Can I have two versions of iTunes, one on one computer and another on another computer?

I have a new computer and want to install iTunes on it.
I have a version on my old computer and for various reasons cannot update or uninstall it.
Can I install iTunes on my new computer without uninstalling it from my old one?
I cannot update or uninstalliTunes on my XP computer --I get a message saying "the feature
you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable", and I cannot figure out
what to do to find the resource.
Thanks for any help,
Nanc

Yes. You will have to authorize both computers for yur Apple ID. You can have a max of 5 authorized computers.
Authorize your computer in iTunes - Apple Support
Note you can only sync with one computer. To switch computers:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities

can i have two versions of OSX running on one computer?

Yes. The second one can be installed on an internal or external drive, but can't be one that the computer wouldn't be able to run if installed on the internal drive.

You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

  • Can I have two versions of firefox? i.e. one for work and one for home use?

Can I have two versions of firefox? i.e. one for work and one for home use. I use Windows xp
I would like to start fresh with a new firefox for my work only so I can keep my work related bookmarks etc separate from my at home browsing.

Yes - are you wanting to run 2 profiles on the same machine? See https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles on how to create a new profile. You then just choose which profile you want to use each time you open Firefox.

  • Can i have two different face time accounts on one apple id

Would like to have two different face time accounts, one on mac book pro and one on ipad.  Can I have two different face time accounts on one apple id?

You simply need to have a separate e-mail identifier for each.  One e-mail address would be associated with the mac book, the other separate and distinctive e-mail address would be associated with the i pad.  This is done under one single apple id.  Essentialy, the e-mail addresses are the FaceTime calling numbers for each.

  • Can I have two versions of firefox at the same time?

    Hi,
Probably a dumb question but can I have two versions of Firefox on my system at the same time?
The reason is because of Add Ons that are not compatible with v4. I'd like to be able to close v4 when I need to use an Add On in v3.
    Thanks.

You can install them both but there are a few steps to take.
When you install Firefox 4 use the custom installation option and choose a different location to install Firefox.
In order to use both versions, you need to create a new profile for Firefox 4 (Firefox stores user data in the profile). Using the same profile with different versions can cause problems. Once you create a new profile you can copy certain data such as bookmarks and passwords between them. You can also use Firefox Sync to keep the profiles synchronized. Finally, you will need to set up shortcuts to launch the correct profile for each version.
The following links show how to do this:

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/firefox-sync (only needed for Firefox 3.6, it is built into Firefox 4)

Do you mean Office 2008 and 2011 or do you really want Office 2001? I think you mean 2011 since Office 2001 wouldn't make much sense.
The Office uninstaller should be able to identify there are two versions and allow you to delete either one or both.

  • HT5148 can i have multiple versions of final cut on one machine

I currently have Final Cut Pro X, but my video interface requires I use Final Cut Pro 7. Can I have both versions on one machine?

You can use both the versions. But at times you will have to rename the application "MOTION" to open Final Cut Pro 7 & to use the option "Open a copy in Motion" in Final Cut Pro X!

  • Can I have two versions of Safari on one machine?

The question first, then the explanation for the question:  Can I have both Safari 5 and Safari 6 on my machine and run them at the same time?
I hate Safari 6 & 7 because they combine the search and URL into one bar, which really annoys me.  It requires an extra step when I type in the direct URL I want, because instead of returning the URL, it goes to a search page, and then I have to click the site I want.  Annoying.   So I have not upgraded from Safari 5 on my iMac, which I use nearly all the time.  I have tried Firefox because it still has the search and URL boxes separate, but I also like the little orange arrow in Safari 5 that quickly takes me back to my original search when I've ended up on rabbit trails in my searching and I want to go back to where I was -- Firefox does not have this.  (I dislike Firefox in general, anyway.)
However, now I'm finding that some websites are beginning to warn me that my browser (Safari 5) is too old and may not work properly.  Now I have found a site for which indeed that is true -- a site I regularly use for my job, and a company which says they will no longer offer support for issues on Safari 5.  One screen is split into two, and I could always scroll the two sides separately, but after an update to the site, now they will not scroll separately.  I have a MacBook Air, which I rarely use, and tested the same page on Safari 6 -- it works on Safari 6.  Thus, the company will refuse to help me and tell me to just update my browser.
I really like Safari, EXCEPT for the new versions' combined search/URL bar, so I want to keep using Safari 5.  Thus, I want to know if I can have both Safari 5 and 6 on my machine at all, and if so, then I want to know if I can have them both open at the time, for example, if I give them different names (Safari 5 and Safari 6, rather than just Safari).
This is for my iMac, which is running Lion 10.7.5

    >>I could not see this reply in Safari 5, neither by refreshing the page nor by clicking "Latest reply," which did nothing.
That's a very common issue with the software that runs these discussions, and usually nothing to do with the browser. Pasting a single character reply, often reveals the missing item(s); as does viewing the thread without signing in first.

  • Can I have 2 versions of iTunes?

    Wondering if this is possible:
I currently am running the latest version of iTunes on the latest OS X on a MacBook Pro. I have none of my music on my computer, it's all on an external hard drive. I keep it plugged in all the time pretty much. iTunes knows the path to find the music in the hard drive and it has worked for me since I started doing this method. (My very large music library is the reason why I have the external.)
I have a large collection of Soundtracks that I want to keep separate from the rest of my library. So I have them on a different external hard drive. I want to have a 2nd copy of iTunes that only has the Soundtrack stuff in it, but still keep the actual files on the external. Can I do this? Or can you only have one copy of iTunes on your computer?
    Thanx.

    Charlie,
Thanks for getting back to me. I just did what you told me to, and it worked. However, now I have another problem.
So I started the 2nd Library with the "Soundtracks only" external hard drive attached. It all worked great. I closed iTunes, and ejected the external. I plugged in my other external hard drive (the one with my original library of music on it) and opened iTunes. Upon opening iTunes, it gave me the same dialog box as it did when I created the 2nd library. This time, instead of creating a new one, I clicked "find existing library." I chose the iTunes library on my original external. What iTunes did is nothing short of amazing. For whatever reason, my iTunes has reverted back to about 15 months ago. Old playlists, song information for songs that no longer exist, stuff that I put in yesterday isn't there. It is literally a copy of an iTunes from 15 months ago. All my music is still on my external so I haven't lost anything, but what the **** happened?
    -e.

  • Can I have two versions of firefox - latest and the older 3.6, which I can only use with Blackboard?

My 8 new Firefox is fine. But I am using the Blackboard online LMS, which has not yet been upgraded for the newer Firefox. I was told Blackboard works fine with the 3.6 firefox. Hence I want to know if I can have both versions of firefox at once on my Windows 7 laptop PC. Or can I only have one version at a time.

Yes - you can either use a portable version of Firefox 3.6 or you can run two profiles. If you search on how to run 2 profiles there are instructions out there.

  • Can I have two versions of OSX running on same machine?

Hi - since upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion recently I have run into an unexpected problem (though I'm sure there would have been a warning that I missed). Some of my older applications, such as Adobe Creative Suite version 1, no longer run with the new OS. My plan is to install an additional hard drive in my Mac Pro (2009 dual Xeon version) and go back to my original software (Tiger) and install that on the new drive, then update to Snow Leopard with that software package. I will then, hopefully, be able to install CS1 on that drive.
Am I likely to encounter any problems doing this? I will effectively have two different OSXs running on the same machine, albeit on differnt drives.
    Thank you in anticipation,
    John Irvine

The old "pop the DVD in, hold down Option or Command + C and just do a clean install on your new drive doesn't cut it?
As for SL, it has to be retail, can't be the OEM gray disc from another Mac specific model.
First, start up your computer from the Mac OS X Install DVD.
Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD.  After it mounts, choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu.
Choose Startup Disk from the View menu.
Select the Mac OS X Install DVD as the startup disk and click Restart.

  • Can you have 2 versions of iTunes for old & new iPod????

A friend has bought a new iPod Nano, the latest Pink (4gb)slim version, and downloaded the new version of iTunes.
She has already got quite a few songs onto her new library and onto her iPod.
My question is will her sister's old iPod (white 20gb) be affected by the new iTunes, and will her library on her old iPod (approx 700 songs) be affected by the new software and how???
She doesn't want to lose her massive library of songs in one go.
What will happen if she plugs her iPod into the new software??
    Cheers
    Steve

What will happen if she plugs her iPod into the new software??
It will work just fine. Don't need (and shouldn't) use 2 different versions of iTunes.

  • Can I have two versions of the same original live in separate projects?

I am not an Aperature or photography expert.
I scanned in a ton of old family photos with multiple snaphots on a page and in a single file. Then I imported into Aperature, created new versions, one for each snapshot, then cropped each snapshot, so each snapshot is seperate in Aperature. (I could have learned Spanish with all the time that this took.)
Then, I tried to organize the ton of photos into projects and it won't let multiple versions of the same original photo be in separate projects. I found a way to change the filenames through Batch Change, but that didn't fix the problem.
I would like to organize the ton of files, but from what I can tell my only option would be to go back to the scanned files, make copies from Finder as needed, once for each snapshot, reimport into Aperature and recrop each individual snapshot.
Oh my, I have kids and a job and a husband and I like to sleep at night. Is there any easier way to organize the photos?
    Thank you for your time.
    Carol

    Carol,
William Lloyd said it all, but perhaps Kirby Krieger's User Tip will explain a bit more the different uses of albums and projects:
                       The Well-Trod Path: a Beginner's Guide to how Aperture's major parts inter-relate
Then I imported into Aperature, created new versions, one for each snapshot, then cropped each snapshot, so each snapshot is seperate in Aperature.
You want to find each snapshot separately in Aperture? Perhaps you could explain more, how you want to organize your photos. William pointed out albums to group versions of an image. You could also assign keywords to mark special occasions like birthdays, weddings, etc.  You could assign faces to find photos of persons by name. You can use the search field in the browser to search for photos by face, date, keyword, etc.  Aperture is really great for accessing images in many different ways. There must be a way to access the images in your Aperture library just like you want to.
Then, I tried to organize the ton of photos into projects and it won't let multiple versions of the same original photo be in separate projects.
That is, how Aperture works. All versions of an image need to be in the same project, because they are sharing the same imported original image file. Aperture tries to save your disk space, by by not creating image files for the edited versions. Versions are just a set of instructions how to produce the rendered image, when you want to edit it or to export it. Unless you are working with the version, it will live in limbo and it will not exist as an image file. So all versions are kept together in the same project with the original image file that is necessary to render them as an image.

  • TS2972 can i have two apple id's on the one mac system?

I have an iphone 4s and my husband just got the new iphone 5.  I have created him a new apple id. is it possible for us both to use the same itunes library i we have different id's?
    thanks

iOS does not support multiple users like a desktop OS does.
You can use a web interface to your respective email accounts
to keep things separate; but there is no provision for otherwise
    separating photos, media, etc.
If you wish, you can contact Apple to let them know of your desire:
