Can I install Mac OS X 10.3(jaguar) on a Tangerine iMac G3 333mhz

I was wondering if the Jaguar Mac OS X 10.3 installation disks that I have for an eMac will work on an iMac G3 flavored edition 333mHz computer. Or is there a separate version for this particular iMac? I have it running 10.1 now, but need Safari for the internet. HELP!!! I am not a complete idiot when it comes to macs, but not sure about this as the installation CDs say it is for an eMac.
Thanks to everyone who answers!!!
iMac G3 333mHz   Mac OS X (10.1.x)   Clueless, well a little bit of a clue

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
10.3 =Panther, not Jaguar.
10.2 = Jaguar.

No. You can't install the gray disks from one Mac on another Mac of a different model or vintage.
The Tangerine iMac has some limitations:
1. Firmware must be upgraded while booted in 9 or 8, or your display will go permanently blank:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
2. If you erased 9 or 8, and you find you need a version of 9 or 8 installed, you will need to install the drivers before installing 9 or 8.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75275
which will probably require wiping your hard drive.
3. Hard drives over 8 GB need to be partitioned.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106235
4. Hard drives over 120 GB need to be partitioned as well:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86178
5. No Firewire means backing up is a pain, and very slow.
Jaguar that will work after the firmware has been updated looks like:
Panther which will work after the firmware has been upgraded looks like:
Considering the difficulty, and your noviceness, I'd say, stay where you are until you can afford a newer Mac.

Yes, assuming you have enough disk space, you can install 10.5 Leopard, 10.6 Snow Leopard, and 10.7 Lion.  If you want to upgrade to 10.7 Lion, I'd recommend a memory upgrade to at least 4GB.

can i install Mac OS on in Windows 7? for dual-boot purpose

But you can install Windows on a Mac via Bootcamp for dual boot.
For the purposes of Windows®, a Mac is just a generic piece of PC hardware, so installing on to it is permitted by Microsoft's EULA.  On the other hand, Apple have explicitly stated in the EULA for OS X "Mountain Lion" that it should only be installed and run on Apple-branded hardware.  Section 2, Paragraph B, Sub-section 1:
you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license […] to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer…
    (emphasis mine)
    Section 2, Paragraph H:
The grants set forth in this License do not permit you to, and you agree not to, install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-branded computer, or to enable others to do so.
Also, discussion of how to run OS X on non-Apple branded hardware is against these forums' Use Agreement, Section 2 Paragraph 8, including Sub-section 1:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.

  • Can I install Mac OS X 10.5 on a Powerbook G4 already running Mac OS X 10.6? I lost my disc of 10.6 and can only find my 10.5 disc as I'm selling my MacBook and wiping the hard drive for a complete reset.

A PowerBook G4 can't run Snow Leopard OS 10.6, however, it can run Leopard OS 10.5. But you must use a retail (black) Leopard install DVD.
What does the selling of your MacBook have to do with installing Leopard on your PowerBook?

  • Can I install Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 on a dell Optiplex Gx280?

Hi! I have a couple of questions which I can't seem to find the answers too.
    1) Can I install Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 on a Dell Optiplex GX280?
    2) Can I take the HDD from the aforementioned Dell and place it in my Power Mac G4 Digital Audio? If so, will Tiger still be on it?
    3) If I can't install Tiger on my Dell, can I rip the DVD drive out and use that to install?
    4) HDD's don't have to be Mac specific, do they?
Thank you for your valuable time,

  • Can't install mac os x on macbook pro anymore(now i have windows 7 on it)

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro, there was mac os x 10.6.4 on it, after that I installed windows 7 on it, because i wanted a clean instal, but I couldn't because a kernel panic when i booted from the dvd mac os x 10.5(that I received when i bought the macbook pro), I also have a 10.6 snow leopard dvd. So I installed windows 7.
Now I can't install mac os x because of the kernel panic, I also tried a lot of dvd that i borrowed from friends, and I also bought a new mac os x snow leopard dvd ...
the error is just: you need to restart your computer.....
I tried also some key combinations on startup like: Command-Option-P-R keys,Command-Option-O-F,startup from dvd: pressing C on startup, pressing D on startup, pressing option on startup.
I searched evrywhere but didnt found a solution
Nothing helped so can someone help me please?
Now i have just a windows 7, i realy want mac os x back, its a lot easier in the class...
PS: I am a noob, so dont explain it hard please

You are just throwing things that have no bearing and can cause trouble, there is no Open Firmware, Intel based Macs use EFI, OF was part of the older G4/G5 and PowerMacs.
Unplug everything but keyboard and boot from 10.6 DVD.
Boot from Windows 7 DVD if you want and instead of installing, format the entire hard drive as NTFS and then try OS X DVD.
But first and foremost.... where is your backups? do you have OS X on external drive? how about putting OS X on external hard drive?
And you're sure this is a kernel panic? a prohibitory sign maybe?

  • Can I install Mac OS 10.4.7 CD's meant for an imac intel chip (Jan 2007)??

Can I install Mac OS 10.4.7 CD's that came from an imac intel chip (Jan 2007) ONTO an ibook power pc G3? The ibook only has a CD drive and I believe the OS installs are CD's not DVD's as there are 2 of them. The ibook currently is running OS 10.3.9 with 23 GB on the HD at the moment. I may be able to free up some space though by dumping Microsoft Office. I know for sure I had 10.4.7 on there before but I got a used HD and there is only 10.3.9 on it. Sigh.

Nope, sorry wont work, those are Machine & Architecture specific Install Discs.
See Tom's, (Texas Mac Man), great info on where/how to find/get Tiger...

  • Can I install Mac OS X Lion on an external FireWire800 drive?

Can I install Mac OS X Lion on an external FireWire drive? I have bought a Lion Thumb Drive. I'd like to install Lion on the FW drive and then boot from there. The FW drive is a brand-new LaCie D2 Quadra 2 TB drive that has FW 800, 400, USB, and esATA connectivity.  Can't find any manual describing how to do this. Any help appreciated. The more detail, the better. Thanks.

Yes, you can. When you run the installer you will get to a screen where you will see the default target drive, usually "Macintosh HD." Under the icon you will see a link to display other drives. Click on that so you will see the external drive you have connected. Select that then continue the installation.
For simplicity connect the drive using FW800.

If you have an OS X Leopard install disk of any type,
That not fully correct ... to install OS X Leopard yuo will need full retail DVD or CD. These are the Black ones with a Big X on it.

Can I install Mac OS X version 10.5 on my PowerPC G5 Tan Tower, with a single 1.6 processor, 4 GB DDR SDRAM. I am running version 10.4.11 and want to update to 10.5
I also need to know where I can find the software to buy, they don't seem to have it in the apple store.

You really should check things out first before speaking.
    Here are the requirements for 10.5;
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard requires:
A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867 MHz or faster) processor
    512 MB memory or more
    A DVD drive for installation
9 GB of available disk space or more
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider, fees may apply.
Some features require Apple's MobileMe service; fees apply.
