Can I host a website on my BT Infinity connection

Hi,
I was wondering if it was against the T&Cs to host a website on my unused Home PC using the HH5 and Bt Infinity?

No its not against the T&Cs, but you have to remember that your public IP address is dynamic, and you will have to use a DDNS service like DynDNS to keep your hostname updated with your IP address.
I run a webserver on an ADSL connection, as shown in my signature below, and here

Your website must not be of a commercial nature, as that would be against the BT Residential Broadband T&Cs.
You also need to be aware of any security vulnerabilities that you may introduce to your network. If you can keep things simple, and avoid scripting and ASP/PHP, that will help a lot, as most attacks are against these services, if not fully secured.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

If it's really basic, consider re-bulding it in a browser-based site builder such as the free Weebly which offers Collaborative Website Editing. ...Since such sites are edited in a web-browser, they can be updated from any modern Mac or PC.

  • How can I host more websites on BC with student/teacher CC plan?

I have a student/teacher subscription to Creative Cloud.
I am using Adobe Muse to create websites, which only allows me to host 5 sites. Is there a way to add more sites without upgrading to a non-student/teacher plan?

If you plan on producing many websites for clients or yourself you should consider creating a Partner Account for BC.  There's a free partner account for BC that gives you access to a centralized place to manage all your client websites.
If you upgrade to a paid or premium paid partner account you can unlock other feature like full white-labelling of the BC Admin and email notifications, etc.  Paid partners can also accrue a percentage of their client's monthly hosting costs and if you refer another paid partner to the program you will get a cut of their earnings too.

  • How many websites can i host with a webCommerce plan?

I'm wondering how many websites I can host if I have a webCommerce plan? I see that it says 3 users, does that mean website essentially? I currently use Dreamhost and they allow me to host an extremely large number of websites for a low yearly price. I do want to be able to incorporate eCommece with Adobe Muse so the webCommerce sounds inticing but it's hard to justify without being able to host a wide varity of sites since the webCommerce plan is almost 5x's at much than Dreamhost.
If the answer is yes only 3 websites unless you pay more per site, then does that allow you to have sub-domains off of a website? For example if I had 3 sites total and one of them is www.bubslove.com - can I host www.party.bubslove.com without it taking up 1 user?
    Thank you

    Hi,
First off, aside from being a registrar, through its parent company New Dream Network, Dreamhost just offers hosting. A place on a server to store the website(s) you build from Scratch.
Business Catalyst offers a BaaS model, where all the struggle of developing an effective business platform, complete with site analytics, content management, social media sharing, phone and tablet support, sftp & file management, hosted e-mail accounts, dynamic menu builders, blogging engine, customer database, e-mail marketing, forums, e-commerce platforms, business reporting, event booking and webapps is turned into a process as easy as carrying out a few clicks.
Now, the 3 users you mentioned are actually the number of administrator accounts offered for a single BC account.
You could host multiple websites under a single bc account, as long as you keep some things in mind:
    - You can add multiple domains to a BC account, each one pointing to a separate page. You can add as many sub-domains as you like
    - Each "separate site" can be customized in any way you like, using separate templates and stylesheets and with custom templates for modules
    - System messages, invoices, the shopping cart, system e-mails, will each share a single template (though with some javascript some of these can also be adapted)
    - There will only be a single sitemap available
A significant advantage of this scenario would be to have a single CRM database for all the websites involved! Now, depending on the complexity of the sites involved this "multiple-sites-under-one-account" strategy can either be a piece of cake (a few microsites) or an elaborate adventure ( when talking about e-commerce, if you want customized system e-mails and a separate checkout experience for each site)
To conclude, the base of starting this comparison between Dreamhost and Business Catalyst is not justified. For whatever you would pay at Dreamhost, you'd only get storage. You'll add development & support costs To that. With BC's e-Commerce plan you get a complete business setup
    Kind Regards,

  • Can i host websites made on drupal anywhere?

i mean any web hsoting service....and can i edit drupal website in dreamweaver...like adding new features using php.....changing html etc.? ....and do i have to tell drupal that i
have made my website using their software?....
    thank you

No.  You can only host a Drupal site on a server that supports PHP and mySQL. Also, be aware that some modules/extensions of Drupal may not work on both Windows and Linux environments.  One big example that comes to mind is Panels.

  • Why can't I set up POP/IMAP emails for my Muse website in Business Catalyst? I don't have the option 'use this service for email as well as hosting the website' under Advanced options

Why can't I set up POP/IMAP emails for my Muse website in Business Catalyst? I don't have the option 'use this service for email as well as hosting the website' under Advanced options.
Is this due to my Hosting Plan? Appreciate any answers.

Your site is a CCM site which is on a WebBasics plan (This plan does not provide hosted emails on Business Catalyst).
If you want to create email addresses on this site, you would need to setup your email server elsewhere and configure the MX records on your site to point to that external mail server.
If you want to use Business Catalyst's hosted email services you would need to use a WebBasics+ or higher siteplan. To upgrade your CCM free site, Access your site's admin area  -> Site Management -> Upgrade Now -> choose the desired site plan and billing frequency -> Add personal and credit card details -> Submit.
Please refer this article about setting up email accounts on your BC site: http://docs.businesscatalyst.com/user-manual#!/site-settings/email-users
For setting up records to point to external mail server, check out http://docs.businesscatalyst.com/user-manual#!/site-settings/email-users/creating-inboxes- for-your-users

  • How can i host multiple email accounts?

    Hi there,
    I've a problem.
I have installed Lion os x server with the latest updates.
I need help to set up Separate E-Mail Accounts for each Domain, so each Domain receives it's own mail.
I have the following domains that i want to host with emails.
    www.example1.com
    www.example2.com
Hosting of website is not a problem. I have it working including PHP+MYSQL.
But now..How can i setup to receive and send emails with both domains? (www.example1.com and www.example2.com)
I want to have something like this:
    www.example1.com:
    [email protected]
    Hostname: server.example1.com
    Outgoing: server.example1.com
    and
    www.example2.com:
    [email protected]
    Hostname: server.example2.com
    Outgoing: server.example2.com
for www.example1.com it's the standard one and works fine (including apple Push). But realy confusing that i cannot get it work with example2.com.
Can anybody help me? I've searched the whole web but cannot find a good answer.
Thank you very much in advance!
    JBressers

You can run multiple domains in postfix/Mac OS X server, but don't get bogged down with the hostname.
There is nothing wrong with mail for a [email protected] being delivered to/from a server.example2.com (or vice versa). Most users never see the hostname of the server in the process, so don't bother trying to create multiple hostnames on the server to make this work. If you're really bothered just create records in your DNS that map back to the same IP address (e.g. server.example1.com -> 1.2.3.4, server.example2.com -> CNAME -> server.example1.com) so users can use either hostname.
For the accounts, there are two ways of managing multiple domains, depending largely on your comfort level with the command line vs. GUI, and how the users map.
If the usernames are the same (e.g. [email protected] is the same person as [email protected]) then the simplest thing to do is tell postfix to accept mail for both domains - mail addressed to either domain (example1.com or example2.com) will route to the same user's mailbox.
If your users are different then you can either use Mac OS X-style aliases or postfix aliases.
The Mac OS X-style aliases work through Workgroup Manager - you add all your users to the main directory, and create additional shortnames for each user's email addresses. For example, you might have a user 'joe' who is also '[email protected]', so add that second email address as a shortname.
Postfix-style aliases require setting up in the command line, where you create maps of email addresses to users, and is well documented on various postfix-driven web sites.

  • How can I create a website on iweb if my operating system is leopard?

I'm trying to create a website using iweb. Everytime I try to open an account with mobileMe I can't because I guess mobileMe will no longer function after June 30 I think. Can I still open the account and publish a website since it's still May?

No.  MobileMe stopped accepting new sign ups a long time ago in preparation for it no longer being here at the end of June.  If you already have a MobileMe account, then you can continue to publish there until the end of June, but otherwise no.
You can still publish a website though, but just use a proper host such as GoDaddy or HostExcellence or a lot of the others that are out there.

  • Is anyone here using RAGE to host your website?

They are a software company that is now hosting websites.
I've been looking at this company for my website, they say they work with iweb users, I never heard of them before and was wondering if anyone has any opinion.
I been hosting my website with mobileme for over two years but heard that MobileMe is for personal websites only and shouldn’t be used to host an serious website.
    Any thoughts?

@Old Toad: Thanks for the compliment on our software. It is very much appreciated and I am glad you like it.
We have actually been doing web hosting for over 10 years, just not under the RAGE brand.
@cake artist: Most web hosts will work with iWeb without any problems. Web hosting is very standard. It usually does not matter who you go with unless you require something special which most iWeb sites won't. The biggest advantage we offer is we are Mac guys who know iWeb very well and can help with any iWeb related problems. We can also guarantee 100% compatibility with our free iWeb SEO Tool so you only have to deal with one company if you have any issues.
We can offer phone support if you really need it, but we have found that providing step by step help over email is much more effective.
Anyways, just wanted to clarify and hope this helps!

  • Can i host an iweb site elsewhere

    Hello
i was wondering if i need to have a mobile account to host a iweb website or can i host it elsewhere.
    thanks

No, you don't need a MobileMe account — you can post your site elsewhere.
To find out how, in Web, click on the Help menu and choose +iWeb Help+. Then click on +"Publishing and viewing your website"+ and then on +"Publishing to a server or hosting service other than MobileMe"+.

  • Hosting IPv6 Website on Snow Leopard Server

I'm currently going through the IPv6 Certification offered by Hurricane Electric just for kicks and giggles. I already have a IPv6 tunnel running on my Time Capsule router(since my ISP is not providing IPv6 addresses yet) and have a valid IPv6 address manually assigned to my Snow Leopard Server.
I created an AAAA record (ipv6) on my external DNS host that points to the IPv6 address of my server. I also created a website at using the ipv6 subdomain, made sure the site pointed to the IPv6 address of the server and that it was hosted on TCP port 470 (I'm assuming this is the website port for IPv6 - at least Snow Leopard Server thinks so). I also made sure this port was being forwarded from my router.
When testing my website by using an external website tester it says that my AAAA hostname is correct but that it can't reach my website via IPv6. I did make sure to have an appropriate CNAME record for ipv6 on my internal DNS server but I can't add records - at least through Server Admin GUI - for IPv6 addresses. I know this isn't supported via Server Admin GUI but I can't find any documentation on how to add IPv6 addresses for the internal DNS server and if this is even necessary.
I can reach the site when I'm on my internal network - though I'm not sure if I'm reaching it via IPv6 or IPv4. Does anyone have any information or experience on hosting an IPv6 website on Snow Leopard Server?

I found the issue was that I was blocking all incoming connections via IPv6. I edited the firewall to allow ports 80 and 443 and also changed the site to use port 80 (I don't know why Server Admin changed the port to 470 when choosing the IPv6 address) and I was then able to access the website via IPv6.

  • Can you edit Muse website without Muse?

I'm creating a website for a community group.  I'd like them to be able to update their annoucements and events without my help if they need to.  For events, we can use a Google calendar but if they want to update the front page with an announcement or something, I'd like them to able to do so.  Some of the people are ok with code but do not have access to Muse software.
Can you edit Muse website without have Muse?
Should I create the website in a different way like Weebly, etc?
    Thanks

Yes, I've got the Creative Cloud thing so I was going to host it there.  It's a community garden that's just getting started and I'll be traveling for a few weeks this summer and I'm afraid that they may need to update things while I'm gone.  Plus I don't want to be the sole person who can keep it going.

  • Can't open my website outside of my web server

I have installed lion server on my mini. I want to use it to host my website url. www.bigislanprivatechef.com after setting up web server I can type the url into any of my browsers and my site fires right up. I can go to statcounter and see my hits register in my project. When I type my url into my iphone not connected to my network wifi I can't reach my site. I get the message the server timed out. My website was hosted with godaddy, and now I have  pointed the A name zone to my IP address. I have set port forwarding in server admin to all available ports for web service. Still nothing. Anyone have this problem and found a solution?

    Your DNS is wrong.
Assuming you mean bigislandprivatechef.com (you missed a 'd' in your original post)
    dig www.bigislandprivatechef.com returns:
    www.bigislandprivatechef.com. 3591 IN
    CNAME
    bigislandprivatechef.com.
    bigislandprivatechef.com. 3600
    IN
    A
    192.168.2.2
Your DNS is returning a private LAN address for your server (192.168.2.2) whereas it should return your public IP address on your router. The router (via port forwarding) takes care of routing the request to your server.

  • Domain Name & Hosting the Website

I have made a website for an event I am planning in March. Is there a place on Apple where I can purchase my domain name and host it there? or should I be using another place? I need it to be as cheap as possible...but still be a good place for hosting my website.
    Ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Is there a place on Apple where I can purchase my domain name and host it there?
No. Apple only provides hosting via MobileMe. If you want to purchase a domain name then go to a domain name provider like HostExcellence.com or GoDaddy.com. Both offer domain names and hosting services if you'd like to keep them all together.
If you host on MMe these AD topics and Apple documents will give you info on how to set it up:
