Can I install a version of snow leopard server on a newer Mac Mini model?

Hi-
I have Snow Leopard server running on a Mac Mini from 2010. I decided I really need some redundancy so want to get another and sync them in case of failure. Can I buy the latest Mac Mini model and install Snow Leopard server on it or will it not let me due to some firmware limitation? I've been able to do revert on other models and not others. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

****-So I have to find the latest Mac Mini that will run Snow Leopard Server? I refuse to upgrade to that crap they call server nowadays. It's Snow Leopard server till I move to Linux. Thing is, those Minis cost nearly as much now as they did when brand new. I feel like I'm getting ripped off. Oh well. Thanks for the quick answer guys!

Hi guys, I purchased a Lion Server and I am wondering if its possible to install Snow Leopard server on it.
I have the Snow Leopard Server install discs and everything , just wondering if there is any thing I should take note of, I personally prefer SLS over Lion.
    What do you guys think?

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • Many online sites say no longer support .... using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on mac mini. What do I do?

Many online sites for insurance, banking, etc. say they no longer support my system.  I use Snow Leopard that came with my Mac Mini and it's update if I go to the "software update" which is 10.6.8.  What do I do?

Your Mac Mini is capable of being upgraded to Yosemite (free in the Mac App Store). The specified minimum of RAM is 2GB but you are likely to find it runs very slowly on that, with a lot of beachballing. I don't know what the maximum RAM is but you should consider installing extra if you can. Even so you may well find it's rather slow - Yosemite is really optimized for modern Macs running SSDs.
Snow Leopard isn't getting any more security updates by the look of things, so there's a lot to be said for upgrading it. However if you install the latest FireFox (36.0.4) that will run on Snow Leopard and should at least solve the inaccessible sites problem.
If you do decide to go for Yosemite you should make comprehensive backups: I would advise if possible cloning the entire Mac to an external hard disk, so that if you find you don't like Yosemite you can clone back and be no worse off. Otherwise downgrading is frankly a pain to do.

  • Snow Leopard Server on brand new Mini; Gray screen

I installed Snow Leopard Server on a new Mini. The install went fine. Shut the mini down. Started it up about 24 hours later, and I get to the gray screen and that's it.
I exchanged the mini for a new one. Installed Snow Leopard Server on the new one. Install went fine. Ran updates. Restarted the mini several times with no problem. Shut it down, waited 24 hours, and now it's the gray screen again.
    Now what?

  • Can I move adobe cs4 from my windows machine to my new mac mini?

can I move adobe cs4 from my windows machine to my new mac mini?

Short answer is now.  Any app that was developed on
for Windows will not run on OSX and visa versa.
However, You can create a Windows environment on
a Mac by 2 methods.  The first, create a dual boot
machine using Bootcamp and install Windows on a
seperate partion and then select which operating system
to boot into.  The second is using virtual machine products
such as VMware  Fusion  or Parallels Desktop Mac.  You
basically create a virtual Windows environment that
runs along side and concurrent with OSX.
Not sure how well this second approach will work with
any CS4 app, as they tend to be quite resource intensive.

  • How can i sync my iTunes library from my iPhone with my new mac mini

Recently my hard drive failed on my mac mini.  I had burned a bunch of CDs on the old mac mini and then sync'd it with my iphone.  Now the CDs are on my iphone but not on the new mac mini.  How can I sync my itunes library from my iphone to my new mac mini?

The iphone is not a backup device.
You need to copy everything from the backup copy of your computer computer to your new one.

  • Mobile account users can not log on to the snow leopard server machine?

    Hi all,
    I've setup a network user and designated it as a mobile account. ** OS X 10.6.2 **
When the user logs out of the snow leopard server machine, home sync tries to sync the local and network home directories. It is never able to connect. The network home directory is automounted and is not the default path /Users. I can see the two home directories on disk.
Anyone else able to have their mobile users log in to the snow leopard server machine without issues?
    OS X 10.6.2 **

It was the Sync server was down and did not know it

  • Can I use have booth Snow Leopard and Tiger on my mac mini?

I have a newer Mac Mini with OS 10.6.5, and I have a Quark Xpress program that won't work on this newer version. Is there a way to install the older Tiger 10.4.11 and toggle back and forth between the two OS's so I can use my Quark program? I really don't want to spring for the expensive update.

    Hi
I'm not tired but fair comment all the same. Posting links to other threads is common on these boards as you already know. Only you would know why you think it's off-putting? I personally don't have a problem with it. My response was to the other poster. The link I posted was to give the OP as much information as possible (is that not being helpful?) rather than the simple Yes or No. I made no mention of using search terms or anything else. Forums ToUs already deal with it which OP should have read.

  • Why can't Firefox set permissions for Snow Leopard Server Web-Site Wikis

I've established a web-site for collaboration of planning for a state-wide NGO and a local citizens-government oversight commission.
I'm using Snow Leopard Server v10.6.4, to drive the web-site, which includes the use of wikis.
In creating a wiki and setting permissions, I find that I cannot set permissions for users or groups to 'read only' from the default 'read & write' while using Firefox. However, I CAN set them to 'read only' using Safari. And, once the permission has been modified in Safari, THEN it can be modified in Firefox.

    Solution found at http://michaeljin.wordpress.com/2010/01/05/locked-out-of-mac-os-x-server/
It’s blog update time! Updates have been a little scarce lately, been super busy with getting trophies on PS3
Anyway, recently encountered the following with a Mac mini server running Snow Leopard Server:
Despite being able to ARD / Screenshare the Mac mini, I was unable to get any further than the login window. Authentication credentials are obviously valid. No weird access permissions have been set. However, the weird thing was, I can connect to the server via Server Admin tools (from another Mac) and all other services were running without a hitch.
After much head scratching it turns out to be a sACL (Service Access Control List) issue.
    This thread solved the mystery!

To save you the trouble, I’ll lay it out here. I cannot take credit for this, but Randall can!
Open Server Admin on a computer (any), and connect with the local admin to the machine.
    Select the server and authenticate.
Select Settings, then go to Access. You’ll want to make sure that Login Window and SSH have the local admin account listed if you select the option to “Allow only these users”. For now, I would suggest making sure all services have “Allow all users and groups” selected.
If (as in my case) it was set to Allow All in the first place, simply toggle the settings – back and forth.
    Save.
Try logging in again… should be a good one!

  • Can I image Lion clients from Snow Leopard server using SIU?

I have a new iMac Lion client I need to image to a number of machines, using Snow Leopard Server, but System Image Utility will not recognize the Lion client as a valid source volume?  Has anyone else experienced this yet?

Images must always be created on the same OS.
You'll need to download the Lion Server Admin Tools onto one of the clients and make it your "imaging system".

  • Start Snow Leopard from USB on a mac mini early 2009

    Hi.
It is possible to start Snow Leopard from a USB drive (Pendrive, USB disk, etc)??????
The DVD drive of my mac mini doesn't work properly and I have some problems with my HDD.
    Thanks in advance.
    BR

Get at least a 16GB USB thumb drive and use this tecnique to make a bootable USB drive:
    Borrowed from Kappy,
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. After formatting is complete quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard being sure to select the external drive as the target.
Note that you will need a Snow Leopard DVD. The above will only work for you if you can boot your computer from a Snow Leopard DVD. If you have a new model that came with Lion pre-installed then the above will not work because a Snow Leopard retail DVD cannot boot your model.

  • How do I move prior years' Turbo Tax data from Snow Leopard computer to my new Mavericks mini?

I bought a new mini, but don't know how to transfer my old Turbo Tax returns/history/files over from
my iMac (Snow Leopard) to the mini (Mavericks). I ended up doing my 2013 taxes on my old computer
because I needed to have 2012 data imported for 2013 returns, but I would like to get all of
my Turbo Tax history on the mini. HELP (please!)  Thank you!

This reminds me of an anecdote that I used to tell people to describe certain aspects of computer media and is somewhat relevant here.  The story is oobviously 20 years old, and the facts have been changed to make my point:
My wife recently came back from Italy with a VHS cassette of an Italian movie that she wanted to watch on our VHS player at home.
I sent the cassette out to a local video conversion store, so that they could convert the VHS tape from PAL to NTSC.
When my wife played the newly converted tape on our home VHS player, she exclaimed: "But it is still in Italian!"
I have no experience with Turbo Tax.  But I suspect that in prior years (especially prior to 2007) it was coded in PowerPC code.
In 2007, Apple converted its entire line of computers to the Intel CPU (from the PowerPC CPU), but in order to allow its existing user base to continue to use its PowerPC software, they included a transparent emulation layer in Mac OS X Tiger (Intel), Leopard, and optionally in Snow Leopard, called Rosetta.
Rosetta allowed users to continue to use their library of PowerPC apps without much problem.
Due to the expiration of its third party license, Rosetta is no longer included in Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks.
Moral of the Story: If the earlier versions of Turbo Tax are not Intel compliant, they will not run on your new Mac Mini, unless you install Snow Leopard Server ($20 from the Apple Store, by telephone orders only; part number: MC588Z/A) installed into Parallels ($79 retail).
If the latest version of Turbo Tax will open older Turbo Tax data files, this may not be a problem for you.
That is how I am able to continue to access my older Quicken Deluxe 2002 data files when necessary.

I've a new Mac Mini and I'd like to run it on Snow Leopard. Is it possible to install 10.6.8 on Mac Mini 2012?

Only if you install it in a virtual machine under Parallels or VMware, and then only with some hacking.
