Can i install Leopard onto a normal pc?

I have a copy of OSX Leopard 10.5.1 and i was wondering if would be bale to load it onto a normal pc? I have a pc i built myself, it has an intell core 2 duo e6600 graphics card, gigabyte motherboard, nvidia gforce 9800gtx graphics card.
Anyway i tried to boot form the dvd but it failed. When i booted into vista and jst opend the dvd it does not look like a normal boot dvd.
Any suggestions would be great.
N.B. Also if it is not possible at all i do not mind, just trying it ou for a bit of fun but please let me know if you have any info at all

+Just got off the phone with apple support, because I had the same problem. What the problem is here is that the installer looks at the System Profiler to gather this information to make sure that it meets the requirements. Since these upgrades are not yet supported it reads 0mhz processor speed, if it's under 867mhz, it won't install.+
That's is my problem to start with!
I have 2 internal 120GB HD's, the one set as a master runs Tiger and the one set as a slave
have 4 partitions of which 3 partitions are running OS9, Panther, Tiger
and one partition I left to install Leopard.
When I try to install Leopard a pop up window comes
telling me that I can't install it on this computer,
utilities of the Installation disc will read 0MHz.
Try booting from a "virgin" Tiger, just bare OS on the separate drive and partition,
same thing will happened.

Yes, processor upgrade is not from Apple, but Apple should be more helpful.

Can you? Yes, it is technically possible. The more pertinent questions are: Is it a good idea and Is it legal. The answer to the former is maybe not. The answer to the latter according to Apple is no. In short, if you want to dump Vista and XP or Ubuntu aren't acceptable, put the Dulls up for sale and buy a Mac.

I recently built myself a PC, i put the specs below, i'm running XP Pro considering Vista (its a hard decision without the negative reaction to Vista), and I've seen and used the new Leopard OS and was considering that as well. Can i install this onto my computer? I know nothing about the difference's between the operating systems or what components are required ect...

4gigs ram (XP convienently will only recognize 2.75 gigs of this purcahce, but its stated that 32bit will read up to 4 gigs)

Installing Leopard onto a laptop with a broken internal DVD drive?

I'm trying to install Leopard onto my PowerBook G4 (yes, long past the warranty but she's an old workhorse). The internal DVD "super" drive has been broken for a couple of years, so I've got a nice, fast, solid Sony external USB 2.0 DVD/CD player/burner.
Just now I inserted the install disk into the drive. The disk mounted. Install window popped up automatically. Clicked the button to restart and install... the Mac restarts alright, but there's no installation happening (and no error message to tell me what's happening).
I've been searching the documentation and this forum and so far I'm stumped. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Is it simply impossible to install Leopard from an external USB drive? If so, is there a non-disk method anyone can suggest?

Please post the specs on your g4, lets make sure its possible first, then someone here can help get you going.
And to add to that, I am thinking that it would have to be a firewire disk drive to boot (?? Anyone?)
I also have to agree with Jeff, If you have another mac with a working dvd drive, or know someone (use beer as payment ) with a mac that would be quick and easy. If you do it as jeff suggests, then both macs need to be the same, or if they are different, you can put the disk in the borrowed mac, shut it down and restart holding the T key, putting borrowed mac into target mode, then hook you mac and borrowed mac together with a firewire cable, start your mac holding the alt/option key which will bring you to the disk selection screen, pick the Leopard disk and it should start the installation.
Make sure when you get to the point in the installer where it asks you which disk you want to install to, make sure you select your mac (as the borrowed mac's hdd will show up also)
The above method basically turns the borrowed mac into an external firewire DVD drive. K

Can I install Leopard on an external drive to run my computer?

Since it seems my hard drive has totally bit the dust, can I install Leopard on the external drive I use for Time Machine, and run my desktop from that drive? Could I run it from an external drive totally dedicated to Leopard? I am buying a new desktop soon, but I need info off of this machine. Can I plug in my Time Machine drive to my laptop and be able to use it without losing data?

If you really plan to keep the laptop around after you get your desktop, I would recommend replacing its internal hard drive. While running your laptop off an external is possible, it should be considered a stopgap measure. i wouldn't do it on a permanent basis. For one, as you'll find out, it's quite a bit slower than when using the internal drive.

I am trying to install Leopard onto an older PB G4 whose internal drive is shot. I have an external Pioneer USB 2 drive attached, but when the Leopard Installer prompts me to restart, the installer doesn't kick in and the computer restarts into basic OSX. I've tried to choose the Installer DVD via System Preferences "Start-up Disk" pane, but it doesn't show up. The DVD drive does have its own AC power source.

I don't know if the disc drive is fast enough for leopard or something. It's taking forever to open the installer, and when I restarted into the installer it just booted back to my desktop. I have an external disc drive I want to try. Can you install leopard from and external disc drive?

****, I just tried it and when I restarted it didn't go into the installer. I think my disc drive in my old mac mini might be too slow. It takes forever to recognize the disc and just to double click on it and it up. And when I tried to install it the first time from the internal drive it just booted right into my desktop again.

Can't install Leopard on SR Macbook 2.2

I've got a late 2007 2.2 GHz MacBook that I can't get Leopard installed onto. I tried the retail disc but got the error "cannot be installed on this computer". I don't have the original discs so I went online and bought a set (10.5.2) from the latest MacBooks and they won't install either. I figured since the retail v. was released before the MacBook it wouldn't work, but the new set is from a later model. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Because the MacBook had one more release after your 2.2 with the Penryn processors. Every nonretail install disc is system specific. Release dates on all Intel Macs for system specific discs are here:

Yes, you have to call the original owner for the discs.
Retail install discs will only work on older Macs than the discs themselves.

Update 10.4.10 destroyed Macbook, can't install Leopard on reformatted HD

Hello,
I recently installed update 10.4.10 on my Macbook. After the update was installed, I was unable to drag any icon outside of it's existing window, firefox, adium, and thunderbird would no longer open, I was unable to run my music recording software and the computer became pretty much inoperable. So I figure now would be the best time to do a full and fresh install of Leopard.
I went out and bought a copy of Leopard and did an erase and install, to rid myself of any problems that may have been internally caused by update 10.4.10 and I get an error that says "Install Failed. The source media may be damaged. Try the install again." So I returned the disc to the nearest Apple store and tried the install with the new one. I got the exact same error, even after reformatting my HD. Every once and a while I'll get an install error that says there is a problem with /MacHD/Volumes/... (which is beyond me). I've ruled out the possibility of an HD problem or CD drive problem because I can still install my original version of Tiger. I've also tried just upgrading from Tiger to Leopard and I get the same error messages. Can some Please help me on this.
I bought a Mac so I wouldn't have these kinds of problems and now my business is suffering because my (new) Macbook can't run the (new) operating system. I feel that Leopard should beable to run on my new machine.
ps. I contacted apple support over the phone and they are sending me a new copy of leopard in the mail.

Not so fast. I'm an admin servicing about 3 dozen Intel iMacs (the white ones) and 2 out of the 6 I've gone to upgrade to Leopard (via archive install) have given me the same message.
I've also had an intel MacBook Pro (1 out of 12 we have) give me this message as well, but it snapped out of it. I've also noticed on several of the MacBook Pro upgrades to Leopard that the hard disc did not show up in the Select Drive install window. I found that if I let it sit there a while (anywhere from 2-15 minutes) eventually the hard drive suddenly appears and I can install.
The white intel iMac I'm dealing with now (regarding the Bad Media) message is a dead end. I've tried two different Leopard discs. Then I tried putting the Leopard disc in a powerbook, booting the iMac into FireWire mode and mounting it to the powerbook. Then running the Leopard install from the powerbook but choosing the intel imac hard drive. I did this to eliminate a bad CD/DVD drive in the imac. No dice.
Finally I opened the thing and replaced the hard drive. After trying to install Leopard into the iMac with a NEW hard drive I still got the message "Can't install ... bad media source ... " etc. message.
Right now I'm installing on another identical iMac and it is proceeding as normal. When done I'm going to use CopyCatX to dup the install.
Never had anything like this with new installs of Apple OS's.

I can't tell about the RAM issue, I'm assuming it would have the original RAM because of where it came from. I don't know if it is able to be opened anyhow. I have plenty of room left 42GB.

If so, how do I do it?

Boot with the install disk, holding down the D key (should say so on your disk) launches the Apple Hardware Test program. Run it at least twice, using the extended tests. That checks out the RAM. If your installed RAM passes, then download and run Rember. Once the RAM's been cleared, reboot with the install disk, holding down the C key, select your language, then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and repair the disk. If it passes, then you can erase and reformat the internal HD. Note that this wipes out the current data, so make a bootable backup/clone onto an external HD (preferably FireWire) and test it before continuing, then after erasing the HD, use the Erase & Install option to install Leopard and migrate from the backup/clone.
