Can I install Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6?

I have a Apple iBook G4 (mid 2005) running Mac OS X Tiger. Can I install Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 on this Mac or can you only install Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 on Macs that are already running Leopard?

Hi Leet ...
If you have an OS X Leopard install disk of any type,
That not fully correct ... to install OS X Leopard yuo will need full retail DVD or CD. These are the Black ones with a Big X on it.
Be care full by providing information that could corse issues or even damages on a Mac.
See you on the board ...

  • Can I install Mac OS X Leopard (not the server version) on a Xserve?

    Hi all.
Can I install Mac OS X Leopard (not the server version) on a Xserve and run BootCamp (to use Windows), and other Mac applications like FileMaker, Toast, iWork, e.g.?
    Thanks in advance.

Can I install Mac OS X Leopard (not the server version) on a Xserve
Yes, but some functions may not work as intended. See here for some information; all Mac OS X 10.5 installations are universal binary.
and run BootCamp (to use Windows)
Probably not. Use a program such as Parallels Desktop.
and other Mac applications like FileMaker, Toast, iWork, e.g.?
    Yes.

  • I can't erase, reboot, repartition or instal mac os x leopard on my hard dr

I can't erase, reboot, repartition or instal mac os x leopard on my hard drive.
I tried installing windows xp using bootcamp. I think I accidently installed it on the same partition as leopard. I didnt complete the installation of windows xp. but leopard got deleted.
I tried to reinstall leopard. I wont let me do it cause my hard drive is partition't as a windows nt file system (NTFS). I cant repartition it either using disk utility cause for some reason its read only.
    Can someone help me.

    Do this:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from theUtilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
Quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the Leopard installation. After you've installed Leopard you can use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition and install Windows.

  • Can i Install Mac OSX Leopard 10.5 /10.6 ?

    Hello guys,
I've bought about 3 weeks ago an iPhone 3G. Since i have my iPhone i like to produce software for the iPhone with the developers kit from apple. But i have one problem. I have an Acer Aspire notebook with:
    4GB memory
    Intel Processor (2,2 GHZ)
    Ati Videocard
    Windows Vista Premium
Can i Install Mac OSX on this notebook ? Maybe with dual boot.
    Best Regards,
    Theodoor de Wit

A slightly different perspective from what others have already posted:
Even assuming there were no licensing/legal problems with this & you could somehow successfully hack the OS & SDK to install & run on your Acer, would you really want to try to use that as a development platform for iPhone apps? It would be like trying to build a sturdy house on an uncertain foundation: you would never know if or when the whole thing might collapse or how to tell if the fault was in what you built or not.
If you want to develop for the iPhone, invest in a Mac. If you are any good at it, judging from the success stories you could quickly & easily make back the cost of that investment & much more. Even if you don't, you will have a very well made & supported computer running what is arguably the most stable & user-friendly OS on the planet.

  • Can I install Mac OS X 10.5 on a Powerbook G4 already running Mac OS X 10.6? I lost my disc of 10.6 and can only find my 10.5 disc as I'm selling my MacBook and wiping the hard drive for a complete reset.

Can I install Mac OS X 10.5 on a Powerbook G4 already running Mac OS X 10.6? I lost my disc of 10.6 and can only find my 10.5 disc as I'm selling my MacBook, and wiping the hard drive for a complete reset.

A PowerBook G4 can't run Snow Leopard OS 10.6, however, it can run Leopard OS 10.5. But you must use a retail (black) Leopard install DVD.
What does the selling of your MacBook have to do with installing Leopard on your PowerBook?

  • Can't install mac os x on macbook pro anymore(now i have windows 7 on it)

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro, there was mac os x 10.6.4 on it, after that I installed windows 7 on it, because i wanted a clean instal, but I couldn't because a kernel panic when i booted from the dvd mac os x 10.5(that I received when i bought the macbook pro), I also have a 10.6 snow leopard dvd. So I installed windows 7.
Now I can't install mac os x because of the kernel panic, I also tried a lot of dvd that i borrowed from friends, and I also bought a new mac os x snow leopard dvd ...
the error is just: you need to restart your computer.....
I tried also some key combinations on startup like: Command-Option-P-R keys,Command-Option-O-F,startup from dvd: pressing C on startup, pressing D on startup, pressing option on startup.
I searched evrywhere but didnt found a solution
Nothing helped so can someone help me please?
Now i have just a windows 7, i realy want mac os x back, its a lot easier in the class...
PS: I am a noob, so dont explain it hard please

You are just throwing things that have no bearing and can cause trouble, there is no Open Firmware, Intel based Macs use EFI, OF was part of the older G4/G5 and PowerMacs.
Unplug everything but keyboard and boot from 10.6 DVD.
Boot from Windows 7 DVD if you want and instead of installing, format the entire hard drive as NTFS and then try OS X DVD.
But first and foremost.... where is your backups? do you have OS X on external drive? how about putting OS X on external hard drive?
And you're sure this is a kernel panic? a prohibitory sign maybe?

  • Just installed mac osx snow leopard upgrade and connected my printer to it too, and realized I have no sound anymore

Just installed mac osx snow leopard upgade and connected my printer too, and realized I have lost sound!   Can anyone help?

In case I misunderstood, did you mean that the 10.6.3 version of Snow Leopard was the upgrade?  If so you need to update via 10.6.6 to 10.6.8.  These updates can correct minor system upsets.
And ... did you also repair permissions both before and after you upgraded.   You should do this when you progress via 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 too.

  • Can I install Mac OS X 10.5 on my ibook?

I have an iBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.4.11 and I just got an iphone and I need the newest version of itunes, but can't install it without 10.5 or higher. However, I can't install the new snow leopard software because apparently I don't have an intel processor I have a power pc...how can I install an update? Please help!

how can I install an update?
Purchase and install a retail version of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, not Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

  • Can I install Mac OS X version 10.5 on my Power PC G5 Tan Tower?

Can I install Mac OS X version 10.5 on my PowerPC G5 Tan Tower, with a single 1.6 processor, 4 GB DDR SDRAM. I am running version 10.4.11 and want to update to 10.5
I also need to know where I can find the software to buy, they don't seem to have it in the apple store.

You really should check things out first before speaking.
    Here are the requirements for 10.5;
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard requires:
A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867 MHz or faster) processor
    512 MB memory or more
    A DVD drive for installation
9 GB of available disk space or more
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider, fees may apply.
Some features require Apple's MobileMe service; fees apply.

Yes, assuming you have enough disk space, you can install 10.5 Leopard, 10.6 Snow Leopard, and 10.7 Lion.  If you want to upgrade to 10.7 Lion, I'd recommend a memory upgrade to at least 4GB.

  • Instaling Mac OS X Leopard

I have a desktop I wanted to install Mac OS X Leopard on but I cannot seem to boot from the DVD, can someone tell me where I am going wrong.
My other topic got deleted some how.
    Thanks

    Bigmoss,
Apple's User License Agreement specifically forbids installing Mac OS X on anything other than a Macintosh computer. Breaking a license agreement is a violation of the law. Read the Terms of Use on the right. They specifically forbid discussing installing on anything other than an Apple manufactured machine:
    http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macosx105.pdf
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. Single Use. This License allows you to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single *_Apple-labeled computer_* at a time. You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-labeled computer, or to enable others to do so. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.
The bold underlined above is my emphasis. Thus any discussion on this board regarding breaking that license agreement is subject to post deletion and or locking. If you are interested in installing Mac OS X, the technical specifications here:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/
    and here:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/
explain which Macs new or used you can install it on. I've listed used and refurbished Mac websites on my website here*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
    - * Links to my pages may give me compensation.
