Can I increase the amount of memory allocation to my terminal or any other application to make it run faster ?

Hi,
I have a file that must be run using Terminal only. Its a pretty large file and i do remember that in WIndows we had an option where we could maximum run-time memory to speed up the process of a particular task. Is there any, such chance in Mac ?

In Windows, when i go to Task Manager > Processes > I can right click on any of them, and i can increase the Memory that is allocated from Normal > Above Normal > High > Very High > Real Time. So i am trying to work and do the same on Mac too. Because there is an application (Terminal), which i want to be executed at a higher rate.
Yes i did try Renice as you mentioned. But there was "no immediate significant change". Then i also used a GUI version for renice, called "Process Wizard". Which also did the same.

No the allocations is automatic. It actually accesses more as needed.
This is what is listed in the spec as used if you only have 512mb ram. As it says it uses more than you stated as the minimum even with the limited RAM.
1. Memory available to Mac OS X may vary depending on graphics needs. Minimum graphics memory usage is 80MB, resulting in 432MB of system memory available.

Try this:
1. Dial *#61# and click Send. You will see your VM access number and the current ring delay time.
2. Write down the phone number displayed (including +1).
3. Dial **61*+1xxxyyyzzzz*11*30# and hit Send. +1xxxyyyzzzz is the number you wrote down previously, 30 is the delay in seconds. The delay can be set in 5 second increments, 30 is maximum.
4. Dial *#61# to verify that the new settings are active.

I'm trying to add pictures to my ripped movies in my library but it keeps telling me it can't save the library because there's not enough memory. There is plenty on my hard drive, is there a setting that lets you increase the amount of memory?

I get a window popping up that says "The library iTunes file cannot be saved. There is not enough memory available.". I have 980GB free, I don't understand how to change a setting or what ever is causing it.

And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)

The Shared Vedio Memory is controlled by the graphic card driver. The intel Graphics use Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) for dynamically allocating system memory for use as graphics memory to balance graphics and system performance. The Graphics memory is allocated based on system requirements and application demands (up to the configured maximum amount). When memory is no longer needed by an application, the dynamically allocated portion of memory is returned to the operating system for other uses.
Checking your system specs, I see that it can run aero without any issues... I would suggest installing graphics driver from here and check...

Yes i can, but this fm is calling from some another applications (front end) and that is a big scenario. and that will be really vary time consuming so i want to do in this way.
If this is not possible then the last way i have to opt is to do excercise again .

With OS X, it automatically allocates RAM and it can't be allocated manually.
What model Mac do you have and what OS X version is it running. Your profile shows a PowerMac and OS 10.6.8. A PowerMac can't run OS 10.6.8. It's max OS is 10.5.x
How much RAM is installed in your Mac? You need to max out the RAM and close other open apps if you are having problems with Illustrator.

The amount of memory used for data is a lot larger than the saved file size why is this and can I get the memory usage down without splitting up the file?

I end up having to take a lot of high sample rate data for relativily long periods of time. When I save the data it is usually over 100 MB. When I load the data for post-processing though the amount of memory used is excessively higher than the file size. This causes my computer to crash because 1.5 GB is not enough. Is there a way to stop this from happening withoput splitting up the file into smaller files.

LabVIEW can efficiently handle large files, far beyond 100Mb, provided that care is taken in the coding of the loading/processing routines. Here are several suggestions:
1) Check out the resources National Instruments has put together (NI Developer Zone > Development Library > Measurement and Automation Software > LabVIEW > Development System > Optimizing Applications > Managing Memory), specifically the article entitled "Managing Large Data Sets in LabVIEW".
2) Load and process the data in chunks if possible.
3) Avoid sending the data to front panel indicators, using local/global variables for data storage, or changing data types unless absolutely necessary.
4) If using LabVIEW 7.1, use the "show buffer" tool to determine when LabVIEW is creating extra
copies of data in memory.

On current situation, I’m also guess that this issue (above error message) may be caused by different language
versions (GERMAN Windows Sserver 2012 R2 Essentials and
ENGLISH SQL Server Management Studio).

Increase the amount of times you can "Step backward" alt+cntrl+z?

I find myself saving numerous iterations of my files, because the defualt settings only let step backwards a few times. Is there a way to greatly increase the amount of times you can step backward? I though perhaps the history window would let me double back on many of my actions, but even that did not go far back enough.

I'm not fully sure I follow you in this logic yet... I apologize if I'm being dense.
Saving your work occasionally is always a good idea, REGARDLESS of the number of history states. Even if you keep only 10 history states you'll lose just as much work if you haven't saved anything since the last several hundred steps and elephant droppings unexpectedly shut down your PC.
The important thing I'd like to note is that my choice of the number of history states, from what I have observed, does not seem to change the stability of Photoshop in any way.
If you find choosing a larger number of states does destabilize Photoshop on your system, perhaps you have RAM problems? Or maybe configuration issues? What do you have your RAM usage limit set to?
Your example about brush strokes is actually a good one to make my point that a deeper history can be a Good Thing. For example, if I touch up 75 spots (hot pixels in an astroimage, for example) with separate applications of the Spot Healing Brush, then I want to compare before and after images but I forgot to make a layer copy way back when, I can copy the image, go back 75 steps in the History, and paste the result over the original from an old history state to blink a before/after comparison.
The thing that's not been mentioned here is Efficiency. I have purposely populated my workstation with a lot of high reliability RAM (16 GB ECC). You might find Photoshop's efficiency going down if your system doesn't have enough RAM to be able to easily manage a deep history... Efficiency matters too, and hammering the scratch disk with a lot of I/O can not only slow things down for you but can also sometimes expose latent instability in a system.

I have iCal on my ipad and my phone, and when I look at the daily view or weekly view, only 1 1/2 lines are shown. If I have a few events that are all day (I keep several calendars) then I have to scroll through them one at a time. And with my fingers, sometimes they go by too fast. With Mac OS X, there is no way for you to alter the amount of real memory a program is allocated. This is all done dynamically by the OS. OS X's virtual memory management is far better than 'ole OS 9's.
What are saying about a memory leak? I take it that Safari is continually using more and more memory. How much memory is it usually taking up after a few hours? Perhaps you should just quit and restart Safari every few hours before it begins failing to respond.

depends on what data occupies your Other category on your iPhone and whether you could/want to delete it or not.
Check your Camera Roll for lots of photos or shot videos, you can get rid of some which you consider wortty deleting. Regarding data allocated to each of your apps - this can vary and you can check that as described by John above. You can uninstall the apps on your iPhone you consider worth removing - this will remove their app data too.
