Can I import a Captivate 7 file into Premiere Elements 7?

Hi,
I am trying to record my screen so I produce a short explainatory video with it. I have both Premiere Elements 11 and Captivate 7, yet can't seem to open the Captivate file in PE11.
Is this impossible, or am I just being thick?
Thanks
Pat

Hi Pat
Normally what you record in Captivate you edit there. But we have many questions before a coherent answer can be provided.
How did you record? Captivate offers a sort of "stop motion" animation where each screen capture becomes a different slide and you add elements to the slides, then produce the output. It also offers a "full motion" type of capture where you end up with a single video you then edit.
Sounds like you may be using the latter.
What are you hoping to achieve by using something like Premiere Elements to make edits?
Cheers... Rick

  • Can I import Mac alias files into Premiere Pro CC?

I am trying to keep my folder structure clean and organized, and am using alias files to gather miscellaneous B-roll video files into a new project folder without removing them from their permenant location and without creating duplicates. Alias files on a mac are basically shortcuts to the original file. FCP 7 and FCP X will import these alias files with no problems, but when I try to import them into Premiere Pro, it says they are unsupported file types. Is there any way to make this work?

Thanks, I was prepared to hear that I would have to make a copy. One note though, is that when i import the alias file into a Final Cut Pro project, it automatically links to the original permanent file location, so if the alias gets deleted, it doesn't matter becuase it is linked to the original.
To answer your question, though, the idea for using alias files is to keep the server clean, so that multiple video editors don't keep copying the same files multiple times into their project folders when they start a new project, and then no one goes back and cleans it up, so you end up with Terabytes of duplicate files on the server. I guess the other option is to train everyone to hunt for the original files themselves and import from that location instead of their own project folders.

  • Importing a "pse" file into Premiere Elements

I need to know if I create an album in Premiere Photoshop, why can't I import it into Premiere Elements?   A message comes up with "this type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed"  Can I install the correct codec? and from where and how?
    Hope someone can help
    Thanks Trish

    Welcome to the forum.
As Steve G. points out, the PSE file is the PSE Project file, and basically an XML database. This ARTICLE, while addressing PREL (Premiere Elements Project files) will give you some background on Project files in general.

  • Problem importing some .MOV files into Premiere Elements 11

    Hello,
I am trying to import film footage into Premiere Elements 11 and am coming across a rather confusing problem. All of the footage is in .mov format and all of it was taken on the same device on the same day with the same settings.
When I try to import the footage, some files import ok, others will not import at all and I get a message saying 'The importer reported a generic error'. It seems very odd to me that some .MOV files are OK and others are not.
This same footage can easily be imported into Premiere Elements 10 and into Windows Movie Maker - which makes me think the issue is with Premiere Elements 11.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?
    Thanks

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it? Did you use Premiere Elements to get the video from the camcorder to your computer?
Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime installed on your computer?

  • Can't import edited Soundbooth file into Premiere?

    Hi,
I've been editing a project and used Soundbooth to clean up the sound.  Worked well with several clips, the edited version appeared on the Premiere Timeline automatically, but the most recent one doesn't seem to import to the Timeline.  It did at first, but then then the sound was out of sync, not sure why (Perhaps because I had already put an audio effect on the original audio, which I've since deleted.)  I used command Z to get rid of the out of sync audio.  That worked and the non-edited sound version appeared back on the Timeline.  But now I want the edited sound version to appear back on the Timeline again (in sync, hopefully), but I can't get it to import from Soundbooth automatically as it did before.  What can I do?  I saved the audio in Soundbooth and it's still there with all the edits I've made.  I also tried to click on the un-edited audio in the Premiere Timeline and send the audio back to Soundbooth, but that only created a second, unedited file.  I don't want to have to reedit everything again, so what can I do?  Can I get the edited sound file to appear on the Timeline manually, or could I copy the edits from the first file to the second file and then have that appear in Premiere?  I'm using CS4.
    Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Never mind, looks like I fixed it importing the file from Premiere Pro and dragging and dropping it onto the Timeline.

  • Can't Import .avi xvid file with Premiere Elements 11

I just purchased Premiere 11, and it won't import an .avi xvid file. The codec is installed as reported by G-Spot. And the file imports to Win Movie Maker just fine. Any known problems here?
    Thanks

I have used Premiere Elements 11 for a few years and never had any problems with codecs, it ran .avi files fine, but then my hard drive started sending failure eminent warnings so I saved everything I could (for some reason I was never able to save a backup with my old system), I got a new hard drive, loaded a clean new Windows 7 install and built my system from there.
When I got to the Premiere Elements 11 and used it I noticed it came up with the "no codec for .avi" message that I had never seen before and would not play the same .avi movies that I had played with it hundreds of times before.
I was a little baffled so I went back and installed my old Premiere Elements 8 that I used to use and same codec message came up.
I remembered that I had some other video players installed on my old system so I went back and installed the old players one by one.
    1. Cyberlink PowerDVD from the original Dell install didn't fix the codec problem.....
    2. I had the "REAL" player on my old system so I installed it next and it didn't fix the codec problem....(The new "REAL" player live is a little to aggressive for me so I uninstalled it when it didn't fix my problem)
    3. I had Quicktime installed so I installed it again and BINGO, my Premiere Elements 11 now plays .avi files like it used to.
I won't guarantee it will work for everyone but the basic Quicktime player is free so it won't hurt to try it (And it definitely worked for me)

One thing to point out, if you are doing this with the trial. While it is 100% (nothing crippled, or omitted), the trial WILL put a watermark on the finished Project. If you are doing this for work, be aware of that watermark. This http://forums.adobe.com/thread/433730?tstart=0 will give you some tips and background.
Good luck, and I do not want you to be surprised and mad, when you get that watermark.

  • Importing project files into Premiere Elements 7

I have created a new project, imported several video clips and then created a video. It was only at the point of creating the video that I reliased that I had not created the project with the correct settings.
Although the video looked fine in the editing window, the final video had black bars at the sides, and above above and below the video, and fairly think black bars. I've tried exporting as different formats, and changing the aspect ratio, but this has not helped. I've attached a jpeg of what the video looks like in Quicktime.
Other video editing software I have used, has the ability to change the project settings after it has been created, and give a warning to the user about possible problems they may encounter by doing so.
This does not appear to be the case with Adobe Premiere Elements 7, and it is extremely frustrating!!
One thing which appears to be possible with Premiere Pro, and was also available on other editing software I have used, is the ability to import projects.
So... does anyone know if it is possible to import a Premiere Elements 7 project file into Premiere Elements 7? The aim here is to create a project with the correct settings, and then import the existing project file into the timeline.
I've tried hacking the project file, which has improved the video slightly, but still not what I was expecting.
    Cheers
    Paul

This problem should have been picked up by Adobe's test analyst during testing of the product.
I am sorry, but I am not following you on this. There are Presets to match many media types. I am not at all sure how Adobe could anticipate that a user would choose the wrong one.
As I said, PrPro CS4 will both allow you to Import your .PREL (with the caveats mentioned), and work on the Project with Sequence settings to match. Unfortunately, PrE is a much less sophisticated and expensive program, than is PrPro CS4.
I'd be happy to Import your file, in PrPro with the proper Presets, but the rub would be that PrE cannot Open .PRPROJ files, so you still could not edit it.
Sorry, but the first rule of any NLE is to establish Presets that match one's Assets. PrPro CS4 (not before that version) allows one to cover their mistakes a bit, but there is still some work getting the improperly set Sequence's material into a new, properly set Sequence.
If you have access to PrPro CS4, and can finish your Project there, that would be the best. Next would be to create a New Project with the proper Presets and chalk up the lost time as a learning experience.
Sorry ot bear the bad news.
    Good luck,

  • CANNOT IMPORT FCP  .XML FILE INTO PREMIERE PRO CS5

    Hi,
    Camera used:-Sony Pmw Ex3
    Footage       :- XDCAM  sp(1440 * 1080i) PAL
Edited in      :-final cut pro 7
Error            :- failed  to import .xml file into premiere pro cs5
I tried  to import the .xml file into premiere CS5 ,it asked for the media files  to relink .whn i linked the .mp4 files it showed the  error messege "The  selected file cannot be linked becouse it has 2 audio channel(s) and  the clip was created with 1 audio channel(s).
then i tried to relink the .mov instead of .mp4 file (which i  used in final cut pro on apple machine)i got  the error "Codec missing  or unavailable"
what should i do???..i almost done all the  editing in final cut pro and i bought the adobe coz i thought i can  finish all the pending FCP projects in Premier Pro..??

What is the CODEC in your MOV file(s)? MOV is but a "wrapper," like AVI. This ARTICLE will give you some background. It could be that you just need the proper CODEC, or it could be that it is a Mac-only CODEC, and then you will need for the producer to Export in another CODEC, that is PC-compatible.
This ARTICLE will give you some background on CODEC's, in general.
    Good luck,

  • Can't import any .psd files into after effects.

    Hello all.
I was using CS5 master collection without issue, for a year.
Decided to upgrade to the CS6 master collection and that’s when the problems began.
For example, I can’t import any .psd files into AE.
All files are saved in RGB mode.
The previous files were made on CS5.
I made a new .psd file in CS6 with just a couple of layers on it, couldn’t import that either.
I’ve tried Ctrl-alt-shift to delete preferences, that had limited success. I can import a file and do a little bit of work on it but as soon as I close the file down and opened it up again, it does not recognise the .psd file.
The errors I’m getting in AE are many
    For example:
After Effects warning: Reading past end of file
After Effects error: Could not open intro.psd because it is not a valid Photoshop document
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message:<8104><dynamiclink><5>C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro exe
After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialise PSL
    I have un-installed and re-installed many times.
    I’m using Windows 8, with 32ram. Hard drives C: 100mg, D: 2 Tb
I’ve tried installing on both drives, still the same thing happens.
Does anyone out there in Adobe Land have any ideas?
    Totally confused
    Cheers,
    Gary.

    Hi Arie,
    Thanks for your response.
It actually happens with every .psd file regardless of size or specs.
All the other programs in the CS6 master collection work fine, except for AE and PS.
I tried the small file. Created a small file, 100 px by 100px 72dpi, just with a gradient background. Same thing, not enough memory to initialise PSL.
I got the adobe cleaner, and re-installed on my system (again) .... same thing.
As long as I open AE with doing ctrl-alt-shift every single time or export layers from PS individually I seem to be OK.
The problem is far from solved, so I guess i just have to put up with workarounds.
Thanks for taking the time to respond

  • How do I import an MKV file into Premiere Pro CS6?

How do I import an MKV file into Premiere Pro CS6?

Premiere Pro CS6 doesn't support MKV formats. To import MKV to Premiere Pro CS6, a recommended solution is to convert MKV to AVI.
I've been reading so many different forums on how to convert MKV to AVI. Finally, I summarised three solutions:
First one: HandBrake . This tool is a free and open-source multi-threaded transcoding app. It supports nearly any videos including MKV format and has Mac version and Windows version.
    Cons:
    1. HandBrake is too professional to handle for most people;
    2. It doesn't support MOV as output format.
Second one: there are many third party software which supports converting MKV to AVI. I just test one of them. It's professional yet easy to use and the service is excellent. And there is a step by step guide about how to use this tool .
    Cons:
    1. Most of them are not free.
Third one: Online-Converter . This kind of converter does a great job on file conversion.
    Cons:
    1. Like most online converters, the free version of this tool only allows you to convert videos smaller than 100MB. It's too small for video conversion;
2.Your MKV video should be upload to the internet to be converted. This means the risk of pravite information leak is possible.

  • How can I import a pdf file into numbers so it will open with a click

How can I import a pdf file into a spreadsheet so that it will open with a click?

You can link to a webpage or an email in Numbers-- that's it.
The best way I found to do this is to enable websharing on your machine (see this article if you are running 10.8: http://lowendmac.com/crews/12lc/web-sharing-mountain-lion.html)
You can then place your pdf files in the folder /Users/<your user name>/Sites/<somefolder>
Then link to this using the url  "<your machine name>.local/~<your user name>/<somefolder>/<pdf Name>
My machines name is "Proton" (you can get this from the System Preferences > Sharing pane)
    My user name is "wayne"
so I stored a pdf file (DM00027543.pdf) in the folder "/User/wayne/Sites/PDFTest"
and stored the URL "http://proton.local/~wayne/PDFTest/DM00027543.pdf" in the "URL" field of the Hyperlink inspector
