Can I Install IDVD6 over IDVD7

IDVD7 does not have the chapter functions I need. Can I re-install IDVD6. My ILIFE6 dvd will not let me do it. Is there a workaround. I need IDVD6 back. Help!

it's not iDVD'08 that doesn't have custom chapter markers but rather iMovie'08.
You can have both iMovie apps on the same system but I highly recommend having one or the other per startup volume. Hope this is clear but if not come on back.

and yes iMovie6 will work w/ iDVD'08 for setting custom chapters.
Suggestion: Do Not go back to iDVD6 once you have upgraded to iDVD'08. However you can download iMovie 6 (from apple per the above link assuming you already have purchased iLife'08).
Good luck.

  • Can I install Lion over Snow Leopard without erasing and restoring hard drive?

Been reading a lot about downloading Lion. Recommended to back up hard drive to ext. drive, erase hard drive, install Lion and then re-install apps and files from ext. drive. Can I just install Lion over Snow Leopard without erasing all apps and files on hard drive?

If you do an upgrade install then be sure to do this first:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Make a bootable backup just in case. Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • Can't install LRv1 over LR beta

    Hello.
I've just purchased LR (download) from Adobe site. I installed as directed by installer.
When I double-click LR icon (in Apps folder) after installation, the (old?) LR beta splashscreen appears momentarily - for perhaps less than a second - and disappears, exiting out of the application launch. It's as if the LR icon is still associated with the old beta install...
The LR installer didn't give me an option of uninstalling the beta version first. In short, I can't launch LR.
Any ideas? Help would be much appreciated.
    Hugh

    Thanks Robert, but...
the installer *didn't* provide an uninstall option. The ReadMe said to do "one of the following" which was simply to run the installer, which I did. (I seem to recall that the last time I had to manually go searching for files and delete them before carrying out an uninstall was back around System 7!...)
In any case, now confronted with this brick wall, I searched for everthing with "lightroom" in the file name and deleted all those files. Then ran the installer again. No luck.
(BTW, I never whimsically install stuff without doing what I'm directed to do. I use only software that I've purchased - 99% of which consists of mainstream apps, plus a few shareware apps. (Not meaning to sound holier than thou here, but just want to emphasise that I am one of those people who do read the small print...))
One final point, the LR beta splash screen did - as far as I recall - have an "I want to enter a serial number" option but I bought the full version *after* the beta expired. Now the splash screen doesn't remain onscreen for long enough for me to do anything. It appears for just a fraction of a second and - whoosh! - it's gone.
I guess, after all, it'll be that tech support line I'll have to opt for tomorrow morning.

  • Can you install Lion over the top of Mountain Lion to get rid of these awful Logic glitches?

    Folks -
I too have experienced the 'help! Logic is running away with itself and won't respond to me' scenario. I thought it was just me at first... I know there are several other folks that are having other problems ranging from annoyances to show-stoppers.
In my case, the biggest problem is that my Mackie Control (original; version 1.02)that has worked flawlessly in the past is plagued with the following symptoms:
Frequently is not detected or initialized when Logic starts up. This always worked prior to Mountain Lion.
If it IS detected, it will get a MIDI download from Logic so that all of the screen text and values come up, but none of the input functions (i.e. raising/lowering a fader on the control surface) are picked up/executed by Logic. I have tried different MIDI ports and cables and no change in the problem.
This control surface is pretty important for my workflow. I am seriously considering downgrading back to Lion, if it's possible.
Does anyone know if it is possible/safe to install Lion back on top of Mountain Lion? The glitches in Logic with Mountain Lion have made the system unstable and fairly unusable.
    Thanks!
    Pete

Turns out that the problem REALLY WAS MOUNTAIN LION!
I had a clone of my Mountain Lion disk in my Mac Pro. I do a full clone every night, so I booted from that, and erased my primary disk.
Then, I used Time Machine to go back to just before I installed Mountain Lion and then booted from the Lion DVD that I had made when Lion launched (see Google for this). I recovered to my erased disk, and 2.5 hours later I had a full 10.7.4 system up and running on my primary disk. This WORKS!!! I have just tried Logic, and the problems I was having disappeared. The Mackie Control surface is now responsive, and I'll bet Logic doesn't run away anymore either. Great tools - Carbon Copy Cloner (I'm a registed user) and Time Machine saved my butt.

  • Can I install Photoshop CS6 before uninstalling CS5 on a Win 7 PC or must I deactivate CS5 first?

Can I install CS6 over the top of CS5 or should CS5 be deactivated prior to installing the new version?

Both are different products and can co exist with each other. The choice is yours if you want to keep both or either. Also there are a few more specifics that determine the answer to your question.
Is Photoshop CS 5 a part of a suite or an individual product that you installed ?
Is Photoshop CS 5 an upgrade from a previous version or a full product ?

  • How to install Lion over Leopard if I already have the InstallESD.dmg file?

How can I install Lion over Leopard? I know everyone keeps saying you have to have Snow Leopard, but it seems that you only need it to actually download the file. I have the file and I've created a back-up disk and drive (using a 4gb card) and nothing worked. I don't understand why I can't install even if I have the file. The computer doesn't even recognize the disk when I press option at start up but it recoginizes it as Lion when fully logged in. I can't install using the .pkg file because it says it can't be installed on the running system. I have tried to use the drive and it gives me a EFI Boot when I press option at start up and so I click on it and It goes to the apple grey screen with the circle circling below it. But after a while, that apple turns into a No sign basically. So what else do I need to change or edit to install Lion over Leopard. The startup disk nor the drive are working.

The Lion installer is not a bootable device. You must run the installer like any other application. Since the installer will only upgrade Snow Leopard it may refuse to run. What you might try is putting a bootable Snow Leopard system onto a 16 GB USB flash drive, drag the Lion installer application into the Applications folder, boot the computer from the flash drive then run the Lion installer.
As for creating your own bootable flash drive you will need an 8 GB flash drive for that:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

    Generally YES.
It's possible to hold separate iTunes library's on a single machine.
Generate two new folders inside the Music folder of the Mini and name them differently; e.g. man and woman.
Copy your whole library into "man" and your wifes into "woman"
Go to sharing in the system settings of the Mini and share the Music folder in your network.
After copying the whole library's to the Mini you may point iTunes to the new location at startup by holding the option key (alt) at the keyboard.
iTunes will then ask you where the library is located.
Point it to the matching library on the Mini.
    That's all.
    Lupunus
PS ... If you both use only the Mini you have to setup a user account for each and just copy the whole library to the Music folder in particular.

  • Can i install windows 8.1 over xp in bootcamp

Can I install windows 8.1 over xp in bootcamp?

Is it on the system drive? on its own drive or is it large enough?
Windows 8.1 will run even without Apple's drivers just fine except for a couple items.
Boot Camp forum probably is best place.
Boot Camp is software (and a forum) as in drivers and Boot Camp Assistant.
You have to do a "custom" clean install, you can't upgrade from within XP, you should of course be using 64-bit and Pro for supporting two cpus.

  • Can I install Snow Leopard over Lion to install old software after hard drive crashed?

My hard drive crashed and I lost everything.  I have a new hard drive, but when the repair shop installed my operating system, they installed Lion and I no longer have my prior updates.  My computer had been updated a few times.  I have a lot of software that only can be installed up to 10.7 such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, Office Mac 2011, etc.  I was wondering if I installed Snow Leopard over Lion, would I lose Lion?  Should I install Snow Leopard and then Lion again?  I don't want to damage my like new computer and I don't want to have to go out and buy all new software.  Is there a solution?  Thanks in advance!

Sounds complicated!  If I repartition the drive and install Snow Leopard onto the blank volume, will Lion still be there?  Or, will the computer basically have two operating systems that I have to go back and forth from.  Is this something a novice like myself can do?

    Hi,
Did you mean user lock screen?
    If yes, try this:
Move your cursor to the upper right corner of your computer screen to reveal the
    Charms Menu.
In the Charms Menu, left-click or tap the Settings icon.
Note: You can also go directly to the Settings menu from any screen by using the key combination
    Windows + I.
At the bottom of the Settings menu, left-click or tap
Change PC settings to open your PC settings options in the Windows 8 User Interface.
Select Personalize on the left. Select the Lock Screen tab on the top right, and select
Browse to choose your lock screen.
