Intego has their own uninstaller which is the best thing to use. Otherwise, see the following. From a practical point of view you really don't need any such software on the Mac.
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.

Consider yourself lucky!
Norton Antivirus (made by Symantec) has a very long and illustrious reputation for mangling Mac OS X systems, sometimes to the point where a complete reinstall is necessary. Among other things, it installs kernel extensions which are known to cause kernel panics and system freezes; it contains known and documented bugs which can silently corrupt Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign files, destroy a user's ability to authenticate as an administrator, and (on PPC systems) can cause Classic to stop functioning; and Symantec has on at least two occasions now released flawed .dat file updates which erroneously report certain critical Mac OS X files as "viruses." (Deleting these "viruses" causes damage to the system that in some cases renders it unbootable.)

After installing Norton Antivirus to my PC, iTunes won't connect

A few months ago, after getting a nasty virus, I had Norton Antivirus installed on my PC. Since then, my iTunes won't connect to the store. This wasn't a huge deal until I got an iPhone, now it's a constant issue. Has anyone had a similar issue or know what in the world to turn off/on to make it work again?

What iPad117 is describing is recovery mode. this will need a restore in itunes to be able to use the device again, clearing all data. If you want to avoid this, try this first: Try a different usb port. A lot of ports are not compatable with some iPads. One in the back of the computer is usually best. Also try a different cable, and make sure itunes is up to date.

What DS and version can I install on my local WinXP box ?

I've been told any of the DSEE v6.x versions would be difficult to get installed and configured.
I was also told DS 5.2 as part of ES was the reccommended version.
I may have backup historical downloads, but for other readers, where to DL?
Anyone have thoughts, experience, tips, suggestions ?

My opinion (not official) is that 6.x is actually easier to install (don't have to answer a million questions) and almost never have to use the console.
Try downloading it from here. Since you're starting a new install I'd suggest going with 6.3.

My iMac is the newest one and i installed norton antivirus but the system was to slow so o uninstalled it but it is still too slow

Why won't Norton AntiVirus 10.0 install on my PowerBook G4?

I have a PowerBook G4 and have installed OSX 10.4.7 for PPC. I am now attempting to install Norton AntiVirus 10.0. The error message I get is: "...Software requires Mac OS X BSD Package." My PowerBook G4 does not have an Intel process (pre-Intel). I cannot figure out why it won't let me install the software. I don't even really know what a "BSD Package" is, or how to get it. However, I don't think I need it since it relates to Unix.
ANY ASSISTANCE?

(b) Were you running 10.4.6 and installed the 10.4.7 update?Which is it?
With Tiger, the BSD Subsystem is installed by default. In previous versions of Mac OS X, it could be omitted from the installation process by deselecting it in a Custom Install.
2. As a general checkup, I suggest you run the Procedure outlined in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified. I suggest this as directory corruption may make it appear that the BSD Subsystem is missing.
3. Does your Mac meet all the system requirements for installing NAV 10, in particular the RAM and free disk space requirements?
4. As FYI, I've been running NAV 10 for Tiger since it was released without problems. The "advice" you've received against this product is nonsense. See my "Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware" FAQ for my recommendations as well as a list of some recent Mac OS X security threats that have emerged, including Trojans, rootkits, and spyware. The FAQ also addresses some of the usual arguments against installing an anti-virus solution that often arise in discussions of this topic.
While some people believe that anti-virus solutions are not required on a Mac, I think they're ignoring the fact that threats are emerging and that security exposures continue to be found, albeit eventually closed, in Mac OS X, as in any other operating system. Even Apple now recommends that one should "check for viruses."

Why do my utilities apps quit without opening? Can't install CD

I'm not able to install Norton Antivirus for Mac. It seems to start up but immediately quits. I clicked on the .dmg file with control key down. The options offered me were the default installer or "other". "Other" leads me to the utilities folder in applications. Here is where my problem is.
I can't seem to open the applications in my utilities folder- Installer, Disk Utility, Keychain Access, System Profiler, Printer Setup- when I click on any of these, the same thing happens as when I click on the Norton Antivirus installer- it immediately quits. It appears for a moment in the dock, then just quits. I booted from the Tiger Install CD to repair Permissions and run Disk Utility from there. It says all OK. Still, the problem persists.
I clicked on "Get Info" for Disk Utility and the other apps in question, and I made sure I have read & write permissions. I unlocked Owner as well. Nothing is working for me yet.
I installed Techtool Pro the other day, so I know it's possible to install. It seems to be only my Utilities apps.
I'm also having problems with a sticky cursor, but I don't know if the problems are related.
Can anyone help me with this?

There is really no need for a Mac user to need anti-virus software. We can't get viruses. The only need is to protect PC user friends you have forwarded a virus to from another PC user. it also slows your system down. Most ISP's include virus software/checks anyway.
Concerning the utilities folder. First try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Do not procede to next step if Disk Utility can not repair the drive.
Then you can do an Archive and Install, with +Preserve Settings+ chosen to keep your stuff. This should restore your apps. Follow his advice on what to do with the previous system folder. Make sure you do that +Disk Repair+ first so no corruption is carried over to the new install.

Norton AntiVirus on MacBook?

I previously had a MacBook Pro for a few days and had installed Norton AntiVirus on it with no problems. But when I switched over to the MacBook, installing and using Norton was a nightmare (almost as bad as not being able to sync with Bluetooth). I installed and reinstalled about 20 times and receive the same error: "Norton AntiVvirus Auto Protect could not continue. Please run LiveUpdate or reinstall & restart. Code:10."
Not only that, but when I try to open Norton AntiVirus (or any part of it such as Preferences), I get this error: "Norton AntiVirus quit unexpectedly."
I don't know why it ran on my MacBook Pro with no problems but it's not on the MacBook. Anyone else have this problem?

I would also like to hear any ideas to JennC's original post. I am helping a friend with a MacBook with similar problems. LiveUpdate and Norton AntiVirus crash on launch. I've tried repairing permissions, verifying the disk, reinstalling, etc.

I agree with you, but sorry, but my friend is going to a school where they require that it be installed. Not installing it is not an option. I need to hear ideas that will make it work. I am extremely familiar with most Mac troubleshooting as I used my first Mac in 1985.
My friend has already been through some troubleshooting with the school IT but it didn't seem to help. My next step will be to clone the entire MacBook drive to a backup drive so I can reinstall OS X to see if Norton works better on a true virgin OS. But I sure would like to hear if there's a simple solution, first.

Rosetta and Norton Antivirus

I wanted to install Norton AntiVirus software on my MAC last night because I work in a mixed environment and don't want to risk getting some crap on my MAC. I plan on installing Parallels to run Windows. Anyway, when I went to install it I was informed by Symantec that I need to load something called Rosetta for their software to install. I attempted to load Rosetta from my MAC OS disc and got an error message basically stating that it could not load it because I had a newer OS version than what is on the disc. I'm running 10.6.3 and the most current is 10.6.4. So I try to download and install 10.6.4 from Apple and I have failed repeatedly to download the 900+ MB file. I'm using a hardwire connection from Roadrunner. I get to just under 800mb and it chokes. What is the best way to get around this?
Personally, I think it is absurd to expect anyone to download a file that freaking huge. There has to be a way to chunk up this download. Any ideas are welcome!

I echo what has already been said (and thanks for the plug, Richard), but to answer the specific issue of installing Rosetta, I would bet that you already have it installed, which is why you're having trouble installing it from the Mac OS X install disk. Look through your Applications folder, and do File -> Get Info on any old apps. If any of the apps you know run just fine say "Kind: Application (PowerPC)", you've already got Rosetta installed.

LOL, that's life these days. If you're on a slow connection, or one with limits on downloads, you can try a public wireless connection somewhere - like a library - instead.

Installing Webtools on a separate box

You can but it needs to have the DI API installed(installs with client typically) and a network connection to the B1 License server, as the DI API will check with it.
If you have the port open to the license server, and the details of the license server use the computers FQDN name and not just "local" or "localhost" it should be able to connect.

How do I remove Norton Antivirus?

I have a full version of Norton Antivirus. I had my suspicions last year when my MacBook acted funny and it caught a virus from 2 files that came from my PC. Well, I had OS X Tiger then and installed Norton Antivirus. Now I have Leopard and no longer want Norton Antivirus. My question is how do I remove Norton fully from my MacBook? I don't want any applications or any apps running in the background from Norton. Please help! Thanks

Norton antivirus will not run on Intel Mac

I installed Norton Antivirus that I received from school but when my computer starts it errors and says it will not run on an Intel Mac. How do I uninstall. I took the program and dragged it to trash but it still has a startup item.

Norton Antivirus Vulnerability Protection

I installed Norton Antivirus 11 with Vulnerability Protection and my Mac Mail program could not send/receive mail thereafter. I am also using PGP Desktop ver 9.7. Mail works if the Vulnerability Protection is disabled. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Norton is not a good product on the Windows side of it. I am sure they don't do any better on Mac's.
But if you must feel secure. Usually the settings for your email were not set correctly by Norton.
You may try deleting your settings and re entering them. This has worked in the past. Otherwise I am not too familiar with AV on the Mac side.
