Can i install office 2004?

Hello,
I used to have an iBook G4 and I bought office 2004 for it and it worked perfectly. Now I have a new macbook and I dont know if its convenient for me to install the old office 2004 I have because I dont see the universal symbol anywhere on the package (because I think I bought it in 2005).
Should I buy a new Office 2004?
In that case, is there a downloadable version, or do I have to run out to the store?
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thank you.

A Universal Binary version of Office is in the works but Office 2004 does run on Intel Macs thanks to Apple's Rosetta technology. You'll probably find that it will boot a little slower than on your iBook but runs at about the same speed assuming you have at least 1GB of memory.
Note: if you own Office for complete compatibility with the Windows world, you should be aware that Microsoft made the decision to drop visual basic support in the upcoming version of Mac Office. If you depend on macros for your workflow you'll not want to upgrade to the new version when it comes out. If this is an issue for you, contact Microsoft's Mac Business unit and let them know it.

  • Can I restore Office 2004 from Time machine backup

    Hi Guys,
I have managed to delete office 2004 when I was trying to install office 2008 using a friend's copy. Office 2008 will not work for me as it needs online registration.
I no longer have the office 2004 install disk. Is it possible to re-install office 2004 from my time machine backup. I can see it is available in the backup from before yesterday but not sure if I try to restore what will happen.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi PaulieHK,
Open Finder on you original view desktop.
No go to Application folder and select the Office 2004.
NOW, select the Time Machine icon in the dock and it will bring you back in history.
You can go back before you tried to install Office 2008.
Select IN Time Machine the application Office 2004 and click on PUT BACK.
Time machine will now put back the situation as it was before the installing Office 2008.
When you see your original desktop again try to open Office 2004.
    Good luck ...

  • Please Help - 2006-007 - Can't Install Office -Archive & Install?

Did the new security update; then went to upgrade from Office X to Office 2004. Everything works but Entourage - it won't even launch.
Hours with Micro s**t on the phone and they have no idea.
Should I revert back to my pre 2006-007 version with my SuperDuper clone (all data is current) to 10.8.4 from an extenal hard disk to my Mac and try installing Office 2004,
    OR
Should I do an Archive & Install, upgrade to 10.4.8, not do the 2006-007 security update, and try getting Office 2004 to load Entourage that way?
(Never had to do a reverse clone to my Mac - scared - will it work?).
    Thanks!
iMac CDRW   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'd like to give an update and ask for any additional help.
I tried to install Office 2004, after the 2006-007 Security Update by using the Setup Assistant and by drag and drop; tried that in normal mode and in a safe boot (to make sure everything was essentially shut down). I have no login items active. Word, Excel, Powerpoint all loaded perfectly on each occasion (10 attemps so far). Only Entourage will not load - although Entourage is present in the Microsft Office 2004 folder and everything appears in Home>Documents>Microsft User Data.
Then I did a SuperDuper clone back from my external to the iMac G4, went to OS 10.4.8 before the update, and tried installation both through Setup Assistant and by drag and drop - still to no avail. I did not try Safe Boot after regressing back to the pre 2006-007 state (ran out of time).
In all instances, both before and after the SuperDuper retrograde, Word, Excel, Powerpoint all loaded perfectly. Only Entourage won't launch. The Entourage icon on the dock will bounce about ten times, but launch fails. One time I actually got the black arrow to appear under the icon on the dock, but then it went away (that was after Safe Boot with the 2006-007 Security Update installed).
I tried the install on another G4 with the Security Update installed, and Entourage fussed a bit but did load and is now working properly. So, I went back to the iMac, ran Disk Utility off the install disc - all came up fine; permissions were repaired repeatedly during this process and not one time did anything need repair. I used Onyx and cleaned the cashes, obsolete items and so forth, and ran all 3 scripts. Still no launch of Entourage. I used Onyx andPreferential Treatment and all prefernces checked out perfectly.
Is there something in the system that causes apps to launch that might need fixing, and if so, why only this one app? If so, what and how would I test its integrity? (Entourage in Office X works perfectly on the afflicted iMac G4).
Any suggestsions of something I might be overlooking?
I hate the thought of an Archive and Install just to find out if it will make one silly application load from an install disc.
I can't read Console logs, but there is stuff there about Entourage failing. Would a post of those help someone help me?
    Thanks and Cheers!

  • No access to Enturage application folder after installing Office 2004

I´m not sure this this the right forum, but when I ask Microsoft Enturage people, this is a Mac Tiger security/permission problem, and when I ask Apple people this is a Microsoft Enturage problem, so I don´t know.
So,my issue: I have just reinstalled my HD, using "archive & Install". After the installation, I installed Office 2004. Everything works fine (Word, Excel etc) extept for Enturage, I cannot run the application. The message I get after klicking the icon is:
"You do not have write access to the Enturage applocation folder. To run Enturage you must have the administrative user remove the Identities folder from the application folder."
I have an admin-user. I have not changed user (only me and the admin) during installation.
The reason for reinstalling my Mac was solely because of Enturage-problems, and now, after all this effort, it will still not work! This can make a person go insane!
I am not a very technical person, and will be very greatful for all help!

Did you shut down the database before moving files?I didn't move any files, I just copied some files to the other node.
Can you connect in sqlplus?Yes that was possible. I also had a connection to the database using TOAD.
After looking for the problem together with a colleague I've found out that I had to add some more listening addresses. The problem was that my nodes node1 and node2 have the IPs 10.10.10.2 and 10.10.10.3 but the virtual server of the cluster which forms the database oracledb for the clients runs on 10.10.10.103. So there was the name for e.g. node1 in the configuration files but also the IP-address 10.10.10.103 which the system couldn't resolve. After adding all possibilities using the Net Manager and after restarting the services it worked fine. At least until now. I haven't tried everything yet... I will go on tomorrow... thx so far.

  • Installing Office 2004 - installer quiting

OK - I tried to uninstall the test drive version prior to installing Office 2004. I used the Remove utility and it did not detect any versions of Office....so I just dropped the complete folder in the trash and emptied it.
Now, trying to install, I select the Installer Assistant...it runs for about 10 seconds and then quite...disapears from the dock.
I re-ran the uninstaller from the CD and still will not work.
    Looking for a bone.
    Thanks
    jc

To elaborate...after dragging the folder, when I open an app, like Word, it bounces in the dock for about 5-seconds and then disapears. Nothing will open.

Can i install Office for Mac on my IPad ??

Sorry, no. Different operating systems. You'll need to look in the app store to find an office program.  If you already have a mac, then you may want to look for Pages, or I have a PC and use office and like Documents to go.

  • Problems installing Office 2004 on macbook

I've been trying to help a friend install Microsoft Office 2004 on her MacBook. When she enters the disc into the drive and goes to the setup assistant the assistant becomes unresponsive halfway through. When she tries to drag the MS Office 2004 file from the CD to the Applications folder, it works for a little and then stops, giving this message:
"The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in batang.ttf could not be read or written. Error code -36"
Is that an error with the CD or the actual CD drive... any help would be greatly appreciated!

You might try repairing the permissions before running the installer.
I just installed Office 2004 not long ago and I remember the installer seemed to hang a bit. I'm not sure what the error code is but the batang.ttf is a font. It's possible that the part of you install disc is damaged in that area? Might try cleaning off the disc even if it looks clean.

I recently tried to uninstall and then install Office 2004. All of my email is gone. Folders, messages, contacts. By uninstalling did I permanently delete it? Is there a back-up hiding on my computer?

since Office is not an Apple product, you may find it better to post your question over on Microsoft's own Office For Mac product forums, as they would be more focused to your issue and a solution may already have been posted:

  • I can't install Office 2011 on my retina MBP. Any ideas?

I can't install Office 2011 on my retina MBP. Any ideas?

It's a Retina MBP that has no aftermarket software on it. I'm trying to install Office 2011 from the install DVD. The message (unhelpfully), at what one hopes is the end of the install says that there has been an error and the install has failed. I have disabled the privacy setting to allow the MBP to accept installs from "anywhere" to no avail.
The disc goes in fine and the process starts but ends with a install failed message.

  • Installing Office 2004

    Hi everyone-
Figured you guys could help. i recently purchased Office 2004 and am having trouble installing on my MBP. I have removed the Test Drive that came with MBP, inserted the Office 2004 disc, double-clicked on the Office Setup Assistant. Once i did that, the app (installer?) would open in the dock for .5 seconds, and then disappear. This prompted me to open the console, and check what was going on, and this was the text I got:
    dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/CoreServices
    Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Support/LaunchCFMApp
Reason: no suitable image found. Did find:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/CoreServices: mach-o, but wrong architecture
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/CoreServices: mach-o, but wrong architecture
Any ideas? Help!! (please). And yes, I did search for anything relating to this topic on these boards as well as many others.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.83 GHz, 1.5GB RAM

    Hi ravuya-
Well here is what happens: I put in the Office disc, and 2 options pop up in the window: installer, or a folder with all programs, options etc.
So i can either go through the setup program, or just copy everything over via drag and drop from the Office disc onto my HD.
However, after doing a Get Info on both the Installer and All programs in the second option (including all the Office programs), they all lack the "Open with Rosetta" option.
I have installed PPC apps (Flip4Mac) on my MBP, so I am familiar with messing around with apps, installers, etc opening via Rosetta.
I am just dumbfounded as to why this is happening. Any ideas?
    Thank you for your response!

  • Installing Office 2004 after upgrade to Tiger

I am upgrading to Tiger from Panther and do not want to lose Office for Mac. I have the 2004 version which I have upgraded in Panther up to 11.3.8. I will have to install the standard Office 2004 for Mac from the CD. Can Tiger accept this early version so that I can upgrade by downloading improved versions?

Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Just be sure to Repair Permissions before & after any upgrade/install/updates.
The usual reason why updates/installs/upgrades fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.

  • Trouble installing Office: 2004 for Mac

Hello. I hope someone can help me. So here's the deal.
I've been using Office X for some time. I bought Office 2004 for Mac (Student Teacher Edition) from a friend who upgraded last May. I got the manual and the Product ID with it. I never got around to Installing it, but my hard drive failed recently and Apple replaced it, obviously without any of my stuff on it.
So I decided if I have to reinstall all my software, I'd go ahead and use the Office 2004 as I don't think the Office X is fully compatible with Tiger (because of it's age and a few issues I've had with it over the past two years). Now, here's the problem. When I tried to install it, the product ID didn't work as the Product/CD Key. I called my friend and she no longer has the box or the Product Key, and of course, the Product key from my Office X doesn't work.
So now I'm stuck. Is anyone familiar with Office 2004 for Mac? Is there any difference between the "retail" version and the Student/teacher version that would prevent the Product Key from one with working with the other? Would anyone be willing to share their Product key with me, to install the software so I can get back to work?
I've already lost 4 days in time (and have to recreate 2 days worth of work that was done after my last file backup) and don't have time to deal with this stuff.
I may be contacted directly at robertben1 at comcast dot net.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions/help.

    Sorry, that would be illegal.

  • Installing Office 2004 on a network

    Hi,
I have two computers connected through a cable router. I have Office 2004 installed on my computer and I had thought I had installed the same program on my son's G4. I never had a problem using Word while he was also using it on his computer. He recently got a G5 and I installed again the Office 2004 on his computer. Now when I attempt to load my Office 2004 program, specifically Word, while he is also using it on his computer, I get a message that two computers on the same network are not allowed to use Office 2004, i.e. that only one computer at a time can use the program. Is there a way around this? Should I just unplug my ethernet cable when I want to use the program at the same time he is using his?
    Thank you.

    Hello Sae,
    Welcome to the Apple Forums!
Sounds like it may be a licencing issue. Microsoft does update various components of Office for Mac, so there may have been an update that's affected the way Office determines whether it's properly licenced.
Have you confirmed that you are "licenced" to run it on more than one machine? Have you seen mention in the licencing agreement anything to do with the number of allowed installations?
Reason for asking is that maybe it is only licenced for one machine. In that case, you can't "get around it" without violating terms of the licencing agreement (legally a bad thing).
At any rate, let me know what you find!
    Regards,
    Motosuwa
