Can I install Original Mac OS X Snow Leopard  on my PC/laptop?

Same as my topic~

You can provided it meets certain criteria and you have the skills to run all sorts of black source software to do it.
Apple will not hold your hand and neither will we,  although I likely would if I could,  you'll just have to ask your question elsewhere sorry.
I can't tell you where, but if you look hard enough I'm sure you'll find what you looking for.
It's not easy to install and it's very risky.
It would be much MUCH easier to install a Linux clone that LOOKS LIKE OS X than it would be to install OS X on a PC laptop, even installing Linux isn't for the weak.

But of course you don't have as much software choice as OS X and Windows, with Linux, but it's nearly all free and decent for the basics.

(tip: go the 10.10 upgrade to 11.04 route)
You can find out more about installing Linux at the Ubuntu forums (MacBuntu is just a desktop theme, like a shell)

As Niel states you can use your current iWorks.
If you want the latest version you will need to purchase the componets in the Mac App Store.

  • What are the minimum hardware requirements to install both MAC OS X Snow Leopard and Windows on a Mac

    Hi,
I want to install both MAC OS X Snow Leopard and WINDOWS on a same PC. Is it possible..then mention the minimum Hardware support to install both Operating Systems on a PC. I am waiting for relevant reply from Apple Support Team.
                                            Thank You.

I am waiting for relevant reply from Apple Support Team.
Then you'll be waiting a long time. This is a user to user support site hosted by Apple. The Apple Support Team doesn't respond to posts here.
For Snow Leopard, you need an Apple computer with an Intel processor of any flavor. Here are the specs from the Apple Store:
    System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
You'd have to contact Microsoft to find out what specs its OS requires, but I imagine the above would cover it.
Also note that Snow Leopard is only licensed to run on Apple branded equipment.

Alright, I've been using Mac Os, the very very first Mac OS . I've been wondering if I can still update up to OS X Snow Leopard. I seriously hope I can.

Click on a bare patch of desktop to make Finder active, then go to the Apple menu. "About This Mac" or "About This Computer" should be the first item in the list. What is the full OS version number given?

  • Help with CF9 Standard Install and Mac OS Server (Snow Leopard Server)

    Hello,
I recently purchased a mac mini server (with snow leopard server) and will be using it to host my CF9 applications.  This install is WAY different than the install needed on a windows machine.  I tried to install it once and somehow hosed up Apache and now I can't even get it to start up (apache).  So I am having the colo company to do a full restore of the server and I took notes on the Mac Server install and below is the questions I have.
1.) Since Snow Leopard Server comes with Apache webserver, it is what CF wants to use.  This is fine, I just need to know where these things are...
It is asking for the Configuration Directory:  I'm guessing it is /private/etc/apache2 ? Right or Wrong???
2.) It is asking for Directory and file name of server binary:  It currently defaults to /usr/sbin/httpd  is this right or should I point it to another directory?
3.) It is asking for Directory and file name of server script: It currently defaults to /usr/sbin/apachectl  is this right or should I point it to another directory?
It also wants the location where I can place the CFIDE.  Can I place this anywhere I wish or is there a preferred location to point this to?
and finally, I have CF9 Standard, so on the mac server should I install it as a server configuration (self contained instance) or Enterprise Multiserver config.  I was reading online that its better to install as an Enterprise Multiserver setup, but I don't know if this will work for me since I'm useing the standard edition.
Please Help ANYONE, if you have mac os experience and installing CF9 onto a mac server
    Thanks

I have been getting this exact same problem.  CF installer is somehow writing some invalid information into the httpd.conf file.  I was able to replace the httpd.conf file with the default one, and was able to go through the webconnector process again and (sometimes randomly) it works.  I also spent about 4 hours on the line with adobe CF support and made no progress beyond what I'll post here .
To answer your questions about file locations:
    /private/etc/apache2/ for the httpd.conf files
/usr/sbin/ for both the apachectl and the httpd binaries
Although I'm able to get past where you are, and it seems to work correctly, Immediately upon adding a new site via server admin it all breaks.  Coldfusion then will only work if I manually go to a cfm document.  For example:  http://example.com/ will give me the raw text from the (default index) index.cfm file.  But typing http://example.com/index.cfm works.
I am lost here as well.  After 4 hours on the phone with adobe support I would have hoped it would be an easy fix.  I've completely nuked and reinstalled the server from scratch with the exact same results both times.
Does anyone have the slightest clue about what may be going on here?

  • NetInstall image not installing on Mac Pros from Snow Leopard server

Using the System Image Utility, I created a NetRestore image from the Mac Pro machine that was configured in the way that we wanted it (applications, etc.). I copied this image to the server (Server HD 3), and configured in Library/Netboot/NetBootSP0. The image is in Base Image.nbi, and I have NetBoot set up in serveradmin. I have this set up in the images tab in NetBoot:
    Default is checked;
    Image Name: Base Image;
    Enable is checked;
Diskless is not (we're wanting to 'restore' this image on all 17 MacPros)
    Index is 2323;
    Arch is Intel;
    Protocol is NFS.
    Comment box info:
    Storage Volume: Server HD 3
Kind: Mac OS X NetInstall (Intel)
    Language: default
Description: NetRestore of Mac OS X 10.6.2 (10C2234) Volume.
    Type: NFS.
When I go to one of the other computers, go through system preferences and select the "Base Image" to restart from, I get a gray screen; then the globe flashes, and then the machine will go to the local hard drive to start up.
The reason I went to a NetRestore image was because the system image utility would not create a netinstall (greyed out) from a volume.
Is there something I am missing here?

So glad its you Mr. Hoffman - your guides are most helpful - thank you so much for what you do.
I did some digging and found out that since im running CS4 and that it trys to run on 64 bit mode but my Lion system and most folks systems I guess are in 32 bit mode - i had to down load some 32 bit Adobe Unit Types from Adobe and replace the ones on my system - restart - and bingo - im no longer getting those errors - see this link where i found this work around:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/516/cpsid_51615.html
That fix cleared a lot of the junk that adobe was doing but i am still getting error 1101 - see below
11/26/11 2:36:37.298 PM opendirectoryd: peer appears to be running Mac OS X 10.6 or earlier
    11/26/11 2:36:37.298 PM opendirectoryd: got error 1101
Any idea what this is ?

  • Do I need Internet Connection to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard?

    Hi,
I am going to install new mac os x snow leopard, but I don't have any internet connection at the moment and waiting for broadband service providers to provide me broadband.
I am just wondering that if I need internet connection to install this os or not?? should I wait for broadband connection or not??
    any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

*Some features require a compatible Internet service provider*
...which just means that you can't use Mail, for example, unless you've got internet service and an e-mail account. This has nothing to do with the installer.
Wait until you have a broadband internet connection. One of the setup guides needs to connect in order to set your time zone.
...which is not strictly necessary, since you can easily set it manually.
A more important issue is that, without an internet connection, the installer won't be able to check Apple's servers for an updated list of incompatible software. This is not strictly necessary, but it's a good idea.

  • How can I install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Mac OS X Tiger?

Hello. Can someone tell me how I can install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Mac OS X Tiger? I have the disk, but when I open the installer, I get a message saying that Snow Leopard could not be installed on my computer and it could only be installed on a Intel-Based Mac. This is a PowerPC Mac, so that makes sense.
So, I'm trying to ask how to make my Mac an Intel-Based Mac so I could install Snow Leopard. Or if I can't do that, I need to know how to install Snow Leopard some other way. Please help.

Just an FYI, the Mac App Store was introduced with Mac OS X 10.6.6.    However the rest of what you say is accurate.
10.6.8 is required if you want to upgrade certain Macs beyond 10.7.5 without having to reformat the drive you are installing the operating system on and without having to install some version of 10.7 first.
One can actually install 10.7 or later if you maintain an original copy of the full installer of the operating system in question for your personal use without having to have the prerequisite operating system installed, if the hardware supported it.  But that's a discussion for another forum.
    For HFTaylor,
Consider buying a used or refurbished Mac with an Intel CPU depending on your needs.  Read this tip about the migration of data from PowerPC to Intel before proceeding:

Where did you obtain the Snow Leopard DVD? If it is aDVD from another computer, it will not work. You will need the retail version of the DVD as shown below.

  • I cannot install mac os x snow leopard as i dont have the previous installation disk os x 10.5.8 and I cant remember the password for the mac. How can I install snow leopard.

Hi I have just received Mac OS X Snow leopard but when I tried to install it i couldn't as I have forgotten the password for the mac and I can't find the disk for OS X 10.5.8 its running on. Is there any way to install the new software without both of these?

you can reset your password. restart, and hold down Command-s before the apple logo appears (when the screen is white). you will see scrolling scripts until you see something like "root:" then type /sbin/mount -uw / to mount the disk. after that, type sudo passwd admin or whatever your admin password is. type in the new password two times. it doesn't show what you typed when you type the password so make sure you are pressing the right keys. after you done that, type exit to start up the computer. now you will be able to login with the new password.

  • How can i install mac os x snow leopard on Lion?

You cannot. Either you erase the drive on which you installed Lion then reinstall Snow Leopard or you create another partition on the drive and install Snow Leopard on that partition so you can dual boot.
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

A PowerPC G4 or G5 can't be upgraded past 10.5.8. If you're trying to install an application and not a newer Mac OS X version, check its system requirements and use the original disk or download.
