Can I install ML on separate HD leaving 10.5.8 on other HD without problems.

I currently have a 2008 MAC Pro 3,1 with 6 GHz RAM and with an ATI Radeon HD 2600XT running Leopard on 2 internal HD's. I want to add a 3rd internal HD running only Mountain Lion with a bootcamp partition for Windows XP. I have the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 dvd for upgrading to ML. Apple Support said "Yes" I can do it, but I may need to do a hard reboot going from Leopard to ML or back because each uses hardware differently (no big deal to me).  My reason for not updating fully to ML is that everything is working just fine in Leopard, but I don't want my MAC Pro possibly becoming obsolete for upgrading to future OS's and I want to be able to use new features in the latest OS's. Has anyone had a bad experience with this scenario or foresee possible problems?

Don't blame Parallels for XP's weakness and flaws.
For most office type apps, whether Windows 7 or OS X, a VM is fine today if you have the cores, good drives, and extra RAM.
Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant - along with good use of CCC. CCC will clone not just the system - needed for bootable backups, but also now the Recovery partition.
I always recommend a clean install, a new hard drive (maybe Intel 330 128GB $89 @ Amazon) for the OS/Apps.
And use a data drive.
75% full is "full." It is maxed out.
XP is not supported with Lion and ML. And you need to use Boot Camp Assistant with those. And so you need to use your 10.5 DVD for drivers. It is old. not supported. out of date. Time for Windows 7 or later.
I would never put data anywhere but on its own non-system drives.
Lack of support as in it is small, old  and lacks OpenCL and the other features and 256MB VRAM I believe which really is small. I'd get something better. But not if you have to run 10.5.8 natively. then you should look around on the other Mac Pro forums out there.

  • How can I install and activate adobe software under creative cloud purchased from other country?

How can I install and activate adobe software under creative cloud purchased from other country?

    Hi John,
    I appreciate your prompt response.
We have an Australian client here in the Philippines and would want to purchase an adobe software under Creative Cloud Licensing.
Since this type of licensing is not yet available here in the Philippines, they are suggesting that they can purchase it in their country.
My main concern is, will there be any conflict upon installing/activating an adobe software under Creative Cloud which will be purchased from their country?
And what are the steps for installing and activating a software under this type of license.

No, if they bought it, then its theirs. You may wish to contract iTS for options in case it was part of the Mac Acceptance.

  • Can I install iTunes in separate user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit?

    Hi,
My wife and I use different user accounts on Windows Vista 64-bit. Before I go and mess things up on my computer, I wanted ask some questions:
    1) Has anyone has successfully installed iTunes to multiple user account?
    2) If so, has anyone successfully shared the same music root directory for 2 different iTune instances.
I'm thinking with iTunes very tight integration with the music files (for indexing/searching, etc), that it would be bad to have add/change/delete on the same music root from 2 independent installations.
    Experience OR opinions welcome!

) Has anyone has successfully installed iTunes to multiple user account?
You don't install the iTunes application more than once. Each user account in Windows will have its own iTunes library.
If so, has anyone successfully shared the same music root directory for 2 different iTune instances.
Many people have done so. This should help:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
Note that iTunes has no folder-watching capability, so if you add a track in one user account, the other user will have to add that new item manually, either by using the Add To Library command or dragging the item into the iTunes window. There are a couple of potential solutions from other developers, though:

  • I recently purchased an iMac with Maverick system. I want to know can I install my Photoshop CS5  on this computer then upgrade it to CS6 without a months charge in the cloud?

I recently purchased an iMac with Maverick system. I want to install my Photoshop CS5 on it, is that okay?
Then I want to update it to CS6 without the iCloud purchase monthly (don't want that, want a one time charge)???

As per System requirements | Photoshop, PS is not officially supported on Maverick and you might face several compatibility issues as well. However, we have many users who are still using CS5 on Mavericks. So, if you want you can give it a try and check it for your self.
As far as CS6 is concerned, you can get PS CS6 perpetual version easily from Adobe.com Creative Suite 6
    Hope that Helps!

  • Can you install Windows 8.1 Pro using Parallels on a new MacBook Pro without retina display?

I am starting a graduate school program and I would like to purchase a MacBook Pro. The options for the non-retina display fit my needs best, but it sounds like the resolution requirements for Windows 8.1 Pro do not match the MacBook Pro without retina. I need Windows to run a statistics program (SAS) and ArcGIS for mapping. Any thoughts or experience installing Windows 8.1 Pro on MBP without retina?

The native res on my 13-inch non-Retina is 1280x800. You might check with Parallels support or their forums to see if this is a problem.
If you go with the non-Retina 13-inch, I'd recommend getting 8GB RAM (standard is 4GB) because Win emulators need a fair bit of memory.

  • Can I use the iPhone 5S that I bought in Italy,  also in Korea without problems?

I bought iPhone 5S in Italy. Can I also use it in Korea without any problems?

Depends, is it unlocked? Unless you have an unlocked phone, you are only able to use it with your Italian carrier. If it is locked, you can contact the carrier to see if they can unlock it for you (Apple can't do it, it has to be the carrier). Once it is unlocked, you can take it to Korea with you and get a SIM from the Korean mobile phone provider you want to use and you should be able to use it.

  • HT5148 how many computers can I install final cut on?

Me and my business partner are looking to purchase Final Cut X for our company.  Can you purchase one copy and use one both computers?

And if so, does that mean that once I purchase Final Cut X, I can install it on any computer (up to 5)
There is no authorization. There is nothing that defines any number of machines. The licenss addresses who owns the machine and who's using it. If you own a laptop and a desktop and you use them both you can install the application on both machines. If you own two machines and someone else is using one of them you need to purchase two licenses. You can do this my using separate Apple IDs for each machine.

  • Installing OSX on separate HD

I have bought a new Mac Pro and would like to install OS10.5 on one of the other internal Hard Drives I have added. (Useful for testing upgrades and software before committing it to the main system) I have a 10.5.1 Family Pack Leopard DVD but understand that this will not boot the machine and so cannot be used for the install.
Can I use the install disc that came with the machine to install OSX on an existing partition of one of the other drives without re-formatting? I have data on them already.
    Thanks
    Dave

I would resize one of your partitions as this is for 'testing' and keep it separate.
Plus, I would clone your existing system to either that drive partition or to another disk.
Main system, test system, backup system (could be used for repairs though I favor having a small 20GB partition for running Disk Warrior and such).
Backups of a partition can also be to a Disk Utility "sparse disk image."

  • How many computers can I install iLife '09 onto?

    Hi Kok Choy,
thank you for your answer. I've installed the Microsoft-USB-Beta-Driver, and than I could install the ZEN without a problem. I'm very glad! Installing of ZEN Media Explorer, Sync Manager and so on has gone without problems. Now I'm searching for a manual in german language as a PDF-File. Unfortunally I found only Help-Files.

  • I Have office for mac home and business 2011, can you install on both users on one iMac?

I Have office for mac home and business 2011, can you install on both users on one iMac?

That's often a permissions problem. Try launching Disk Utility and running the Repair Permissions. That may fix the problem. Also confirm that the Office 2011 folder is in the Applications folder at the root of the hard drive, not a folder within your wife's Home folder.
If that doesn't help. post back with further details; your version of Mac OS X, whether you installed Office via a user account with admin privileges or not, and what happens when you try and launch Office from your account including error messages if any.
    Hope this helps.
