Can I hide an app in apps folder

Is it possible to hide an app icon in the applications folder so it will look like I do not have this app and still use the app?

If it is a Apple system application, no they do not allow modification or moving.
However you may create a folder placed in applications and move (some) 3rd party applications into it, the folder will be visible, depending on the view option you have selected, the contents may require an additional step to reveal them.
If you are more specific as to what you are trying to do, maybe someone can offer more advice/suggestions.

    Thanks!

If you have several such items in the Launchpad, you can combine them into a folder-type (collection) icon. To do that, just drag one of them on top of another; when the second one highlights, let go. You can add more icons to that same collection. To use one of the items in a collection, click the collection's icon and it will open a sub-field in Launchpad, from which you can select the item you want.

  • How can I hide an app on my iPad2 with iOS5?

I would like to know how I can hide an app on my iPad, but still be able to use the app?

Demo's answer explains how to hide it in iTunes... but if I understand correctly, you're trying to hide the icon on the iPad screen but still have the app on the iPad? There's no way to do that. You could put an app in a folder, which isn't exaclty hiding it, but is the closest you can come. If you enable restrictions the app will be hidden, but that only works for certain apps and you'd have to turn off the restrictions to use it.

  • How can I hide certain apps and also prevent apps to be deleted without my permission?

I have a young daughter that watches movies and plays games on my itouch.  I love that she enjoys it, but sometimes while using it, she goes to apps that are not appropriate for her, and also she accidentally deletes apps.  Is there some kind of parental control...or just any feature that can hide the apps I don't want her to go on...and also something I can do to prevent her from accidentally deleting apps?  Thanks!

You can turn restrictions on that keep her from deleting apps. As for hiding apps, I don't know if that's possible. You could hide the apps in a folder wouldn't have interest in such as a news or utilities folder if she's playing games and watching movies. Hope this helps.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • How can I create an App Folder?

I see you can putt like 8 apps into one folder. I filled up on how can I create another one?
    Thanks.

You can put 12 app in a folder. You can not put or create folders within folders. If you need another folder, just hold your finger on an app until it starts to jiggle, then drag in on top of another app you want in that folder. It will create a new folder with the two apps in it and give you the ability to name the folder.

  • You CAN change icons in App folder size

I thought I would share my discovery. Here goes:
    1) Change view to list. (Right click app folder & choose list.)
    2) Open up Terminal & type the following WITHOUT the quotes: 'defaults write com.apple.dock use-new-list-stack -boolean YES'
    3) Then type, again WITHOUT the quotes: killall Dock
    4) Open up the Apps folder & while it is open press & hold CMD & + to increse the icon size, or CMD & - to decrese the size. You can press the sequence as many times as you like to increase or decrease the icon sizes.
    5) Change the view back to grid.
It is really as easy as that!
    ENJOY!!!

The guy was the head man at CandyBar so I figure he knows icons and how to change them.
And I don't think changing the icon in Get Info will work for the icns files in the app package.

  • Please help. The Finder has crashed I guess, no icons on the desktop, menu bar and dock flicking. Can't open any app, folder or even do a right click.

Good day, I could really need some information. Thank you in advance.
    I have a 2008 24" iMac, running on 10.5.8.
I want to describe the whole issue. The only thing that changed in my routine and made it crash was that I bought a new Apple keyboard, with a wire this time, before I was using a bluetooth one, and a new wireless Logitech mouse. After I successfuly connected both, while browsing in Safari, the computer totally lagged. All I could do was to manually restart it. When I started it again, it said that the "ruby" application has quited unnexpectedly. After clicking ignore, I observed that the icons on desktop haven't loaded, the menu bar is constantly reopening itself, I can't right click, if I try to open Sistem Preferences that is as far as it will allow me to go, if I click anything else than, it closes system Pref. and leaves me again with this flicking menu bar, which of course I can't even click and an empty desktop. I couldn't see if the problem is only related to my user, as there is only 1 user on it. I tried to create a new one, but I get the problem mentioned above.
I try to see here on the forum if other people have had the same problem, but what I got was minor cases, they can still use finder or an app, everytime I open something, it dies and I only can restart the poor thing
I hope I don't have to delete all my info on my drive, that would be a big problem for me.
    Solutions, recommendations?
    Thank you.

    Hi Paul,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • How to hide downloaded apps folder?

Hi all, i think the topic says it all, my Q is, in the downloads folder i got a lot of downloaded apps which i downloaded from the net, now my Q is again, how to empty this folder without loosing my apps that works with these downloaded apps? deleted these files once and the apps related to it stopped working!! how to empty the DOWNLOADS folder? Thanks for your COOP.

The Downloads folder is designed as a temporary place to put files that you download from the net. Soon after you download each file you should decide to move it to its proper place if you want to keep it, or put it in the Trash if you don't. In particular, applications should be put in the Applications folder, or a folder inside Applications. If you keep your Downloads folder organized, you won't have this problem.
If you have a lot of stuff in your Downloads folder to clear out, I suggest you open the folder, view its contents as List, and sort by Kind. That will put all the applications together and make it easier to locate them in order to move them to where they belong.

  • Switch to a new PC, but can't keep iPhone app folder organisation when sync with iTunes

I have just switched to a new PC. When I connected my iPhone to it, I have chosen to "Transfer Purchase" in iTunes. Then I go to sync for the apps. I got a msseage warning me that the apps on the iPhone will be replaced by those in the iTunes library. I didn't mind for that since I have already do the "Transfer Purchase" and I won't lose any apps for this step. But I thought it would not keep the folder organisation on my iPhone and I will need to manually group all apps again if I continue the process. I have nearly 300 apps. Are there any ways to keep all the folder organisations for this case of switching PC?

Thanks. But what I really want is to import the folder organisation from iPhone to iTunes. It is tedious to reorganise all my 300 apps again.

  • HT201322 How can I hide purchased apps on my Iphone with IOS 7?

I've hidden unwanted apps on itunes through the mac, but they still appear in my purchased items on my phone with IOS 7? any thoughts

It appears to be a bug. Try logging out of your account on your phoneby tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and hopefully they will not then show in the Purchased tab

  • Can I hide web app items from site search?

    I've added:
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex">
to my page template and also item description layout, but the items are still appearing in search & the sitemap.
Is there another way to hide them?

Exactly. Getting an external domain (eg: www.smallinformationsite.com) is the only way how to do this. Then, in your MobileMe.com, go to your account settings and enable the Personal Domain - set it to www.smallinformationsite.com.
From that point, anyone who will visit your website which will still remain hosted on MobileMe under your account name, will only see www.smallinformationsite.com, regardless of where on your website they will navigate to. The address displayed in the browser will remain the same at all times.
Remember, it all depends on who your domain registrar is. Each host has different settings, but all in all many will need you to provide them with "A RECORD" and "CNAME" settings where the doimain will need to be forwarded to.
I use Yahoo! domains, they are cheap and easy to set up. Work like a charm with 5 of my MobileMe sites, all hosted on one account.
Yahoo! provides excellent tutorials on how to forward a domain to MobileMe personal domain. Here are some of them:
    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/smallbusiness/domains/domainfeatures/advanceddn s/advanceddns-08.html
In case you go that route: MobileMe's CNAME is "web.me.com". It took me a while to figure this one out.
CAUTION: enabling Personal Domain disables some MobileMe functionalities! For example your page counters may stop working and blogs will stop working altogether...others will not be able to create posts on your site.
Here's some more info from MobileMe:

I've heard that godaddy.com is cheap and good as well.
