Can I install an 8Gb Ram Module on a 2010 Imac?

Acording to apple support iMac (Mid 2010): Memory specifications - Apple Support, "You can use RAM module sizes of 2 GB or 4 GB in each slot", but clearly is more cost efficient to be able to install an 8Gb and a 4Gb, as the iMac already comes with two 2Gb modules, the iMac only takes 4 cards and it has a max RAM memory capacity of 16Gb.
Can I install a 8Gb?
Thank you!

How can I install another 4G Ram to my MBP (i.e. 8G Ram in total) and how much is it?

If your MBP is the 2012 model that you have listed, then you can go up to 16GB.
You can get the ram from OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_160 0MHz_SDRAM

i have the macbook pro 13" retina display. Can I upgrade my 8gb ram to 16gb? my processor is 2.5Ghz intel core i5

To save space on the computer, Apple has decided to solder the memory onto the logic board on the MacBook Pro with Retina display and the MacBook Air, and that's why you can't add more memory after buying the Mac. This only applies to these computers, not for the other ones

  • Can I install 8.5.1 modules on a LABVIEW 8.5 system

Can I install 8.5.1 modules especially ARM module on a LABVIEW 8.5 system ...
Since 8.5.1 is just a minor upgrade to 8.5 I guess it should do ..
But does it work effectively while importing code to  ARM processor

    Hi Bharath,
No, it's not a good ideal to install an 8.5.1 module on LabVIEW 8.5.  It may function, but chances are that it won't.  The versions should match exactly.
You will want to upgrade your LabVIEW to 8.5.1 before installed the LabVIEW Embedded Module for ARM Microcontrollers.  (Of course, you are welcome to try, but I suspect that you will get an installation error.)

  • 8540p dual core i7 620m 8gb ram module?

Can my Elitebook 8540p with i7 620m processor handle 2x8gb ram modules? Yes there are only the 2 slots as this is the dual core not the quad core. All literature I have read suggests it is only compatible with 4GB modules. But others have found the 8540w model spec sheet says the same thing but the specs we're written before 8gb modules we're available. And the 8gb modules worked in their systems. Is this the case with the 8540p as well? Also I have found that others have used 8gb modules in the dual core i5 models. I do realize I will need to upgrade from 32 bit Win7 to 64bit if the ram is compatible. Any insight is appreciated.

The motherboard chipset used on the first generation Intel Core processors such as the i7-620m (P55m) maxxes at 4 per slot, I thought. We started seeing 16 gig compatibility in 2 slots (8 per slot) with the 2d gen processors.  However, the Manual is cryptic: Four customer-accessible/upgradeable memory module slots supporting up to 16 GB of RAM in models that use quad-core processors Two customer-accessible/upgradeable memory module slots supporting up to 8 GB of RAM in models that use dual-core processors Supports dual-channel memory PC3-10600, 1333-MHz, DDR3 Supports the following configurations: ● 32768 (8192 × 4) ● 16684 (8192 × 2) manual Seems to be talking out of both sides of its mouth but I am pretty sure you cannot install 2 x 8 in there and have it work. If you prove me wrong (I hope you do) please report back for the good of the Forum.

  • How can i install 8 gb ram on a mac mini early 2009 when it says i dont need the EFI firmware 2.1?i can only install 4 gb but the side of OWC says i can install 8 gb? what to do?

i have a mac mini early 2009 and i want to install 8 gb ram but it doesn,t work.
it says on the OWC site that i have to install the EFI firmware 2.1 update but it won,t let me,it says(the mac mini)that i don,t need this update.
my kernel is 32bit but my EFI is 64 bit,how can i install 64 bit so i can use the 8GB cause with 32 bit i can,t use more than 4gb ram

    Check your computer's EFI Boot ROM version;
    1. From the Apple () menu, choose About This Mac
    2. Click More Info Under Contents
    3. Select Hardware
    If your Mac mini's Boot ROM version is the following or more recent, then you do not need the update to use 8 GB of RAM;
    Boot ROM Version: MM31.0081.B06

    Hi:
There are some errors on both the service manual and the product specs page.
As you saw the product specs page states that the maximum memory is 4 GB.
    That is incorrect.
Chapter 1, page 1 of the service manual, link below states the maximum memory is 8 GB.
However on page, 2, they only list memory configurations up to 2 x 2 GB.
    That is incomplete.
    You could also install a 4 GB + 2 GB chip for 6 GB and a 4 GB + 4 GB for 8 GB.
So, Crucial is correct and the service manual is correct--the service manual being incomplete.

  • Can i install 3gb of ram or does it need to be 4gb (Pairs)?

    Hi,
i've got an extra 1gb of ram on the way from apple (2x512mb) but i also have 2x512mb of third party ram, my question is can i also install the third party ram to give me 3gb or do i need another 1gb to make it 4gb (even pairs)?

You can indeed add the two third party memory modules to your Mac Pro. This will give you three pairs of 512 MB RAM modules, and is even listed in the Apple Mac Pro Memory DIMM DYI pdf as the 6 dimm configuration. Remember, though that 2 pairs of your memory will be able to operate in a wider bus configuration, providing better performance and bandwidth then the third pair of memory will sustain. You can of course in the future add another pair to create a 4 pair installation with better performance.

  • Satellite L40-14N won't start up if i install two 2GB RAM modules

Computer won't start up if i install two two gb ram modules, can i install vista 64 on this computer to overcome this problem, have upgraded bios.or is there something else i can do.it also wont work if i put a 2 and a 1 gb ram in.
    Any help would be apprecated
    mansy

No, Vista 64Bit won't solve your problem. The fact is, that this notebook model only supports a maximum of 2GB Ram in total. So, you can only use one of your 2GB memory module.
If you do so, notebook will boot up again.
