Can I increase speed of searches in mail?
It seems to take longer than ever to search through my mail on my new imac core duo. Is the amount of mail a factor? I use an imap account but always copy my mail into my imac. Is it a problem with mail and Rosetta? Anyone know?
imac core due Mac OS X (10.4.8)
OK. Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command, and press <Return> (you can copy the command here and paste it in Terminal):
sudo mdutil -E -i on /
The -E option tells Spotlight to delete any already existing index data (so that it’s rebuilt from scratch all over again). The -i on option ensures that indexing is enabled. Finally, the ‘/’ at the end means "apply this command to the startup disk".
After entering the previous command in Terminal, you’ll be prompted for your administrator password. Just type it blindly (you won’t see any feedback of the keystrokes while you type it) and then press <Return>.
For best results, quit Mail and don’t play too much with your disk while Spotlight does its job -- i.e. avoid files being created/modified/deleted, mail being downloaded, etc.

Macbook pro how can i increase speed
I have a 2011 macbook pro and it is running really slow. What can I do to speed increase the speed?
You may have to check into the causes of slow computers and narrow
the focus down to how to determine what they are, and initiate a cure.
•Tech Guides - {malware, adware, & performance} - The Safe Mac:
http://www.thesafemac.com/tech-guides/
There are certain symptoms that may indicate a presence of adware or
some other condition, to include too full a hard disk drive; when there is
inadequate free working space for temporary swap files or virtual memory
in the hard disk drive, that can slow the computer. In absence of adequate
RAM (memory, in-chip) the computer also can work slower than ideal.
So a too-full hard disk drive (or SSD, if so equipped) along with insufficient
chip RAM installed, can equal a slower computer than expected. Also, if
you have incompatible software installed, antivirus application or other that
runs in the background and uses processor cycles (makes busy-work) it may
be the cause of overall slower performance. Or no performance at all. A dog.
You could look into system logs, crash files, reports and other items as the
computer records most of these in the Console Utility, and some of them
are quite helpful when they actually spell-out a specific cause. Most of the
time, for many users, the Console and command-line are rather foreign.
Usually if there is an upgrade avenue open to you as the user and primary
account on the computer, you should learn about the device and what is
available (if anything) to change situation and improve the performance.
Troubleshooting issues to find if the problem is based in hardware, or in
software, can be time-consuming. Then, there are diagnostic tests and
professional authorized trained methods that could help resolve big kinds
of trouble. Or if you choose to have an expert upgrade the hard drive, etc.
General housekeeping, to remove old user-created content, make backups
of items you may not need or use but do not want to Trash just yet, off of
the computer and into an externally enclosed hard disk drive. Also set up
a system whereby you have automatic backups in addition to Time Machine
backups, so you could restore your computer from these backups if it should
fail. If the computer is getting on in years or in hours of use, it may be time to
consider a new replacement hard disk drive, of larger capacity & perhaps one
of faster rotational speed. If it currently has a 5400-RPM HDD, get a 7200
with a larger cache or buffer. Hardware upgrades can help if you mistakenly
did a system upgrade, as the effects can be slower than expected afterward.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing! -
Can I do an advanced search in mail?
I'm having trouble searching for conversations in my inbox.
This is because most of the names that I am searching also appear in my CV. This means that everytime I search their name, the results also show every time that I have sent my CV to someone. And annoyingly, they seem to miss out the actual conversation I am looking for.
Does anyone know a way that I can search my emails without including words from inside attachments?
Thanks so much for any help.
Lydiahttps://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/99836/ does this
The bug filed for having this built-in to Firefox is:

The width of the 'mail composer' box is too narrow so that with my email program half the buttons are missing.
== All the timeThanks for your swift response.
I understand the difference between the web browser and email program.
I have just started using Firefox from IE and IE displayed the new mail page full width.
Firefox displays the reading web page full width but not the compose mail page because of the layout with the attachment box to the right of the box where you write your mail.
I was hoping that there was a way to customise and change the layout.
Is that possible?

How can I increase speed?
MacBook S-L-O-W. Lots of spinning balls, slow loading pages. Help please
Yes. Preview becomes the default app for PDFs so there is nothing to reset. To put your mind at ease the first time you do this, do a Control-click (right click) on the file and you will see Preview listed as Default. Another way if you are unsure is to highlight the file and Control-click selecting "Get Info". In the panel which springs open to the left of your Desktop, look at the middle area where it reads: Open with: Preview; underneath it reads: "Use this application to open all documents like this one."
One more thing to ascertain about your speed issue. Do you "Empty Trash" or "Secure Empty Trash"? If you do the former then you have a build up of Trash files stored in a hidden file called ".Trashes" [read "dot Trashes"]. This space is designated for the computer to use whenever it will be needed but the files are still there accumulating and occupying space, thus slowing down the whole works. The better option is "Secure Empty Trash"; it will take longer for the operation to complete because now the computer will zero-out the trashed data so that it no longer is on the HDD, recoverable, perhaps, by high-end utilities like TechTool Pro (but that is not a guarantee). Now the space really and truly will be vacant not just designated for overwrite. If you do use Secure Empty Trash it is still not a bad idea to use Disk Utility to "Erase the Free Space" just to get a leg up on the lugubrious performance. -

How can I increase the file size limit for outgoing mail. I need to send a file that is 50MB?
You can't change it, and I suspect few email providers would allow a file that big. Consider uploading it to a service like Dropbox, then email the link allowing the recipient to download it.

How can I increase the number of mail recipients beyond 100?
How can I increase the number of mail recipients beyond 100?
If you're just sending a one-off email, send it in several batches (around 30 recipients each is usually safe). If you do this a lot, for business reasons, you need to look at specialized email blast services such as MailChimp or Constant Contact.

is there anything else i can do to upgrade my system to increase speed i do a lot of 3D work and i am pusing my system to 100% 24 hours a day.
i need more speedSell the 5 privately and use the funds received toward the purchase of a 5s.
Apple does not do trade-ins like car dealers if that is what you are asking.
In some locations, Apple will give you a small amount for recycling your
current iPhone but you will always get more $ by selling it privately.
Some wireless providers offer periodic reduced price upgrades - check yours
to see if they have such a plan. -

After installing MountainLion I can't search for mails in Mail
Hi all, after installing Mountain Lion this february I can't search for mails in mail before 2014! But the mails are all there, I can scroll down till 2011 ;-) Its only the search who killed himselfe after upgrading from Snow Leopard.
When I search for a word via Spotlight, it finds all old emails!
Whats wrong with my Mail.app?
ThxAfter reading A LOT of postings about this topic, I found my personal solution Because this problem started after upgrading to a new OSX, I mentioned that it must be something with rights permission. So I went on
User/Library/Mail right click -> Informations. Look down where you can see which groups has access, read/write. I went on the small wheel to change, set in my password, went on my user name, changed from "read&write" to "just read", switched back, marked "to all subfolders", then OSX asking if I really wanna do this -> yes. Waiting. Finished.
Now I see all my mails when I search inside the Mail.app.
Schnell und einfach ;-) Besten Dank
