Can I hot swap the heads on a duck head adapter?

I want to string the AC cord behind a desk, but I want to be able to periodically switch between my MBP power supply and a USB one for my iPad.
Can I swap the heads while it's plugged in?
Thanks!

Yep.

  • Can I simply swap the power lead over & it will function the same?

Can I just use a UK plug on the EU item? I have an Apple airport extreme 5th  gen MD031Z/A  which I used during my time in Germany.  I was just wondering if it will work the same in the UK, if I simply replace the European power cord with a UK figure 8 power cord?
Are the MD031Z/A (EU version) and the MD031B/A (UK plug) exactly the same? Apart from the power supply?
I just don't want to damage the unit by swapping the cord?
    Thanks

The AirPort Extreme will run on 100-240 Volts and 50-60 Hz, so power wise, it will work just about anywhere in the world if you have the right power adapter or power cord for the wall sockets where you will be going.
Last time I checked the wireless standards were the same in the UK and the rest of Europe, except Switzerland, so things should be fine in that regard.

  • Can't set up the D-Link DWA-525 WiFi adapter (PCI) with netcfg

    Hi!
I'm having a lot of problems with installing Arch on my brand new PC...
    Is D-Link DWA-525 supported?
It uses WPA; i'm trying to get it to run with netcfg, tried both directly and via wpa_supplicant. The results aren't even consistent.
Without wpa_supplicant, even though the configuration file doesn't say to use wpa_supplicant, it comes back with an error "wpa_supplicant wasn't started, possibly bad configuration" (or something like this; sorry, i've rebooted to Windows now and don't remember what it said exactly)
With wpa_supplicant, sometimes after "/etc/rc.d/net-profiles restart" it gets back with simply "WPA authentication/association failed," sometimes it prints out several screens of some complaints and hangs.
Of course i might use something different than netcfg, but it seemed like the most powerful solution.
If you would advise what steps i should take to pinpoint the problem and fix it, this will be very much appreciated!!
    P. S. The config files are practically identical to the example ones and the ones in the Wiki, only the ssid and key are changed to appropriate ones. If it's necessary, i will reboot to Arch, write them down and post them here, of course.

  • Mobile phone Can't connect to the Notebook Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

    1. Create Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
              1.1 netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=NETWORK key=password keyUsage=persistent
              1.2. netsh wlan start hostednetwork
    2. Connect Network Sharing--open
    3. phone using wifi to connect the network
can't connect ,wha's wrong? notebook can surf through Ethernet connection.
If i set a static ip in the mobile phone which is the same net section like the Microsoft Virtual WiFi network, DNS:8.8.8.8 . Then can connected, but can't surf, anybody can give me some helps?
      Ethernet connection:
    1. ADSL dail mode
    2. Static IP is setted
    3. DNS is setted

    Hi midource,
Please update your wireless network adapter driver for good measure.
Check your phone connection properties see if it could get IP address from your computer properly.
Static IP doesn’t mean your phone has connected to network, if you set static IP the connection will show connected but without internet.
This issue could be caused by incompatible hardware with Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter hotspot, especially on some android devices.
But we still could do some configuration changing and give it a try.
Check properties of your adapter Ethernet connection->sharing, check “Allow other network to connect through…” and “Allow other network users to control…”
Tight click Ethernet connection-> properties->Advanced (advanced settings might be different depends on WIFI adapter manufacturer)
    Disable 802.11n mode
Disable 40 Mhz Bandwidth Compatibility Mode
Run Netsh command you mentioned above as administrator.
    Disable firewall temporarily.
Check your issue again after re-enable your Virtual Wifi Miniport connection.
    If the issue still persists
Please try other devices on your Windows 8.1 Virtual WIFI Miniport Adapter hotspot. If they works check compatibility issue with your phone manufacturer or set a router for network sharing.

As long as you use "safely remove hardware" feature, you should be OK.

  • Hot swapping backup drives

I have a SPARC T5120 server - running production. I want to hot-swap the SCSI backup drives. The original backup drives are not mounted file systems, the system is running UFS and the drives are not mirrored. Can I simply swap out and mount the drives, or do I need to run cfgadm or anything else in order to recognize the drives? The drives are the same size. This is in preference to powering down the server and rebooting with the new backup drives in place. System is running Solaris 10. All suggestions appreciated.

    Running cfgadm, I see this:
    Ap_Id Type Receptacle Occupant Condition
    c1 scsi-sata connected configured unknown
    c2 scsi-bus connected unconfigured unknown
    c3 scsi-bus connected unconfigured unknown
    The vebose listing is:
    Ap_Id Receptacle Occupant Condition Information
    When Type Busy Phys_Id
    c1 connected configured unknown
    unavailable scsi-sata n /devices/pci@0/pci@0/pci@2/scsi@0:scsi
    c2 connected unconfigured unknown
    unavailable scsi-bus n /devices/pci@0/pci@0/pci@8/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/scsi@8:scsi
    c3 connected unconfigured unknown
    unavailable scsi-bus n /devices/pci@0/pci@0/pci@8/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/scsi@8,1:scsi
The mounted, operating disks are /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s#, the backup disks are /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s#. Will running the cfgadm unconfigure have any effect on the mounted drives? Don't want to unconfigure my boot drives while the system is running production.

  • MSI 7125 board and Esata drive hot swapping

Hello. New member with a MSI-7125 board. I have the OEM board that Geeks had. Pretty much the same as the regular 7125. I want to use an external eSATA drive and attach it using a simple eSATA bracket that just connects to the board's internal sata ports, or I will use a PCI controller card. I'm told that either will work, and that I can have hot swapping on either too.  I want to be able to turn on and off the drive without turning off windows. I don't want to use the external drive as my main drive. Can anyone confirm that either interface method will work? I'm supposing the simple bracket might be faster since it will have no PCI bus to go through. Thanks

I've listed below a couple of sites that you may be intrested in. They offer the option of using eSATA or SATA on the rear plates. Don't confuse them as they use different plugs on the cables.

  • Occasional trouble with hot-swapping displays

    Hi there,
has anyone here ever experienced problems when hot-swapping the display of your Intel mac mini?
I sometimes disconnect my LCD-Display to use my PAL TV as output device. Most of the time it works fine, but sometimes, when I pull the Plug of my TV-DVI-Adapter, my Mac suddenly REBOOTS. Or the screen stays black when I reconnect a display.
    Any suggestions?

Boece's comments are appropriate in this situation - the display is not really intended to be hot-swappable, and as there are voltages involved and the interface isn't buffered, it's not difficult to imagine potential issues swapping connectors, particularly if the display(s) concerned are powered at the time along with the mini.
Best advice is don't do it. If you absolutely must, try with the display devices powered off. If you otherwise continue to swap connectors in this way, it's probable that you will continue to experience the same results!
You might find a video switch to be a less problematic solution.

  • We wish to keep a spare computer loaded with all the required editing software ready to swap out if we have a hardware issue, what can we do about licensing, can we hot desk to it?

We wish to keep a spare computer loaded with all the required editing software ready to swap out if we have a hardware issues. What can we do about licensing, can users hot desk to it? We have about 10 users with various software packages loaded on their current machines. Currently if one goes wrong we have no backup.

You will need to check the licensing requirements for the various software & operating systems that you use.
A much simpler way will be to make a clone of each machines hard disk drives on seperate external bootable drives using Carbon Copy Cloner or Superduper. You can then keep a couple of blank machines and boot from the an external drive in an emergency and carry on working. At the end of the work day you can then restore the clone to the internal hard drive of the affected machine, and leave it to run over night to complete the restore.
This method would probably be the cheapest way to implement a disaster recovery option as you will not need to pay for new licenses or 10 new machines.
Just make sure that each machine has an external HDD attached and a regular clone being made on a schedule, this way you will always have an up to date clone to work from.
There are many ways to acheive what you require, NAS etc.

    Hi Jay,
Be aware that "Freeze Header Rows" and "Freeze Header Columns" apply only to rows and columns that are Header rows or Header columns. You can have up to five Header rows, Five Header Columns (and five Footer rows) on a Numbers Table.
"Header rows" is a special designation. Besides being able to be frozen, Header and Footer rows are not included in formulas referencing whole columns, making it possible to place formulas such as =SUM(B) at the top (or bottom) of column B without causing a self-reference error, These designated rows are also not included in sorts of the rows in a table.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

Go to the "File" menu, then "Print." The window that appears will have three drop-down menus at the top.
    The first is labeled "Printer",
    The second is "Presets".
The third is unlabeled but has "Copies & Pages" selected by default.
Click on that third menu and select "Firefox" near the bottom of the list.
