Can I have my profile on another drive (other than C:) - Fx 4 beta 10, Win XP SP3

Is it possible to install or set up Firefox so that my profile is on the '''E: drive''' (for example) instead of C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\abcd3du4.default. I have installed Firefox on the E: drive.
(I know I can use a portable version to solve the problem but I want to know if it's possible with the regular Firefox.)

    Can I install Calendar Server on another partition other than / ?
    <P>
    In this version, the default path is hard coded to install in
    /users/unison. However, if you do not have enough room on your root
    partition or choose to install it in another location, you can do so
    using a logical link. The installation guide explains this as well.
    <P>
    For example, suppose you want /users/unison, which must NOT already
    exist, to be logically linked to /var/opt/unison, which must exist.
    Then as root user:
    <P>
    <UL>
    <LI>
    Create the directory /users (if it does not already exist)
    <P>
    % mkdir /users
    <P>
    <LI>
    Create the logical link. The directory /users/unison must
    NOT exist before doing this.
    <P>
    % ln -s /var/opt/unison /users/unison
    </UL>
    <P>
    <P>

    makes a lot of sense.  I am looking for an answer myself.  My documents folder long ago outgrew it's place on the boot drive.  It would be nice to keep it in the user folder organized on another disc

  • Can I install Adobe Reader to a drive other than the C: drive?

    Can I install Adobe Reader to a drive other than the C: drive?

    Hello there,
    Welcome to Adobe Community. Yes it can be installed on a different drive. Though some of the files installed by it will still be installed on C: drive.
    When you run the installer, use 'Change destination folder' at the bottom of the panel
    If you already have Adobe Reader installed on the C: drive, you must uninstall it before installing a new version on a different location.
    Thanks!

  • How do i install itunes on another drive other than c

    I would like to install itunes on a drive other than c drive in a fresh install to keep it free from my operating system.Itunes is not currently installed on my computer, so i dont need to transfer anything or move anything and i dont want to put itunes on a external hard drive as i just simply want to do a fresh install on a drive other than c drive. Can itunes accomodate me in this simple task.

    Install it normally, launch it with the Shift key held down, and create a new library on the desired drive. The iTunes application contains system components and therefore must be installed on the drive or partition containing the OS.

  • HT1926 How do I install itunes to another drive, other than drive C

    Please help; I would like to install iTunes in my "new volume E" folder and it automatically installs in drive C. I don't see an option to change destination folder or an advanced option. ty

    If your library is properly self-contained then app updates should be saved in the iTunes Media folder. See Make a split library portable for details.
    The other main issue will be device backups which are stored on whichever drive is hosting your profile, normally C:
    Relocate MobileSync Backup folder
    You can redirect <Profile>\<AppData>\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to a folder on another drive using NTFSLink (shell ext., might only work on XP) or Junction (cmd line tool).
    In essence you move the existing folder to a new location, create an empty folder where the old one used to be, then get the operating system to link the two together and silently redirect any file operation on the old location through to the new one.

  • System folders on another drive other than boot drive

    hi, guys...
    does anyone know anything about moving your folders such as "documents, photos, movies, music" to an external drive or separate partition in snow leopard?  or how this might affect Lion?
    i've found some online documentation that shows you can move your entire home folder (which i don't want to do), and some documentation that you can use symbolic links (via a few terminal commands) so that the actual system folder can be moved elsewhere with an alias being the actual reference folder.
    the reason i want to do this is to move my music and photo folders to a storage partition.  i add and delete so often on these that it ends up fragmenting my drive and bogs down my startup disk.  also, i'm going to move soon to an SSD as my startup drive, either 128 or 240 gb and use it only for system files and move all my data elsewhere.
    but as you know, os x likes certain things in the default folders.
    so i guess i'm looking for anyone's thoughts on this.
    oh, and i do have a question.  if i can use a symbolic link and have the actual data reside elsewhere, if i do a time machine backup and it's backing up all my system and user folders, will it backup the data that resides elsewhere, or would i have to actually back up separately from the other location where the music and photos reside?
    is this making any sense to anyone?

  • Can i move itunes to another drive other than my c drive?

    I use a smallish SSD drive for my os and a couple games, i was curious if there is away to move  itunes from the C drive to a Bigger storage drive and still be able to fully use it.  Just need more space for Itunes and it contents.
    thanks for any help on the subject.

    Niel's advice above will work better. Moving the entire library as unit and then connecting to it works, and makes the next move easy too. Moving the media alone and then editing the media folder location in preferences doesn't work reliably, and may leave the library with broken connections to the old paths that need to be repaired.
    @Rockdwg: If you have any iOS devices you may also want to relocate the backup folder.

  • Don't have correct permissions to any drive other than the boot drive

    I installed SL, and when it came time to enter in the user name, it said the name was already taken xxxx and so I entered yyyy. As an example.
    Now User yyyy has Read / Write permissions for everything on Drive 1, the boot drive, but ALL of the other hard drives have xxxx as having Read / Write permissions, and not for my new account yyyy. So everytime I need to write a file to a hard drive, I have to fix permission for the folder the file resides in. This is getting old fast.
    How can I change all my drives, folders, files, etc, etc to have yyyy permissions added without doing them 1 at a time?

    what kind of backups? manual ones? then it's ok to do the following
    select a drive and enter command+i. in the resulting popup, unlock the lock at the bottom, change the permissions as you want, then click on the "gears" action button at the bottom and select "apply to enclosed items".
    However, let me stress here that you should NEVER EVER use "apply to enclosed items" on ANY system created folders, system drives or TM drives. that includes btw things like your home folder, your desktop folder etc. use it ONLY on folders you made yourself. using it on a system drive will have catastrophic results. using it on any system created folder will likely have highly unpleasant ones because such folders often have invisible ACLs and using this button will propagate them inside.

  • How can I install Illustrator on a different drive other than C

        My c drive is full and I don't want to mess with the Windows registry.  Is there an option to manually choose where the app is installed?

    For CC this option is set globally for all apps in the CC app's settings. There is no way to only install individual apps selectively to other locations.

  • How do I have the creative cloud installer and apps install on a different drive other than my main C drive?

    I have been having trouble figuring out how I can put the installer and adobe apps on another drive other than my C drive. Please Help me. My C drive is getting too full.

    The CC app itself will always install on the system root drive as will several shared components. Once the CC app has been installed, you can choose a different install location for the main programs in the app's settings.

  • How do I install DW CS6 in PC drive other than C:?

    How can I install DW CS6 in PC drive other than C:? I have "only" 6GB of space left in C:, and got an error message when I tried to put the Adobe Installer into another drive.

    Thanks, Mylenium...
    It's not about the cost of a new drive. I've already added 2TB over the past couple of years, and partitioned thim into higher drive letters. Most programs let me install them into those drives and still save enough in C: to be happy. But I'm uncomfortable messing with any root stuff. For some dumb reason, I partitioned the original drive (165GB) into 3 virtual drives (c,d,e) and the C: is only 60GB, which had 6GB free.
    I've temporarily offloaded a lot of files and now have 13GB free space. Maybe I'll try the install again tonight, as it takes many hours to download DW CS6. If that doesn't work, maybe I'll have to ditch the 165GB drive and replace with larger. Do you know of a program that will do that exchange without losing anything? The thought of having to reinstall a lot of legacy software that I still use is scary. And I don't have any spare SATA ports left.
    Thanks again...

  • Install Adobe CC apps on a drive other than C?

    Can I install CC apps on a drive other than C? If so, how?

    It does indeed:
    I haven't tried it either, in fact I've always heard that the smart thing is to install in the default location. But the option is there. Keep in mind that a lot of stuff will go to the user folder on the C drive in any case, so you can't keep it entirely off C.
    Normally I'd ask "why?" - but SSDs have brought back space restrictions, at least for a while. I'm getting a little worried for my 240 GB system/apps SSD, which is very nearly full pretty soon.

  • In itunes, can i save my music on another hard drive other than C?

    i have the program installed on my computer, i would like the music to be saved on another hard drive other than C, is there a way to do that within itunes?

    You can have multiple libraries, and switch between them using the shift-start-iTunes method. Normally a single library is all that is required. Each library connects to a single designated media folder, however you can import content from other locations if you choose. See Make a split library portable for reasons why this may not be the best approach. If you want to access the "same" library on more than one machine then you need to clone the library files as well as media.

    There is a new [[what is firefox sync?| sync]] feature available by default with firefox 4, you may be interested in that. There are also other editions of firefox that are [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Firefox,_Portable_Edition portable], and can be installed on a USB stick for instance.
    The default location of the profile will not be ?c:desktop?, and if Windows crashes you will need to recover before you can use firefox.
    It is however sensible to backup your profile, and you can back it up to or use it from almost anywhere see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information#w_restoring-to-a-different-location you can use the profile from a USB stick for instance, but there are slight problems with the way Windows assigns drive letters as you plug in and unplug drives. The easiest solution may be to leave the profile where it is, or move it to another fixed drive, and make a backup somewhere else.

  • Can I use "official" folders on another drive?

    (Basically I've posted my situation several times recently, and no offense, but people have been replying to the questions I didn't ask, then the topic would get ignored into oblivion, so I'll include the LEAST amount of information I can.)
    *Can I use folders such as "documents," "movies," and "music" on a drive other than the one the system is installed on?*
    Thanks for reading (and hopefully replying!)

    Drag the folder over, rename the existing folder, and create an alias or symbolic link to the item's new location where the folder used to be. This can be done with an entire home folder; the path can also be altered by control-clicking your account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences, choosing Advanced Options, and changing the home folder's path.
    Some applications may not work properly if this is done; a symbolic link is more likely to succeed than an alias. Some other applications include a built-in option of moving their content to another location; if so, use that instead.
