Can I install "just" windows XP on my mac mini?  no bootcamp. no parallels

Hi,
The question is can I (and how can I) install only the windows xp home or professional OS on a mac mini 1.5 core solo (i.e., turning it into a windows only machine). I want to be cIear that I don't want to duel-boot (i.e., boot camp) or use a VM (ie., parallels), but just a regular x86 computer that is running (sigh with me) Windows.
I imagine that if I do a clean and proper format of the mac mini, start it up and insert the Windows disk, everything will work.
Another question I have is, after 2 years, will I be able to put OS X back on? (Let's assume I have backed up all my files on an external drive.)
Mac mini

Hi Matthew!
Boot Camp will be the closest you'll come to your goal. A Mac is afterall intended to run Mac OS software first and foremost and Windows is only a secondary OS. But it is possible to boot into Windows after using Boot Camp to get it installed and then delete the Mac partition. You can always reinstall the Mac OS later.
Or you can still use Boot Camp to get Windows installed and just never boot back into Mac OS X (leaving it on its own partition). But why have Apple hardware just to do that? You'd be better off selling your Mac Mini and purchasing an Intel machine that will run Windows natively.
Hope this helps! bill

    Generally YES.
It's possible to hold separate iTunes library's on a single machine.
Generate two new folders inside the Music folder of the Mini and name them differently; e.g. man and woman.
Copy your whole library into "man" and your wifes into "woman"
Go to sharing in the system settings of the Mini and share the Music folder in your network.
After copying the whole library's to the Mini you may point iTunes to the new location at startup by holding the option key (alt) at the keyboard.
iTunes will then ask you where the library is located.
Point it to the matching library on the Mini.
    That's all.
    Lupunus
PS ... If you both use only the Mini you have to setup a user account for each and just copy the whole library to the Music folder in particular.

  • How can i install 8 gb ram on a mac mini early 2009 when it says i dont need the EFI firmware 2.1?i can only install 4 gb but the side of OWC says i can install 8 gb? what to do?

i have a mac mini early 2009 and i want to install 8 gb ram but it doesn,t work.
it says on the OWC site that i have to install the EFI firmware 2.1 update but it won,t let me,it says(the mac mini)that i don,t need this update.
my kernel is 32bit but my EFI is 64 bit,how can i install 64 bit so i can use the 8GB cause with 32 bit i can,t use more than 4gb ram

    Check your computer's EFI Boot ROM version;
    1. From the Apple () menu, choose About This Mac
    2. Click More Info Under Contents
    3. Select Hardware
    If your Mac mini's Boot ROM version is the following or more recent, then you do not need the update to use 8 GB of RAM;
    Boot ROM Version: MM31.0081.B06

    how about Leopard 10.5?
10.5.8 is fine. Obtaining it may be more difficult.
You'll need a Leopard retail install disk.
    This info is provided by TexasMacMan, with updates from me;
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24950
Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). {Note - this is now very unlikely, but no harm in asking}.
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on Amazon MP, eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
    MB021Z/A , MC094Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)
    MB022Z/A , MC095Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)

  • Can I install a Windows 8.1 backup system image in Bootcamp?

I was curious to try Bootcamp. I have Windows 8.1 running in a Parallels Desktop 9 VM and created a backup system image on an NTSF formatted external drive. Would it be possible to use that drive with with Bootcamp?
You may ask why I would want to do this when Parallels is working just fine. The specific reason is that I want to do a firmware update on a USB 3 hub I bought, but the firmware update requires a PC with a USB 3 port or a USB 3 port on a Mac running Bootcamp. The driver apparently will not run from Parallels.
    Thanks,
    Doug

I was in the same boat, Leatherhide. I disagree with what others are saying as you and I both navigated to the Windows Store and purchased full versions of Windows 8.1. We are not trying to do anything illegal here, we simply want to install the product we paid for!
Bootcamp assistant won't recognize the link that we download from Microsoft, since it is only executable on a PC, hence our dillema. Again, we are people who bought this software directly from Microsoft, and Microsoft won't give us the ISO!
Anyway, sign up for this trial program and you will get the ISO download. After you install it via Bootcamp you can register your own unique product key to activate it.
What I did, was install the trial version just so I could use my legit Microsoft download to create the ISO for my personal copy of Windows, then wiped everything an installed from my own ISO.
I hope this helps as I had to comb the internet for hours to figure this out.

Can we install JDeveloper (Window NT/2000) on Windows 98?
If not, is there a version available for Windows 98?
    Thanks

Yes, you can. Just insert the linux CD in the CD-ROM drive and when asked about the internal hard disk, be careful not to touch it. Also you should use GRUB or LILO to make the system dual bootable. You can go to http://www.tldp.org and look for the corresponding document.

  • Can I install additional Windows Partition?

    Hi,
I currently have a Mac Pro OS X 10.5.8 with a 500 GB HD (primary) with Boot Camp 2.1 with a 220 GB Windows Vista (32 bit) partition running on my system. Works great.
I just purchased an Western Digital Black Caviar 1 TB internal drive and I own an unused copy of Windows XP SP2.
Can I partition my new drive (secondary) with Bootcamp Assistant and create a Windows XP partition that I can boot up into as well as my Vista partition?
    Please Help!
    Thank you,
    Leapstepman

So are you technically saying that Boot camp doesn't allow the user to add more than one Windows installation? I know it doesn't allow more than one install per a volume. But I was hoping to split my 1 TB drive into 500 GB partitions and allocate one partition to OS X and the other to the new Windows XP install.
I found below info but it wasn't 100% clear to me if it is saying only one Windows partition per each volume or one Windows partition period.
    ===========================
    From Boot Camp 2.0 FAQs:
I have more than one hard drive, can I install Microsoft Windows on any drive?
You can install only one Windows partition on any of your computer volumes. The Setup Assistant will allow you to partition drives, or to install Microsoft Windows on an entire drive if it does not contain Mac OS X.

  • How can I install new windows on NB200-10z without a CD drive?

    Hi,
I have a mini laptop "Toshiba nb200-10z" and it doesnt startup anymore.
I would like to do a recovery, but it also doesnt work.
I know there is a shortcut like press the 0 button when the laptop is starting up.
With this shortcut you can start the recovery to reset the software.
But when I press the 0 button it gives me an error.
So I think the recovery drive/partition is lost.
How can I install new windows on this minilaptop without a CD drive?

I have found a much easier way to install Windows 7 from a USB Flash drive. Unlike other methods where you have to write complicated commands, this method can be completed even by those who have very little computer background.
The whole process takes only two steps, run UNetbootin, load the Windows 7 ISO file, and finally restart your computer.
Before you begin, you will require the following:
    USB Flash Drive (4GB minimum)
    Windows 7 ISO Image file
    UNetbootin
Note: If UNetbootin doesnt work, try out the Microsofts official tool called Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool.
Now insert the USB drive, run UNetbootin, and select Disk Image as ISO. Browse your local drive for Windows 7 ISO that you downloaded and click Open. Now Select Type as USB and choose the drive. Once done, it will look like a bit similar to the screenshot shown below.
Click OK and it will begin extracting all installation files to the USB drive. The whole process will take some time (10-15 minutes), so have patience.
Once the installation is complete, reboot your computer. Now while your system is starting up press the appropriate button (usually F1, F2, F12, ESC, Backspace, or Escape) to bring up Bios Boot Menu.
Change the startup order to boot USB by default, usually you will have to press F6 to move the selected USB device on top. Once done, save changes and restart the system.

Msxml3.dll is a Microsoft XML parser dynamic link library. It is

    if it could please how?

    Welcome to the forums !
Officially, Oracle has not certified any database software for Windows 7 as of today.
That does not prevent folks from trying to install :-) see Oracle 11g on Windows 7 as an example.

I have license for photoshop CS5 extended for windows , I have switched to mac , can  I install the same license copy on mac ?

Unfortunately, no. the CS programs are platform specific. You have three options. Upgrade to CS6 and request a platform swap, in which case you will give up the Windows serial number. Second, you could buy a second serial number for Mac outright. Third, you can buy the subscription to Photoshop CC, which can be used on both Windows and Macintosh..
