Can I hook 2 external monitors to a new Macbook Pro?  If so what do I need?

I am purchasing a new macbook pro 15 inch.  I would like to hook it to 2 external monitors with the laptop closed.  Is this possible? And what hardware would I need? Thanks

Sorry forgot to mention that the external monitors are not apple products.

  • How can I split an external monitor's screen on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro with TWO external monitors.  When maximizing a program on one of the external monitors it expands across BOTH screens. When I do the same thing on my Windows 7 system the program is contained to the monitor it is being displayed on. (Pretty smart of that PC to know which monitor I'm working on!) So HOW can I get the Mac to do the same thing? Is there a 3rd party utility that can identify multiple monitors?  I'm using a Matrix DualHead2Go to connect the two external montors to the Mini-DVI port on the Mac.
    Thanks!!

The behavior you describe in Windows is exactly how much multiple display system works but I have two graphics cards capable of driving two displays each. I believe you have identified the problem in the above sentence. I believe that the Mac sees the Matrix device as a single display and not the two displays themselves. With the two external monitors attached, open System Preferences and select the Displays tab. If the Mac OS sees the displays as two separate displays you should see a dialog in each of the monitors and on your MacBook Pro. If I am correct you won't see three display dialogs, you'll only see two, one on the Mac and one on one of the two external displays.

  • External monitor connected to new MacBook Pro

I have a Samsung LED monitor connected to my brand new MacBook Pro with a mini display port adapter and a DVI-D dual link digital male to male HDTV cable. The external monitor flickers, cuts in and out and has static similar to an analog TV that can't find a signal. I'm wondering if it's the wrong kind of cable? Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same thing but with a 23 inch HP, worked fine with my MBP 13 from 2009 but the 2011 2.4 i5 does the exact same thing as yours!
Very confused and hoping that some one else can help.
    Thanks

  • How can I use my Late 2009 iMac as an external monitor with my new MacBook Pro 15" Retina

I want to use my iMac (Late 2009) as an external Display for my new 15" MacBook Pro Retina, I need to know what Cables to use so I can go buy them the Apple Store, I already tried a thunderbolt cable between the two and that doesn't work, but I think this might
              iMAC                                                                                 MBP 15" Retina
Mini display Port to VGA adaptor -> VGA Cable -> Mini Display Cable to VGA adaptor
    or maybe
Mini Display port to HDMI adaptor -> HDMI Cable -> HDMI Port on MBP
Pleae help I can't seem to figure it out online.
    Thanks!

    Hello, All-
I too am very interested in the answer to this query. Same set up, same fail w/the Thunderbolt cable. The Genius Bar at the Apple Store was no help & recommended I bring my 27" iMac into the store...seriously? Their ultimate answer was that I needed a plain old male-male mini display port cable....that the Thunderbolt cable was the problem. Bloody unlikely, I say. Another guy in the store agreed with me this morning, so swapped out the cable. I was hoping upon hope it was a bad cable, but no such luck—still nothing. Next I tried a mini-display-port-to-DVI adapter—DVI cable—mini-display-port-to-DVI adapter. This also did not work. Is there a chance that the iMac running Snow Leopard and the MacBook running Mountain Lion is the problem???

Pair a wireless KB with the laptop and all should be well when you attach the laptop to the iMac and invoke TDM. But as Denny mentions, it does seem like the waste of a good iMac to use it in just this configuration. Why is the laptop primary?

Can I hook up 2 USB headsets to me Macbook Pro (running v.10.9.2)?

    Are you looking through Thunderbolt? You can do it on your model with 2 Thunderbolt displays according to Apple Support document;
Thunderbolt-capable Macs, with discrete AMD Radeon graphics can support up to two connected Apple Thunderbolt Displays.
    MacBook Pro (15-inch and 17-inch, Early 2011)
    iMac (Mid 2011)2
    Mac mini (Mid 2011), 2.5 GHz3
      Two Thunderbolt display
    Here is a third party that does it also;
Matrox DualHead2Go DP Edition or TripleHead2Go DP Edition. Pricey though.

  • How can I sync my iPad 2 with my new MacBook Pro when it is already synced with my old MacBook? I am getting a message on the new MacBook Pro that says I am not allowed to sync the iPad 2 because it is synced to another iTunes library.

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPad but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPad with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.
also, there are PhoneView and iRip.

I have two iTunes accounts and was wondering if i can merge them together. I've a new macbook pro and haven't plugged my iPhone in it yet in fear of losing my songs from the previous account.

Go to the Music section of your Library (very top-left corner) and see if your songs are there. The "Purchased" playlist may have been deleted or gotten corrupted, but if that happens it's not a big deal because your music should still be in your main Music Library.
If your music is NOT in the Music section of your Library, then go to the iTunes Store homepage and find the Quick Links list on the right side. At the top of that list, click Purchased and you can redownload all of your previous content that you might have lost.

    Hi Francis,
Could you please let me know how have you been trying to install Acrobat?
Please ensure that you are signed in as admin and antivirus software is disabled at the time when you install.

I can't watch YouTube videos on my brand new MacBook Pro with Lion. It says I need to download Adobe Flash Player but that won't install. Help!

The same thing happens to me, Safari asks me to update the Adobe FlasPlayer, I download, start the installation process, ask me my username and password in order to install, then see a window where I choose if I want to always install the updates , or ask first, or not inslate updates, and at this point it is not progress, I can not cancel the process, I turn off and turn on my machine.
    What can I do ..??
    Regards.

  • External monitor slowing down my MacBook pro

I recently hooked up a brand new external Acer G205HV monitor to my 15" MacBook Pro (4gb RAM) using the mini display port to DVI adapter from Apple. I have an GeForce 9400M graphics card with 256mb ram. Whenever I have the monitor plugged in it slows down my computer tremendously. When I do not use the monitor, my laptop is back to being lightening fast.
Expose` and the dashboard lag a ton, and basically the internet craps out. I can barely load websites and streaming video has become virtually impossible. I have tried running with the laptop open and in clam mode. Same result. At first I thought I had a virus, which would be very very rare, but after using the laptop without the monitor I realized that the monitor was slowing me down.
The max resolution that I am running the monitor at is 1600x900 @60Hz. The DVI adapter is supposed to support a much higher resolution than this. Is my graphics card the issue? Any help is appreciated. thanks!

I have the same problem with a spring 2008 MacBook (4,1) with 4 GB RAM running 10.5.8. Using a DVI external monitor, the wireless speed drops by at least half and usually more. This is the case whether using a Samsung 2443 BW at home or a Dell at work. I've tried different DVI cables, changing channels from 11 to 1, no difference.
Took it to the local Apple store where they had only a VGA monitor to test with and, strangely, the wireless was unaffected. It was a small ACER monitor, a 15-inch or so, not wide-screen. Have had no other opportunities to try a VGA monitor, as I don't have a mini-DVI to VGA adapter.
But I wonder if there's something there?
