions setup on their devices. I don't allow them to install/delete apps, nor do I allow them to make any account changes on their devices. This way their devices stay in order and get backed up to icloud. I can easily restore their devices if I needed too.
Once in a while I will disable the restrictions so I can update all their apps.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can I have multiple Apple IDs on one email address?

How do I register for and Apple ID for my husband's ipad when I am using the family email for my own Apple ID?

An email account can only have one Inbox, and each email account can only be on one iTunes account. I don't use Virgin Media, but some providers allow you to have sub accounts under the main account, or can you create a second Virgin Media account to use on a second iTunes accout ? You can also create free email accound via, for example, http://hotmail.com and http://gmail.com
But you can use the same iTunes account on more than iPad - all content that you buy/download from the iTunes store is tied to the iTunes account that downloads it, so if you want to have the same apps, music, films etc on both then continuing to have just the one account may be preferable.

  • HT5622 Can you have multiple apple ids and all share the same apps and music?

I have multiple devices, iphone 5s (myself), mini ipad (son), 5th generation ipod (daughter). When I receive imessages they are going to the other devices and not my phone. Is this because I have all devices set up on the same Apple User ID or am I missing something in Settings that needs to be turned on/off? I have all devices under the same User ID to control the purchases. Now I'm thinking maybe each device needs to have it's own User ID and if I switch them now, will we all still share the same apps and music? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't you only need to create a new apple ID and put that on your phone instead of your old apple ID that is merged?

  • Can you have multiple apple id's with different billing?

My husband and I started out using the same Apple ID and now have it on a laptop, 2 iPhones and an iPad.  When we set up our new 4S iPhones our Contacts were merged and some duplicated.  I also want to have my own set of music so I'd like to separate my devices from the existing Apple ID and set up a new one that only contains my purchases and interests.  How can I accomplish this without negative impact to my husbands iPhone and laptop?

Wouldn't you only need to create a new apple ID and put that on your phone instead of your old apple ID that is merged?

  • HT201335 In my house there are 3 iPads.  Can you have multiple Apple IDs set up to work with the Apple TV?  Obviously one at a time.

Is it possible to have Apple TV device "remember" all three ID's?  If so how does one set that up?

At any time, you can go in the settings in the iTunes Store section to setup a different account.  This will only have to do with rental to be charge to a different account and photostream.

  • HT2589 Can you have multiple apple id's linked to one library?

I want my kids to have their own accounts, but as they are all linked to the same library, would they need their own library to have their own account? Don't want 4 versions of iTunes on my computer.

No. Each Apple ID and account needs a separate library. To accomplish this on one computer you must set up separate user accounts each of which will have its own iTunes Library (but only one version of iTunes.) If that's not satisfactory then buy a computer for each of your kids.

  • How can I have multiple users on one apple id?

How can I have multiple users on one apple ID?
ie: I have my apple ID with my own credit, how can I set up credit for my son under the same apple ID, so that he can still access the same apps I've already downloaded and paid for?

I've been trying to figure out a clean way to do this too. I think you may need more than one Apple ID – one that is shared and used to purchase "sharable" items and then "individual" Apple IDs for you and your son. That's the idea that I'm pursuing for the moment.
It seems that there must be a way to do this, App Store purchases for the Mac are licensed across multiple machines. iPhone app purchases have "all your devices" licensing. Makes me think that Apple has a process in mind for sharing an account (or associating a device with multiple accounts).
    Other things I've learned:
    - Apparently you can't merge Apple ID accounts. I asked about this once at an Apple Store and was told that there was no way to do it.
    - If you share an Apple ID the Messages app behaves in a somewhat surprising manner. It must use your Apple ID to decide where messages should be sent because all users get all messages. This can make it very hard to organize a surprise party :-)

  • Can you have multiple users on one apple Id and utilize iCloud?

My family shares an apple Id and we each have multiple Apple devices. When we use iCloud we "cross pollinate" each others devices with contacts, calendar events, etc.  is it possible to manage multiple users on one apple Id with iCloud activated or are separate ID's required?

iCloud isn't designed as a multi-user service. Either you all have the same ID, and all your data is available to everyone, or you all have separate IDs and keep your data separate. You can share calendars, so that for example you could all have your own calendars but have one which is common to everyone:

If you want to share contacts you will have to do it manually. If you want to do file transfer you will have to find a third-party alternative.
