Can I import clips using a frame rate of 60 or higher?

I have a sony cx260v that allows me to record in a rate of 60 fps. However when I attempt to upload the footage taken in this frame rate to iMovie 11 9.0.4 it shows as a blocked clip and does not allow me to upload.
Any ideas?

Yes, you can re-import them, but it's not that straightforward, and you loose some quality in the process. Search for "MPEG Streamclip" or "DVD camcorder" in this forum, and you will find lots of answers.
Alternatively, you can make data DVDs with your DV clips. Simply pop in an empty DVD, and drap the DV clips you want to export into the burn folder. A normal DVD can hold about 20 minutes of DV clips, a dual layer DVD twice as much.

  • How can I edit multiple clips with different frame rates on the same timeline

how can I edit multiple clips with different frame rates on the same timeline

You do not want to edit material from different frame rates on one timeline. You CAN do this, but it is a very bad idea - and this is why.
Once you establish the sequence frame rate - lets say it is PAL material at 25fps, any material that you drop into the sequence other than 25 fps will have to be changed to play at 25 fps. If the material you add is NTSC (29.97), FCP will DROP 5 frames per sec to bring the frame rate down to 25 fps. Which 5 get thrown away? Every 6th one. This yields a funky cadence that becomes even more complex as as there are also interlaced fields (DV/NTSC is an interlaced format). Oh, and by the way, the image sizes are different as well. DV/PAL has 576 lines of resolution and DV/NTSC has 480. FCP has to scale up the NTSC to fit the PAL frame.
You do not want FCP adjusting these things on the fly. You want to do a thoughtful (and time consuming) conversion so that you end up with all your material in one format with the best possible image from the conversion process. Compressor can do an adequate job with Frame Controls turned on. The Natress Standards Conversion FCP plugin is another way to go. A third option is to find a post house that can do the conversion for you using a hardware based process.
The good news is, once everything is in the same format, editing it will be painless and the output process very quick.
Whatever frame rate/ image size you select, I'd suggest using ProRes for the codec. It is 4:2:2 color and will withstand color correction and composting with much more grace than any variant of DV based codecs.
    Have fun.

  • Can not import clips from Canon HF100 to iMovie '08 & '09 using iMac

    Hi Everyone,
    Have a strange problem.
I have a Canon HF100 and iMovie '08 (before) & '09 (now) on both our machines
    (MacPro & iMac).
When importing clips using the "import from Camera" we get an error message on the iMac but works great on the MacPro. Both system are using 10.5 and we tried it with iMovie '08 and '09.
When importing from other camera (not AVCHD) but AVI or motion JPEG it work ok.
    Any Ideas?
Could it be the graphic cards?
BTW: we did a new reinstall on the iMac.
Thanks for the feedback and support - Mac user discussions are the best !!!

    Hello All,
I have been attacking this problem for a few hours and I have found that if you turn off and or make all network items inactive the camera will immediately be recognized by iMovie.
Took a long time to figure this out. Not sure why this is happening but it has fixed my problem.
Before this fix I would intermently get the camera and its memory sticks in the usb slot to recognize in iMovie.
Now all is well and works every time as long as I turn off or make things inactive
    Hope this works for you!

  • Relink project clips with different frame rate

Somehow the clips in my project sequence ended up with a different frame rate (25) than the original media files (23.95), and they are no longer linked -- maybe this happened during import from iMovie.  When I try to relink project files to source media, I get an error message saying they cannot be relinked because they have a different frame rate.  I changed the sequence framerate to 23.95 (by creating a new project with 23.95 as the frame rate, then copying and pasting the other timeline into it), but all the clips remain at 25, so the problem remains.
How can I change the clip properties to frame rate 23.95 so I can link to the original media?
    Thanks.

The media got unlinked importing the project and events from iMovie to Final Cut.
I've attached screen shots with all the specs.

  • Imported quick time movie frame rate

I have just used Quicktime to convert some old royalty free archive footage. When the conversion is done, the new movie is in the correct format for PAL at 25 frames per second. However, when I import into FCE4, the frame rate of the imported movie drops back to 10fps. Any ideas?

What are the specs of your clips before conversion? How are you going about converting it exactly? What are the specs of your clips according to Quicktime Movie Info after conversion?

  • Editing clips and preserving frame rate

Occassionally I take a rather long video and a significant portion of it has no value to the final project.  I am aware there is a way to only import parts of the clip directly from the computer, but as I understand it the file will end up on my internal hard drive.  I would prefer to keep all of my clips on an external drive.
Question one: Is there a way to do that?
I have some larger video files that are on my external drive and I would only like to import part of them. I want to preserve the frame rate at 60 or 120fps so I can get good slow motion when I edit the video in my project. I tried to edit the file in FCPX and then export it, but I can only find a way to export it at 30fps.  I was hoping to export and archive those files for future projects and then delete the larger video files.
Question two:  Is there a way I can edit clips that were shot at 60 or 120 fps so I can then re-import them into FCPX for future use?
Not sure if compressor can help me with any of this.  Any help would be appreciated!

    1.  You understand wrongly. The imported media goes to whichever drive you designate. The file exports in whatever frame rate the project is. If you're trying to create slomo with your 60p media you edit in a 30p project. That's what you export. You can edit in a 60p project but that would defeat the purpose of bring able to confirm the video for slomo.
    2.  You might be able to edit in the QuickTine player to trim a shot.

  • How to sync NTSC and PAL clips to same frame rate for multicam edit

    Hi there,
First time poster so sorry for the newbie question. I'm trying to get 2 standard NTSC clips and 1 standard PAL clip about a hour long each which shot the same event at the same time, to sync up so that I can go to multi-cam and edit them like a movie sequence. I tried that, but they start unsyncing about 10 minutes in. I gather it's because of the different frame rates. I tried using "interpret footage" and changed the PAL 25fps to 29.97fps and everything got sped up. I tried rendering the PAL clip as an NTSC clip but it ended up looking a bit fuzzier. As I want to end up with an NTSC clip in the end, how can I make these clips sync up properly?
Any, tips to help this newbie greatly appreciated with many thanks.

    Hi Jonathan,
It's not always so easy to do NTSC <-> PAL conversions, and it's impossible to do them in Premiere while maintaining any degree of quality.
You can do a good job of this with AviSynth (freeware) but the learning curve may be a bit steep for a newbie. I also hear that ProCoder ($500+) does a good job of this but I've never tried it.
As for the sync, you can chop up your PAL clip within the muticam sequence (leaving some "holes") and match up particular points manually. You'll obviously have to edit around the holes.

  • CS6 imports file at incorrect frame rate

    Hi all,
Exported recordings from Screenflow and using Premiere Pro CS6 to edit them.
We have two screen captures from Screenflow made on the same day. We exported both with the same settings into .mov files.
part-1.mov imports correctly at 25 fps.
    part-2.mov imports incorrectly at 2.5 fps. ???
We tried the following without remedy:
    - restarting Premiere Pro
    - re-exporting part-2 in Screenflow
    - opening the exported file in QuickTime and export it again using QuickTime, as QuickTime sees the frame rate correctly
    Still no luck. We're stuck.
part-2 does look choppier in Premiere than it does in Screenflow. It is visibly dropping frames.
To add more frustration, Premiere imports the file with the correct duration, about 1:03:31. So if we mess around with the frame rate in Clip > Modify > Interpret Footage..., it speeds up the clip and has the wrong duration.
Does anyone know what's happening? Is there a way to modify the frame rate of a clip without affecting its duration?
    Thanks,
    paula

  • Is this a bug?: copied movie clip has wrong frame rate and ruins the main movie's sync

    Hello,
I am trying to copy a movieclip with a frame rate of 30 frames per second to a movie that has a frame rate of 30 frames per second. Both movies are actionscript 3 movies. When I do this, my copied movie clip's frame rate reverts to 12 frames per second and all my audio synched animation is trashed. Then when I change it back manually to 30 frames per second it makes my main movie's stage animation go crazy at full possible speed and the audio is all out of sync. I have not set export for sharing or action script on this movie clip. I've tried other movie clips that are 30 frames per second and it is all crazy!
Is this a bug? What can I do? I've got 100s of movie clips I need to make. I can't keep remaking them just because flash has a screw loose. I'll go crazy!

Oh sorry I goofed! My main time line is 12 fps! I can't belive I didn't see this before.

  • How can I import clips as HD from my Canon FS300

    Hello all:
Newbie here.  I am using Premier Pro CS 5.5 and a Canon FS300 camcorder.  The camcorder generates .MOD files that I can successfully import to PrPro.  The .MOD files are HD 1440x1080 and when I look at them on VLC they appear as HD clips.  After importing to PrPro, however, they look to be 4:3 aspect ratio and kind of squashed horizontally.  When I create a new sequence I select HD>HDV 1080i or one of the other HD selections -- it doesn't seem to matter.
Is there a way to import my clips from the camera's SD card such that I get HD format in the Source panel?
    Thanks,
    Kevin H.

Well, I followed John Smith's advice and started with the thread he quoted in his reply to my original post.  This led me to a couple of other interesting threads, and I found Gilles Bihan's Converio conversion program for Windows.  I contacted Gilles to ask if he had a Mac version and he sent me this link:
    http://www.converio.fr/iconverio_189.htm
for use with Macs.  It's in French, but I was able to dicipher it enough to download the free version and run it against my Canon FS300 .MOD files and it worked!  It generated .AVI files that successfully loaded into Premier Pro as widescreen clips.  Hooray!  Thanks, Gilles.  M. Biher also offers additional functionality for ten to twenty five Euros.  I may go for the upgrade to see if I can convert to MPEG2.
    Problem solved for now.
    Thanks for the help.
    Kevin H.

  • Poor Result using Panasonic Frame Rate Converter.  Please Help!

    Hey All,
Myself and a crew of other university filmmakers shot some footage at 720P and 60 FPS on the Panasonic HVX-100 with the hopes of converting it to 24fps for smooth slow motion. We are using FCP 5.1.2 and the panasonic DVCPROHD Frame Rate Converter Tool. I am almost certain I am using the correct workflow for this, but the result yields footage that seems to be at the right speed, but is very jumpy, as if its only playing every 4th frame or so. I tried exporting the footage off the timeline as well to check and make sure it wasnt a playback problem, and it wasnt. It appears as if the converter is working incorrectly. This slow motion is vital for our project and I'm at my wits end trying to figure it out. Any help?

Ok. I tried converting making sure that i didnt remove any frames on the import from the raw P2, as well as for the export. i tried all the combos of this. I still get the jumpy slow motion because of repeatyed frames. I did notice a combo in these repeated frames, it will play 3 of one frame, then 2 of another. could this be a pulldown problem somewhere?
could you guys outline the settings you use to import (capture and editing timebases) as well as to edit on, and to process slow motin. I just want to make sure im not missing anything.
The help is SO awesome. thanks for trying to work through this with me.

  • How can I import data using .dmp into the table which has more columns then in import

I am building the history for warehouse purpose on Oracle 8i database and want to use the old import (.dmp) files (from oracle 7.3.4) to import data but the underlying table is having few more columns which are not in my old DMP file .. how can I import the data into these altered tables while using the same *.imp files .
    Any solutions ?

That is the most obvious solution .. but think of the case when my operational database which is the source of my data is undergoing changes every quarter i.e after every 3 months there are some changes on underlying table structures which means structures of my import files will always be different after evry quarter .. you can imagine the number of temporary import structures I need to create .. can't there be a solution wherein I can write an SQL over the import file to read the data in required format ..

  • Can't import photos using USB cable

I have a Canon 5D Mark III and LR 4.3. I normally import photos using a CF card reader. However, I'm on vacation and only have the USB cable that connects the camera to my Macbook Pro. I've used this successfully in the past to import photos, but I'm now getting the following error:
I get this whether I select one or multiple photos (there are about 195 on the card right now).
    Any ideas?

When I plug my 5DIII into the Macbook Pro, I don't see it on the desktop. It does appear when I open Image Capture or Lightroom. I tried importing from Image Capture, but that doesn't seem to work either. It hangs on the first file. Is there any way to get the 5DIII to appear on the desktop so I can just drag the files over?

  • Can't import images using iCloud on iPad and Mac

Yes. I have followed the "easy" instructions of the Apple site for setting my up my icloud account and sign in with both devices. Yes I have seen every imaginable youtube video of how to's and followed the steps.  I am connected to the internet, signed in with icloud in both devices, ticked automatic upload of photos, photo sharing, etc. Now where do I find the images? are they automatically imported NO and if I enter icloud from the internet can I see my images NO!
and if i followed the easy steps to import them using iphoto, it just says something stupid like "import the photos" yeah...how???!!

I have an Ipad2 and a Macbook pro, latest software versions downloaded today
Which software versions exactly? "latest" may depend on your hardware. MacOS X10.9.1)? iPhoto 9.5.1?.
Othe fact is when i go to the icloud.com the photos are not there either. I made an album on the ipad and "shared" manually the photos for icloud and nope, it doesnt work.
How did you share the album?
You can share to a shared Photo Stream and publish that stream as a public webpage on your iCloud webpage. Is taht what you have done? Then you need to use exactly the url, that is given, when you publish the webpage. It is not linked on your iCloud page.
If I wanted download manually the photos to iphoto I cant I cant because the icloud icon doesnt appear in the left menu of iphoto like the one you are showing, it doesnt display either a shared button like the one you have in your screen and it doesnt explain at all how to import images.
Let's compare the settings on your Mac:
In System Preferences - you say you are signed into iCloud, o.k.
Did you enable the options for "Photos"?
Check, if bot "My Photo Stream" and "Photo Sharing" are enabled.
Otherwise iPhoto will not show the iCloud options.
In iPhoto you should see the iCloud panel I posted as a Tab in the iPhoto Preferences panel.
(My screenshots are done in iPhoto 9.5.1 and MacOS X 10.9.1)
