I have a variable which has to get value from another variable.
For this I can write coder under I_Step =2 and make the variable not ready for input.
But I have to allow user also to enter some date.
Please help me in regarding this..

Not clear what you trying to achieve, try to go thru given info.
The statement 'select 1 from dual' in init blocks works using connection pool, but the same will not work in report since report understands Presentation Catalog objects.
In the report your query suppose to be like select 1 from Subject area where someColumn >0

I am using the website widget to bring up some customized content during the course.
The URL contains a variable which will be different for every user.
I can't find the option of including a variable in the URL with the widget.

I publish in both swf and html5 formats so that the course functions on all device platforms.
A swf only solution would preclude IOS since it doesn't support flash.

In OBIEE we do so by using session variables, so just wanted to ask if we can use the same session variables in BI Publisher as well
ie can we include the where clause in the Data Models SQL Query like

Open URL including a variable

I want to open a specific URL in Safari which has to be like this: +http://website.com/variableothertext
where variable is a variable I created before. I tried the action "Obtain specified text", linked to "Show webpage", but I can't figure how to include my variable into the text field of "Obtain specified text", since when I try to drag that variable into it, it simply creates an "Obtain variable value" action.
What should I do instead?

How can I include results of a subsequence, which runs in a new thread, in the main sequence test report

Hi!
I', m working with TestStand Version 4.2.1. I have a main sequence, which calkls different subsequences. All these steps are properly reported. One of subsequences runs as "new thread". How can I include its results in common test report of the main sequence?
I have markes variables of the subsequence as it is requred for test report (it works OK if it is not a new thread). If the the numerical test, which is executed in this subsequence is correct, I get no results at all. If the numeric test failed I get somewhere in the main sequence report a "red message", that test failed whithout any reference to the step or values of vaiables which were not correct.
I tried an option "On the fly" in the Report Configuration , but haven' got any useful results. What shall I do?

Hi,
I tried it but without success:
1) I got a reference to the Thread as "Locals.Step1=RunState.Thread" for every of 2 steps which start a thread
2) I put both "Waits" after steps with (and without) threads, at the same place, where they were before
3) The sequence run OK, but when it came to Wait for Thread 1 it waited for ever, I had to terminate sequence
Does it mean, that I got a false reference (suppose No - please, have a look at attached pic)?
Or does it mean, that Waits are badly placed in the sequence (threads are already terminated)? Here is a pic of sequeces calls with Wait after them.

Can I include external usb drives and sticks in Time Machine backups?
This was the question I searched a week for. My machine is a MBAir with Yosemite. I have a bunch of USB HD and sticks. This is a sharing of what it took to solve. I lost a couple of important document revisions lately because of not having differential backups on them, so wanted to include them in Time Machine.
Yes it can, I found. But it's a wee bit backwards. And apparent inconsistencies drive you crazy. Time Machine is supposed to do this by default, and wants you to tell it what NOT to include. Trouble is, formats create many troubles.
But the USB sticks and HD's you buy are PC formatted. And you'd like to share, as the Apple does with FAT16, FAT32, and exFAT (to overcome the 4G size limit on the others). Even NTFS can be plugged in and be read-only. Turns out you just can't incorporate into TM backups.
Open Time Machine Options, and look at the drives listed in the exclusion window. Drives that you know to be plugged in and registered by Finder, may or not be registered in the exclusion window, and if registered and their icons may be bright or dimmed. Bright will NOT be included. Dimmed are excluded. Normally the operation is to use the or to exclude these drives from your next BU operation. (this instruction is lost the next time in manual mode). So if a drive or stick is shown and is bright it WON'T be backed up. If you it from the window, then it will grey out and WILL be backed up. If it's not there to offer you exclusion, you can browse to such a file or device so you can exclude it. TM's exclusion window will show the PC formats: FAT16, FAT32, and exFAT greyed out (as not included). NTFS is bright looking like it might work, but when doesn't dim, it disappears, and is ignored in the actual BU.
Sources are supposed to be included in the backup if it isn't shown bright in the exclusion window. In this respect I only use TM manually, and not for programmed BU's, so I cannot speak to that.
If everything you have is formatted for the Apple disc system (Mac OS Extended) then there are no contradictions or partial equivalences. The mounted disc or stick will show in TM exclusions window, and if you it, you'll see it in the Time Machine pile of calendared directories, with all the files. And of course it will do the differential backups for it that we use TM for in the first place. Just remember to prepare the BU by not excluding.
BUT NOW THE VARIABLES. It now depends upon the formats. I use the Paragon NTFS program to permit writing NTFS. (Apple can normally read but not write NTFS). Paragon is lovely because for normal computer use, I can read and write both Apple and PC files and disc formats in Finder (for 3 years now). But Time Machine cannot be reached by Paragon so it's NTFS behaviors are outrageous. Paragon reaches Disk Doctor so you can read, write, format and heal both Apple and PC formats. And this really confused things respecting Time Machine. I literally worked through every variable, from stick to disc to prove what did work, and when false appearances of working showed up.
Respecting that very Time Machine display of Finder windows piled backwards through time there's a confusing bug. When first opened, TM shows NOW as the current setup and works just like a Finder window in present time. And the outboard discs and sticks show as in Finder. BUT working back in time, the left window DOES NOT SHOW THE CONDITIONS AT BACKUP but rather in all left windows shows the present setup. So you need to work from the right hand side dates and times to go back and see when you had that stick or HD plugged in. And then, finally, you will see the files you wanted saved. But if there is a stick on the left than TM doesn't like but Finder likes you'll see it left but nothing will be in the files. Clicking on the pretender just jumps to the root.
My Disk Doctor provisions (with Paragon) show, Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive Journaled), MS-DOS (FAT), exFAT, Windows NT Filesystem, Windows NT Filesystem (compressed). It's a better utility than in Microsoft and I use it for such maintenance.
Bottom line, I like TM very much. 2 years ago I lost my air and TM was able to reconstruct my machine many times in the course of the troubleshooting - all the way from the start to the last without ever missing a beat or a file. So I accept this limitation and make copies to another HD formatted in NTFS when I work on PCs.
Hope's this sorts out being lost in the desert for a few of you.

Storing normal data files on the Time Capsule is unfortunately not as easy as dropping the folder on the Time Capsule.
Open up Macintosh HD on the Mac
Look for the SHARED heading on the left
Click on the Time Capsule icon and a folder named "Data" will appear (unless you have renamed it)
Double click the "Data" folder to mount the drive on the desktop. You may need to enter the device password for the Time Capsule when you do this the first time
Once the drive icon is on the desktop, you can drag data to the icon and drop it there. Double click the icon to open up the drive and see the files

Can operations on volatile variables be reordered

I am reading "Java Threads 3rd edition"(Oreilly). The book covers J2SE1.5 so it must also cover thread programming in the new JMM.
In chapter5 at "The effect of reodering statements", there is an example code as shown below.

Then the author state that
*"It doesn't make any different whether the variables are defined as volatile: statements that include volatile variables can be reordered just like any other statements"*
As far as I know, if the currentScore is volatile then JMM must guarantee the happens-before relationship. If the second thread see the update of currentScore then the write to finalScore must happens before the write to currentScore and the second thread should return the correct value of finalScore.
Do I misunderstand something?

It used to be that volatile variable access only had a happens-before relationship with each other, but other non-volatile variable accesses could be re-ordered. Under the new JMM, volatile variable access is similar to synchronization, in that everything done before the write to a volatile variable is guaranteed to be visible to a thread that later does a read of that volatile variable. A volatile variable access can be thought of as a barrier across which instructions can not be reordered. So I think the author's statement is wrong under the new JMM.

Dbx: Can't evaluate local variables in optimized functions

I turned on the optimization for the whole product. Now I found that I can not print the local variables declared in side the main funciton or inside the function locals.
eg.

When I tried to print n or factorial, I would not able to do so...
Is there any way can I get the local variables printed?
Is there any compiler options to overcome this problem and printing the local variables...
I know this is an difficult question becuase the locals go to Register instead of memory. By reverting it back to memory, I may loose the efficiency I gained with this optimizations.

Dbx typically cannot show auto variables in optimized code. The reason is that the variables typically do not have a stable location, or might be eliminated altogether. Similarly, source code lines don't have a stable relationship to object code. The debug data emitted by Sun compilers is not enough to keep track of these issues.
We plan to provide better debugging of optimized code in a future release.
Dbx can show the value returned from a function, which in your case might be enough.

Can we include payload also in the alerts?

when can have the container objects such as sender service,reciever service ,Sender namespace,Receiver namespace,Sender interface,Receiver interface etc.
My doubt is that can we have the error message payload included in this alert,so that there would be no necessity to get into trace.kindly clarify.

Hi Madhulatha,
The other variables you have mentioned are the container variables which are expected to contain these values and which is finite. A payload can get as bigger as it can. May be thats the reason they did not have any container variable for that. Probably if you are using BPM for triggering alert, you can use java mapping to get the payload and use it as you want..

"if ( ff.getPinShareable().getTriesRemaining()== 0 ) return false; "when I select my applet this line throw an exception, ff.getPinshareable includes all of OwnerPin methods(such as getTriesRemaining ,check ,reset, update ,...)but all of them throw exception .
I think firewal does not allow other packages uses this methods .If my guess is right then what should I do for sharing the variables that they are defined with non primitive data type such as (OwnerPin,Signature,...)
I'd appriciated for any help.

I want to set a variable with default value and can be changed by the user

hi,
i want to set a variable with default value and can be changed by the user, so i new a variable with setting : customer exit, single value, optional, ready for input.
in my customer exit code, i set a default value, eg. 20070530
when the variable screen popup, it display the default value 20070530, i changed it to 20070529, but it doesn't work , it still display the data in 20070530, how can i solve this problem?

As mentioned by Anil, you need to restrict your customerr Exit code to I_STEP = 1.

<u>Open your Variable in change mode, in the Last Page os the Variable Maintenance you can provide default value. Note: you are doing same thing in Customer Exit. In your case no need of Customer Exit.</u>
